I had, I had a couple times where, uh, you know, my horse kinda tried to buck me off, but I rode it out.
Could you do bearback?
I don't even want to address that question.
Hey, everyone, Nikki Novak here in the Young Hollywood studio, and he is here and you are not dreaming. It is the star of Dallas, Jesse Metcalfe. How's it going?
Going well.
There's a reason why I said that.
What's that?
Well, it has to do with the posters. The new posters, which is they're back, and no, you're not dreaming. And you guys are all basically in the shower.
Yeah. Yeah. We had a lot of explaining to do. Just for the record, you know, the Ewing family does not shower together, so uh we all we all shot that separately. We're superimposed together. So, nothing weird is going on.
Got it. Yeah. Although it might have been fun. It could have been like a good ice breaker when you first all get on set.
Yeah, maybe not. There are certain things you just don't want to see, right? I, no, you know, I mean it's it's it was kind of just a kitschy sort of homage to the original series. You know, and uh And I I think I I think people really, uh, really thought it would thought it was fun and funny and so that's that's why that's why we did it.
Well, speaking of shirtless. Nice segue. Nice segue, right? I, well, first of all, I saw your tweet this morning that you were at the gym. And obviously, when you're doing something like that, you have to lead a healthy lifestyle. So how do you what is your workout regime? How do you eat fresh? How do you sort of, you know,
Sure, sure. Gosh, I just I just been exercising and working out probably since I was like 15 or 16.
I thought you were gonna say five. Since I was five and I knew I was gonna be an actor and be on Dallas and be shirtless. So what is the what are some like tips, or
So, I don't know, I do it all really, you know. I lift weights, uh, yoga, you know, do a lot of cardio, like to run, you know, love to play sports, play a lot of basketball. Uh, you know, it's it's it's really just it's it's not even really something I think about, you know, it's just something It's second nature. part of my daily routine, and if I don't do it, I just I just don't feel right.
Right. And food-wise? How do you how do you
I I eat pretty well.
You do.
I eat pretty well. Yeah. A lot of juices. I know that's a fat right now, but I'm I'm into the juices.
Do you make your own?
I don't I don't do my own juicing now.
You go somewhere. You purchase it.
There's there's there's plenty of options around Los Angeles. So,
There are. Well, we're we're definitely in the right town for that. So, um, so how is the show like a fresh take on the new generation of of Dallas?
Wow, um, in a in a lot of ways. I mean, the great thing about the show is that it's a continuation of the original series. I don't think it could have been done any other way.
It's not even a remake, it's a continuation.
Exactly. It just it just really picks up 20, 21 years later as though the cameras weren't rolling for those 20 years and and now they're rolling again. You know, and uh the the the torch has been passed so to speak, you know, to to the new generation and instead of it being about the the feuding brothers, it's about the feuding cousins.
Right. Right, right, right.
You know, it's about uh Christopher Ewing and and John Ross Ewing,
Who is you?
who has been rivals their whole lives and are at each other's throats and competing to uh to uh, you know, be at be be at the head of Southfork and to to take, you know, the the the Ewing, you know, the the Ewing business into the next generation.
The first day you stepped on set. Do they have like are there original writers or the original What is what is there from the original?
No. No. It's it's it's definitely a a new writing team, you know, which is important because it really gives us a fresh take on this on this new series. Um, I I think probably the main reason why certain incarnations uh of of bringing the show back didn't work is because they they couldn't really they couldn't really get the tone right of the original series while while giving it a contemporary feel.
Right. Right. You know, and our Especially the oil thing and having to deal with
Sure. Sure. And our our creator Cynthia Cidre I think did a, you know, tremendous tremendous job in doing that and I think that's why the show is gonna be be a success. You know, the show is very very contemporary, you know, and it's very relevant to what's going on now, socially and politically. Specifically with what, you know, with what my character is trying to do, which is, you know, bring the family away from drilling for oil and into more uh environmentally friendly, you know, fossil fuels like natural gas.
I saw something on your Twitter about you were watching a Piers Morgan interview and then he asked Slash, who would be your dream Yeah. a super super group, who would you put in your super group. Okay. Same question to you.
Oh my gosh. You know, I
You gotta put yourself in there.
Slash gave a great Oh, yeah, I got I got to be in there definitely. But as you know, Slash gave a great answer. I mean he said he said Iggy Pop and Jack White and I mean I definitely agree with Jack White. I mean Jack White is just tremendous, you know. He's probably one of the greatest musicians of our generation. So, very prolific. So, um, you know, I mean I I love music. I'm into a lot of a lot of new bands right now. Alabama Shakes, I really love them. You know, I I like these bands that are more kinda old-school, kinda blues-oriented.
Right. Right. Bluesy kinda straightforward rock. And how are your horse riding skills?
My horse riding skills are strong. Yeah. I love horse
Southern accent just kicked in when you just said that.
Did it? Yes. No, I mean, I I've put it I've put in the work. You know, I I knew that uh my character was gonna have to ride in a couple of scenes. And so I had about a a two to three week period before those scenes were gonna be shot and I just threw myself into it. I had a couple great teachers, Patrick Duffy being one of 'em.
Really. Any falls? Any near misses?
Um, yeah. I had I had a couple near misses, but no no falls. You know, I had I had a couple times where, uh, you know, my horse kinda tried to buck me off, but I rode it out.
Could you do bearback?
I don't even want to address that question.
Next season. Next season on Dallas, Jesse will be riding bearback. Wow. Okay. I'm setting the setting the tone for you. All right. Jesse Metcalfe, it's so great to have you here. Thanks. Congrats on the show.
Thank you so much.
