Spears and Gaga tease with a same-sex kiss at the MTV VMAs

Britney Spears had the audience at Sunday's (28Aug11) MTV Video Music Awards in hysterics as she puckered up for a kiss with Lady Gaga.

The Poker Face hitmaker took to the stage as male alter-ego Jo Calderone to present a tribute to Spears and then hand her pop peer the night's Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

And the two femme fatales almost turned the moment into another Spears same-sex smooch stunner as they came within inches of locking lips before the Toxic singer broke away and joked, "No, I've done that already."

Spears famously kissed Madonna during a show-stopping routine at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

Accepting her Video Vanguard prize, Spears told fans that it was extra special - because she received it on the eve of what would have been Michael Jackson's birthday, admitting, "He had such a huge influence on me."

She then turned her acceptance speech into a tribute to pregnant Beyonce, who followed her onstage with a stunning performance.

Spears said, "Beyonce and I started out around the same time and, just like all of her fans, I fell in love with her... She can do it all. She's a triple threat and one of the most talented people I have ever seen."

Gaga, as Calderone, called Beyonce "a beautiful soul."
