Hi, I'm Steven Yun from AMC's The Walking Dead.

Steven Yeun

I am here with Stephen Yeun. Hi.

Young Hollywood

You're looking very dapper. I feel very under-dressed.

Steven Yeun

Hi. No, that's my. I'm sorry.

Young Hollywood

No, don't apologize. I should apologize. I'm the under-dressed one. Do you do you like to sort of dress up a little bit? Because on the show you're not, you know, The Walking Dead. You're not exactly, you know, primped all the time.

Steven Yeun

Yeah. It's not that's true. Uh yeah, I love it. I mean, um, you know, Andy is a dapper man. I just kind of take cues from him sometimes.

Young Hollywood

So I just want to throw a number at you. 10. 9 woo million viewers which made your show The Walking Dead the most successful cable show of all time. I'm not here to make you nervous but is that a lot of pressure for you guys?

Steven Yeun

Uh yeah, that's that's incredible. I mean, we're very very fortunate and blessed to have that, but man, how why so in-houses watching our show? That's so many people. It's so many people. Going into this season, you know, we all we all felt a collective uh kind of need to really just pump up the stakes and and really uh uh go hard and I don't know if you can hear it in my voice, but we're we're we're doing it. A lot of a lot of screaming. A lot of screaming, a lot of a lot of running, a lot of jumping, a lot of crazy stuff.

Young Hollywood

I've read that you said it's hard to sort of leave your hat at the door sometimes because it is so intense, physically draining, emotionally draining. And we have like weird hours like they'll call us in uh at 4:00 in the morning, 5:00 in the morning to do just to get the daybreak cuz we're trying to jam pack something that maybe should be shot in whole days. Does the exhaustion help?

Steven Yeun

It does. I mean, looking like crap uh helps us very much on our show. Uh and we definitely look like crap.

Young Hollywood

Are you sort of living like a sort of different life than you did prior to the show?

Steven Yeun

You know, what happens is uh a lot of us keep count we're counting tallies of like how many sleepless nights we've had. Everyone looks about 20 years older than when we started the season.

Young Hollywood

Tell me about the the death dinners that you guys have because there are so many casualties on the show. Um the cast gets together and they you have like these dinners for people when they're sort of sent off into the abyss.

Steven Yeun

Yeah, it's it's always rough. It's it's not fun. Um but it's it's a time for us to celebrate what that person has, you know, done and uh all that they've given to our show.

Young Hollywood

When you started this, I know that you didn't you hadn't done that many acting. Hadn't you only been in LA six months or something when you booked this show?

Steven Yeun

You should keep that quiet. Uh you know, uh uh I'd done a lot of theater in Chicago.

Young Hollywood

Didn't you do a lot of comedy? Weren't you doing

Steven Yeun

Yeah, I was I was doing Second City in Chicago and uh I got to tour for a little bit and um that was a blast and then I just had this gut feeling that I was supposed to move out and my gut was right. And sometimes it's really wrong, but that time it was really right.

Young Hollywood

So what can you tease us about the season? What what do we have to expect coming up?

Steven Yeun

Um if you've seen the first episode, uh basically expect that type of energy um mixed with a lot of really potent human drama. It's just gonna be 100 miles per hour.

Young Hollywood

It never lets up, does it?

Steven Yeun

No.

Young Hollywood

The show is also known for the special effects. It's been nominated. There was like the leg cutting off, there's like Does anything Does that ever freak you out? Does that stuff freak you out?

Steven Yeun

It doesn't. It just amazes us. Uh that scene when Andy was chopping the leg. Everybody was like, "All right, you guys, we need to make time for tomorrow. You need to come in at like 5:00 a. m. So everybody go home and get ready." We're like, "Hell, no. I'm watching this." We wanna watch this door. Yeah, so we all sat there and watched this and they had to put like a splatter shield up.

Young Hollywood

Oh, wow.

Steven Yeun

Yeah, and just he was just hacking at the thing. You can't be soft as an actor, you gotta be tough. You gotta go for it. You gotta go for it.

Young Hollywood

Well, speaking of going for it, we were at Comic-Con this year. And they had The Walking Dead Escape. I don't know if you heard about it.

Steven Yeun

Yes, yes.

Young Hollywood

I in my Green Lantern costume took part in The Walking Dead Escape and I didn't do so well against the zombies and I have a little clip for you. I can't. Cuz I want some tips about how to better face zombies in front of me.

Steven Yeun

I can't wait for you to be so disappointed at my tips.

