This is a very different character than Brooklyn 99. Yeah. I didn't think I was going to get Brooklyn. So I went in with sort of a, well, this is never going to happen. So I guess we'll have fun.
Here with the stunning Melissa Fumero. Good to see you.
Good to see you.
You are I I'm just going to say, you are so gorgeous and but cute too.
Thanks.
I know I'm just completely put you on the spot, but never going to leave. You just stay, just stay. Be our pillow. Um, no, you're you're like I have a girl crush.
Aw.
I really do.
Thanks.
No, you're just
That just made my day.
But do you get did you ever get this, like you're the girl that guys want to marry. I I'm putting you on the spot now, totally.
A little bit. I will say I I get a surprising amount of marriage proposals on Twitter.
You do?
Yeah. And like, I want to bring you home to meet my mom.
You get the nice boy.
I get the nice boys. Twitter.
No, but you are and you're so talented and you're a dancer too.
I yes, I I was. Was. Feel like I can't say that I am anymore because I haven't been to class in a few years. But yeah, yeah, yeah. I grew up dancing and like that was a huge part of my life for a long time.
So the house that Jack built. Yes. Out, you can watch it on video on demand in theaters.
Yes. So the house that Jack built is a family drama, like we said, about this guy that moves his whole family into one apartment building, thinking it's going to be wonderful. Cause it's not. And um it's an amazing cast with great performances. And yeah, if anyone watches Brooklyn and wants to I guess see me in a totally different light. It's a totally different light.
So you shot this before before Brooklyn.
Okay. Brooklyn, yeah. Hadn't even happened yet. Um, I had been in LA for probably like six months and went back to New York to shoot the film. We shot it in 18 grueling days.
It is insane to me because I watch this film and you guys have the entire cast brought it, like brought it. And it was so like the family because it's this family that moves into the same apartment building. It's just like they have these fights. And I grew up in a household that was very like we all got along. Yeah. So it was so satisfying to watch these people like duke it out and really like go for it. And but you really believed that these people had that sort of history in that relationship.
I love this cast so much. I'm still friends with all of them and that was probably the most amazing thing about doing the film was it was this grueling schedule. It was a low budget indie and everybody brought their A game. Everybody came super prepared. Everyone came super focused. Um, and everyone just like went for it like every take and it was just like it was such an amazing experience. I mean, there were definitely days where I was like, I think I'm losing my mind. just cuz like lack of sleep and just like and we do these heavy scenes and um
Oh, really heavy. But like fast, like you're just like you're not blinking watching these scenes between these.
Yeah, yeah. There's a lot going on. There's a lot going on for sure.
This is a very different character than Brooklyn 99. Yeah. Like and and it just it's nice for you. Is it nice to watch it and sort of cuz sometimes a person will do one type of thing, but it's just such a, you know, vastly different sort of genre and
Yeah. Yeah, it's nice for me to watch now cuz I've been like living with Amy for three years and so immersed in that Brooklyn 99 world. But before Brooklyn, you know, that's kind of I would sort of bounce back between like I'd do a drama job and then I'd go do a comedy job and kind of um would bounce around that way and loved it and like I hope that continues. I didn't think I was going to get Brooklyn. So I went in with sort of a, well, this is never going to happen. So I guess we'll have fun. I had a really great audition. Um I had for me, I walked out feeling like it was the best audition I'd ever had. And I was like.
Was Andy that wasn't the first was he at the obviously. He wasn't at the first couple, but he was at the screen test.
And um and yeah, it was just, you know, sort of that that back and forth was there right away. He was super wonderful.
I hope you don't mind retelling a story.
Sure.
The Ben Affleck story from the Globes. So you guys had just won.
We just won. We went, um, you know, they like shuffle you backstage. It was your first season, right? Yeah. Oh my gosh. It was crazy. Like only half of the season had aired. We were all shocked by the nomination. I think I remember your face. I think I remember that from the audience. I'm pretty sure I like maybe dropped an F bomb on camera. Like without even realizing it because we all just jumped up and started screaming. When my like emotions get too high or too low, it's like it's crying. There's nothing we can do about it. There's self-control goes out the window. So I was so elated that I just like as soon as we came off the stage, it just all came out. And I'm trying to like suck it all back, like the snot and the tears. Like that's the situation we're dealing with. And I just feel hands on my shoulders and I look up and I'm literally just like staring. Oh, but right before that was Alfonso Cuarón like passed me and he was like, congratulations. And I was like.
And now he had he just won for best director.
He had just won for best director. Okay. For Gravity. And I was like, oh my god. Like trying to like even comprehend what that was. And then yeah, I feel these hands on my shoulders and I look up and I'm just like staring into Ben Affleck's face like you do backstage an award show. It was very gentle.
Was it?
Yeah. And he was like, are you all right? Congratulations. And I was like, Uh, I just cried in his face. In his face. I don't think I even said my name. I don't remember. And then I think while that was happening, Aaron Paul was in the back and he was like, are you okay? And I was like, oh my gosh, stop.
Such nice guys, like, who knew that, you know, Ben and Aaron. Everybody was really. Do you have a dream guest star on for the show?
Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Bill Murray. I mean, if any of those people came on, I don't even think I would want to be in a scene with them. I would just want to like me watch watch.
But then later you'd be you'd be like, wait a second. Can we do this again?
I think I actually I think I actually I do want to. I want to be in. Yeah.
Thank you so much for coming in.
Thank you for having me. This is a lot of fun.
This was super fun. We're going to cut and she's going to show me some clap moves cuz I don't have any.
Yeah.
