Hi. I'm Sarah Paulson from American Horror Story Asylum.
Stay tuned to find out what scares her. We're going to give scenarios and we're going to say what is scarier. And we want
Okay, I like this. This is sort of like a who'd you rather.
Exactly. Exactly. Okay, what is scarier? Hitting a red carpet only to find out after the fact that your dress photographs see-through or hitting that same red carpet and realizing after the fact you have spinach in your teeth.
Can I ask a question about the question?
Sure.
Am I cover Do am I having a thong on or like a nipple cover or am I just naked? Because that'll change it.
Let's say Let's say there's like appropriate like Let's say appropriate.
Appropriate, but maybe a little nipply. Um, I think spinach in the teeth. But I've got like a big hand on the hip and a big smile and a spinach. That's bad. Um, I say I say maybe spinach in the teeth cuz like I what I There's something like Is there something coming up on the show where they involves my boob? And that was you know, revealing your boob is like a I've done it on television. I've been naked butt naked on stage before. So I feel like on the carpet like a spinach in your teeth is with a big like grin of like, "I'm so excited to be here" really not sexy.
Okay. Which is scarier? Being locked in a room with a vampire, a werewolf, a zombie, or Sister Jude, which is Jessica Lange's character.
Well, Sister Jude just makes me laugh cuz Jessica is my friend. So I'm just like, when she gets really serious, I'm like, "Hhm." Like it makes me laugh and I've blown a couple takes just being like, "You're being really mean." And she makes me giggle. She doesn't scare me as much. Um, I don't I'm not a fan of the zombie because that's a person who was dead and is now like walking around with bits falling off. I don't like that. Right. That's not for me. The vampire thing I'm like Robert Pattinson's a vampire. You're not you're not scaring me. It's no longer like Dracula. And frankly, it would be okay if he if he bit me. If he bit me, I'd be like, "Robert Pattinson, you can bite me, little to the left." You know what I mean? As opposed to like
Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. Yeah, faster. Okay. What is scarier? Forgetting your lines on stage or filming a sex scene?
Forgetting your lines on stage is the most terrifying thing.
Is it really?
Period. End of story. Getting I mean sex scenes like it's like bring it on. Yeah, it's also like I haven't made out with anyone in a while. This will be fun. I mean, that's how I feel at this point. I'm like it's been it's been a dry spell, so let's be touch it.
Tell Ryan Murphy.
Yeah, Ryan Murphy tell make someone touch it.
Okay. Just so you know, we are all huge American Horror Story fans in here. Yes. It's pretty scary. Are you scared? I watched I got caught up last night.
To what? I mean, someone else told me they were caught up and they'd watched the first two. Are you up to four? Are you ready for episode five?
Well, then you're not caught up.
I'm not up to four. I'm not caught up. But I have to tell you, I I have fear. I don't understand. I have friends who watch it like they watch they watch like 20 minutes and then they turn it off and they're like, "I need to go like eat my dinner." And then they come back for another 20 minutes. Yeah. Which to me means we're doing something right.
You work with Ryan Murphy before.
I have.
Which is fantastic that he keeps bringing you back. To me, being in the Ryan Murphy business is like the greatest business to be in just because he does a lot of stuff.
Yeah. If he likes you, he's very loyal. Yeah. Which you can't is something that cannot be said for a lot of people in this business or in this town. I mean he's incredibly loyal and Yeah. And uh he delivers what he what he says he's going to.
Well, he's such a behind-the-scenes guy. But doing shows like having Glee and then having The New Normal, which I love, makes me laugh. Love that show. And and American Horror Story. Can you break down a psyche a little bit for us? Like what is he How does he come up with such different genres?
To me, it's a perfect example of the inside of his brain. Glee, The New Normal, American Horror. It's actually all in there at any given moment. I feel like that's just He's like jazz hands. And then he's like, "I'm a gay dad." And then he's like, "Boo!" You know. And it's all
That was a fabulous Ryan Murphy impression.