Young Hollywood

Get away from me! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh, I got touched. I got touched. Oh, we made it last. That is amazing. Thank you. Um

Steven Yeun

Actually, you're doing it right. This is a good defense.

Young Hollywood

This is good, right? Damsel in distress. They didn't take any on me, though.

Steven Yeun

Well, I mean, like you're If they grab you, you're already shaking, so you're hard to grab. You know what I mean?

Young Hollywood

Okay. Yeah, this is good. So my instincts were good. High-pitched screaming, sally I understand why you come in hoarse.

Steven Yeun

Yes.

Young Hollywood

I'm hoarse after that day. Really hot. Ah!

Steven Yeun

Like that's really good. Yeah, yeah, that's good. And then, you know, to nimbly, that's all good. The nimble work. Yeah, and I'm sure that suit helped because you're very slippery.

Young Hollywood

What can I do to improve?

Steven Yeun

I don't know. You did it pretty good. To be quite honest with you. Have you done that Universal one? The Universal.

Young Hollywood

Oh, have you?

Steven Yeun

After seeing that, don't don't do it. Those guys were like casual like, "Hey, let me touch you maybe." These guys will like grab you and put you in a burlap sack. We did it for our premiere. Okay. And my mom was in front and she was my shield. And so, I don't know. I can't help you at all. I'm so sorry.

Young Hollywood

Well, it's funny that you bring up your mom because we have a TwiPik. One of your Twitter pictures of your dad and a certain individual again, it's over your shoulder. How awesome is that? With the guy from Gangam Gangnam Style.

Steven Yeun

Gangnam Style.

Young Hollywood

Gangnam Style, yeah. Gangnam. No, not Gangnam style.

Steven Yeun

Gangnam Style, yeah. My dad, uh this is in Koreatown in LA. Okay. My dad was here for the weekend with my aunt and uncle and he was kind of doing like a whole press tour, I think, cuz he was doing like some sort of commercial here and uh just killing it on the street.

Young Hollywood

Killing it on the street?

Steven Yeun

Killing it on the street.

Young Hollywood

Well, you are quite nimble. You were demonstrating your nimbleness before and I'm quite nimble. So I would love to challenge you to a little dance seated dance-off. A dance. I got a couple of moves from the video. Oh my god. I don't even know how this goes. This is this. This is like side saddle. This is like This is bear back. They do a lot of this. Well, that works well with the zombie walk. I think you did a lot better than I. Oh, no, that was really good. Well, because we're all fun and games here, we have even more for you. We have a game for you that we played with your co-stars Norman Reedus and Sarah Wayne Callies when they came in here. So a zombie game, basically. Some of it, there's no right or wrong answer and some of it there's an actual correct answer. So what we're going to test your your your knowledge, okay? What would be your weapon of choice during a zombie attack?

Steven Yeun

Uh axe.

Young Hollywood

Why?

Steven Yeun

Because um it's silent and it's cool.

Young Hollywood

Got it. Yeah. Good choice. Yeah. Most effective way of killing a zombie. Again, personal personal opinion cuz you've done so much of it.

Steven Yeun

Uh well, if you have like a jagged steel pipe, you could stick it into the face.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, you've done that a few times, haven't you? You're getting quite good at it.

Steven Yeun

That works. It works really well.

Young Hollywood

The show is based on a comic book as you know, how many characters are from the original comic book? 1 2 3 4.

Steven Yeun

Uh, 11.

Young Hollywood

10. Yes.

Steven Yeun

Oh, yeah. That's correct. Oh, yeah. That's true.

Young Hollywood

Okay, and this is the second AMC show to feature what kind of car? You tweeted it.

Steven Yeun

Ah! Oh, the I tweeted it. Yeah. What they are? One big Okay. All the Wednesdays. All the Wednesdays. Yeah. RV. Oh, Breaking Bad, Breaking Bad. Yes. Oh my god, it just came to me. It just came to me. That was weird.

Young Hollywood

What is the logo seen on the T-shirt of Rick's son, Carl?

Steven Yeun

The Science Dog. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Young Hollywood

Nice job.

Steven Yeun

Thank you. Everyone correct. I got all of them right. That was fantastic.

Young Hollywood

Great. I'm quite proud of you.

Steven Yeun

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

And you're quite you're just quite pleasant because you just have such a rough time on the show, don't you?

Steven Yeun

Yeah, I'm I'm actually just battered. You're you're seeing a battered version of me.

Young Hollywood

Thank you so much for coming in. That was great fun.

Steven Yeun

Thank you. This was fun. Should we go out to in the See yeah. What what do we Yeah.
