And here we are with Jerry O'Connell.
So you've done a lot of fun roles, everybody from Stand By Me to Jerry Maguire, but The Defenders, the character.
We we just got to talk about the character for a second.
Fast cars, hot chicks, and nice clothes.
Women want you to open doors, pay for dinner, and take charge now.
That is so sexist.
Alpha's are back, baby.
It's You wrote the script.
I'm convinced.
Uh well, anytime you can do a show in Las Vegas, you should definitely try and do that, just because you get to go to Vegas every few months and um it's pretty much as crazy as it gets.
Uh you don't sleep.
What little sleep you you do get is usually at work like in between like setups, you're just like nodding off.
Have you seriously fallen asleep in the in the middle of a setup?
I I I haven't fallen asleep in the middle of a scene, but like they're setting up the shots and everything, and I'll just go to my chair and just In in Vegas, you just have to.
I uh But it's it's sort of the fun of doing a show out there is you know, that the characters that that I play and that Mr. Belushi plays are uh are guys who tend to enjoy Vegas.
And they work hard and they play hard.
I like how you're calling Mr. Belushi.
Are you doing that on set too?
I I do that all the time.
What did he say?
You know what?
As a joke, I called him Mr. Belushi and he went, "I like that."
Really?
And so now I only refer to him as Mr. Belushi.
He's a great guy.
I really like him.
What does he refer to you as?
Uh, hey kid.
Yeah, the kid.
Um No, he's he's great.
He has all that second city Saturday Night Live training, so he um It's just always coming up with new stuff on set.
So, let's talk about the playing hard.
Where are you playing hard?
Vegas for me used to be, you know, you go there with 20 guys, you all stay in one small hotel room, Right. you get drunk, you go out, you lose all your money, and then you figure out a way to get back home.
You know, I now go with my wife.
There's a lot of shopping there in Vegas.
And um My credit card broke.
It just stopped.
It just ended.
And what did she buy that just put it over the limit?
Uh it was shoes.
Of course, it's always shoes.
Why is that?
Shoes.
I I I there're just really they're they're expensive.
Retail shoes are expensive.
And does she come and say, "Sorry, honey, it went over." Or you knew?
Or how how did it happen?
It was quite embarrassing.
We were there at the store and it was, "I'm sorry, this isn't working."
Oh.
And there was actually a part of me that was a little bit excited because it's cuz it ended ended the bleeding.
So, what haven't you done that you want to do?
What haven't I done?
Um, you know what?
I really want to go back to school when this is all said and done.
Law school?
Or right Yeah.
I did one I did my first year of law school, which they say is the most difficult and uh and they're right.
And the reason was why?
Um, you know what?
I was taking some time off.
I have a couple kids, and uh my wife was working, and um I couldn't really work on a set, so I went to school part time and um I should let you know I was I was not at the top of my class, like that should be known right now.
How far at the bottom were you?
I wasn't at the bottom.
Good.
But I was not at the top.
That's all that matters.
You weren't at the bottom.
Yeah.
But now, did you have in mind, "Okay, I'm going to go to law school and then I'm going to try to play a lawyer in the next role I take on?"
No, you know, I really wasn't thinking that.
I just knew I'd go to grad school at some point and um I wanted to go to law school.
I went to a school here in LA called Southwestern, it's right down on Wilshire.
It's an accredited school.
I mean, I did an interview and they were like, "What Southwestern?
What kind of law school is that?"
It's a It's a legit law school.
It is.
And think of the irony, though, now you're you're playing a lawyer on TV.
That's kind of funny.
I know.
I know.
And it's funny um we were doing a scene where someone It's The character I play and the character Mr. Belushi plays are are based on real-life lawyers.
And there's a case that they had where a woman whose husband mysteriously died, or whose boyfriend mysteriously died, she removed millions of dollars in silver blocks from his house.
And that is uh this is this is going to be like boring legal stuff, but that's a that's a burglary.
That's a theft.
That's not a robbery.
And in the script it said that he that she robbed him.
And I had to go up to the producers and go, "Actually, a robbery is when force is involved and there was no force involved in this, so it's grand larceny."
And then I was like, "Man, I can't believe what a legal nerd I am."
That's just amazing how that that happened.
But Vegas is fun, you know.
And it's fun doing a law show there.
Makes it fun.
Hey, Vegas, it's a tough town legally.
If you get in trouble there, I was you know, Paris Hilton getting in trouble there, should have given us a call.
You can give legal advice.
I could give her legal advice.
I could help her out.
That'd be like a good little niche you could do, like, for other celebrities as like the celebrity lawyer.
Nobody's ever done that.
That would be really fun.
We could brand you as that.
Well, I think Harvey Levin sort of has that has that market cornered.
You're going to give him competition.
No, I can't because he's too muscular.
He works out too much and he works out tight tees.
He just looks looks too good.