Hello, ladies. I want to be him sometimes cuz he's just so He's not easily, you know, he doesn't get riled up. He's got so many uh people that are looking to him for Yeah. guidance and what what to do, you know, he's running all of these shows. I don't know how he has a husband. He's You know what I mean? He's like got a life outside of all It's just it's a lot. And I've heard he does this with actors a lot where he'll sort of ask you a lot of questions about yourself and then it might creep into the script. You know he was You do know that he was a journalist. Like when he started, he was the he was uh a journalist. And so he did a lot of interviews. And I sort of think there's like a leftover thing. His way of having conversation sometimes is to like pepper you with questions and, you know.
And then do you find yourself revealing everything? Like is it like being on like
Yes. It's like being with your best friend.
Okay.
Especially if you've had a glass of wine because then you're just like, "Well then." He's like, "A-ha." And then what? It's just like amazing.
But then I heard some of it sort of some of it can end up in a script.
I can imagine that's not happened to me yet. Maybe not in American Horror Story. I mean, I can imagine cuz well, one time, and, you know, in my life if I told some traumatic story and it ended up I mean, I wouldn't be standing if the things that happened to Lana Winters happened to me.
Well, let's talk about that for a little bit. Because I know I've read that you've said, once you get to like episode nine or 10, the first five seem like a bowl of ice cream.
The first the five seemed like a bowl of ice cream. It does get increasingly dire for her.
Well, the one thing that wasn't horrible was wasn't it there a scene where Evan Peters' butt was on full display.
That was probably one of the greatest days of my life simply because it was so funny. It was both Evan Evan Peters, who is one of the I think one of the great-looking young boy men who's coming on the scene cuz he's 25 years old.
Oh, he's been in here and he's adorable. As the kids say.
Adorable. I'm having a lot of feels and things like that. These are things I'm learning, which I didn't understand about Tumblr. Like I'm like an idiot. Like a social Do you do all this stuff? Do you do
Well, I'm twittering.
I'm twittering now. I used to do it a long time ago. I found people to be very mean. They'd be like, "You have a lisp and your forehead's real big." And I'm like, "Ugh." All the fan girls were like tweeting me saying, "Damn you, Lana Winters. Free Tate." I'm like, "First of all, his name is Kit Walker." Okay? I'm an actress. I didn't actually stop Tate from escaping the institution at the TV show. That's A. B, Lana thinks he's bloody face. She doesn't want to let him out.
Exactly.
She thinks she's doing something very noble. People got really mad at me only because they love Evan Peters. Having seen his nutsack, I can tell you I can tell you that you want to be in love with Evan Peters cuz it's it's pretty sexy. Yeah. And not
Not many can say that they've seen it.
Not many people can say they've seen it who haven't really like seen it. So So So I will tell you that I've seen it without seeing it. If you know what I mean. It was you and Jessica Lange. Jessica Lange and I were standing there and we were doing our off-camera and it was a shot over our shoulder to Evan and Lizzie's, who plays Grace, to their derrieres. And, you know, the scene was essentially she was like, "Miss Winters, pick out some, you know, cane to hit him with." And I was like, "No, no, I don't want to." And she's like, "Do it. Live large." You know. And I go pick this giant switch out to hit him with. And so we were just saying our lines off-camera and we just turned and were like, "This is" I mean, I'm practically seeing all Lizzie's business too. And I've got like this this I'm like, "This is really" It was it was a moment where we just started laughing. We had to cut the camera. This is a real behind-the-scenes. This is This is the This is what goes on behind the scenes of American Horror Story. Nutsacks, switches. Fake blood, like gallons. Like sometimes we're sitting in the makeup trailer getting our makeup done and someone from the effects department will come in with like a bucket of something I've never even seen like an industrial-sized bucket of detergent, it looks like, but it's just filled with fake blood. It's like, "Good morning, I've got your blood delivery." You're like, "Awesome."
