Sam Palladio

Hey, this is Sam Palladio here, uh, literally stuck at Young Hollywood.

Young Hollywood

No, literally, he's stuck. Yeah. Stay tuned, you'll see. I'm here with Sam Palladio, star of Nashville. How are you, first of all?

Sam Palladio

I'm very well, thank you. Apart from the gum that I've just sat in. That's making me.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. This is what we do to our guests. stick to the, um, sofa. Sam sat down and realized he couldn't get up, basically. At Young Hollywood. Yep. Yep. So somebody left gum.

Sam Palladio

Somebody, somebody sabotaged me. And it might be one of you guys. I'm not sure.

Young Hollywood

This is really, so you can't leave. Maybe a, a female fan did that so that you will stay. Do you want to hear the sound effect though?

Sam Palladio

Yes.

Young Hollywood

There we go. Roll it. I thought it was going to come up sooner, but

Sam Palladio

This is a really good ploy, though. We can just line up celebrities and just not allow them to leave.

Young Hollywood

So I have some, um, some of your Twitter photos. Okay. On the screen behind us. Oh, maybe you can't move 'cause of the gum. Oh, yeah. So, this is you tweeted this. It was something about like, this is the Englishman versus the, the Nashville guy.

Sam Palladio

Yeah. Yeah. This is my foot, and this is my great friend Sigador's foot. And, uh, this was at the Ryman Auditorium just before we went and and performed. So, he's a great friend and, um, fantastic drummer and he played drums for us that night.

Young Hollywood

Do you sort of feel like this now, though, in your heart? Are you sort of split between two worlds?

Sam Palladio

Yeah, I mean, I feel I feel that a little bit. I mean, I've been so welcomed here and have made so many friends and, um, just been given these opportunities that are incredible. So, little symbolic joining of feet.

Young Hollywood

Okay, what's next? That's the one that we have. Joining of the feet. That's always good. Yeah. Yes. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the Loveless Motel. That sounds sad, or it sounds seedy, or it sounds maybe like every hotel in the world. What was, what was the scenario?

Sam Palladio

Well, the Loveless Motel and the Loveless Cafe is, um, is this amazing cat like cafe in in Nashville, just out out of Nashville. It does the best kind of like fried chicken and all these great Southern delicacies, biscuits.

Young Hollywood

So, when you have no love in your life, you go there and you eat, go to the.

Sam Palladio

Yeah, you go and eat yourself. Yeah. Eat yourself into a food coma and and it kind of drowns out whatever love you've lost.

Young Hollywood

Okay. I think we have one more. Now, what is this? I think this was right. I don't drink alcohol. Before. Is that a pickle in the drink? What is that? So, this was, wasn't this like right before you left for Nashville?

Sam Palladio

This is my one of my favorite drinks. It's a Brandy and Ginger Ale. And so, this was just at Heathrow Airport, um, just a little celebration before I got on the plane for the first time to to fly to Nashville.

Young Hollywood

Do they have it in America?

Sam Palladio

You know what? I don't think I have. Um, it's quite a, it's quite a British classic kind of old British drink, so.

Young Hollywood

Right. I wanted to, um, to ask you because, you know, people always ask, you know, singers, musicians, what's on their iPod? 'Cause on my iPod, I have this song. It's this really embarrassing song called, Why Didn't You Text Me Back? Do you really? Does that sound familiar?

Sam Palladio

It does. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Do tell the story. Um, Do you have that song on your iPod for for some reason by any chance?

Sam Palladio

Yeah. That was the first song I ever wrote.

Young Hollywood

Yes. When you were how old?

Sam Palladio

Um, probably 14. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

How how did it go again? I can't remember.

Sam Palladio

Goes, why didn't you text me back? You are too slack. Never going to take you back if you don't text me back. Yeah. And it carries on.

Young Hollywood

And did she text you back?

Sam Palladio

No.

Young Hollywood

I bet she's sorry now.

Sam Palladio

Yeah. Yeah. Wherever you are.

Young Hollywood

Maybe she put the gum on the couch.

Sam Palladio

Probably. She probably did. She probably did.

Young Hollywood

So, tell us, because I know when you, you booked the show, you sent tapes to Hollywood from your bedroom in England. And you booked this massive ABC show.

Sam Palladio

I did. It's, it's sounds insane.

Young Hollywood

What was the what was the setting in the bedroom like? What was it? Was it like the bed was in the background? Like, how did you sort of set it up?

Sam Palladio

I didn't I couldn't afford a a decent digital camera, so it was even on my, you know, my webcam on my laptop. So, and I like, you know, I'm quite a control freak. When I get asked to to put things on tape myself, I kind of like that because it it means I can I can do a lot of work and I can.

Young Hollywood

You can do a million takes.

Sam Palladio

Well, you can do a million takes, but you always find out that actually you go back through them and it's pretty much the first two takes that are the ones 'cause they're when you're not thinking about it, you're not over analyzing yourself and I work better at night as well. My dad's my dad's a painter and he's so he's up all night kind of painting. I think I must have taken that gene from him. So, I think I did it about 4:00 in the morning. And just thought, you know, well, why not? This this is a fantastic project. It's kind of ticks all my boxes, um.

Young Hollywood

And And now it's a huge hit. So, let's talk first of all about the finale. The kiss.

Sam Palladio

Yeah. Finally. I mean, this is this has been building for for for eight episodes. For all of us. But for for for everybody and I think, um, this moment finally kind of happens, but it's, um, it doesn't really go according to plan. And he makes a few, um, bad choices actually, which build up to this to this moment in the Bluebird.

Young Hollywood

How can a kiss go so wrong?

Sam Palladio

You see, he's just come from the same afternoon, breaking it off with Haley. Being thrown a few a few episodes before where he's seen Clare, uh, sees Scarlett dancing and and singing. Passion is in, you know, enlightened again. And so, he's in this this crazy head space and and.

Young Hollywood

Isn't that the best time to kiss somebody, though?

Sam Palladio

Well, you'd think so, but it it's he doesn't use his better judgment. So, it's it's rushed and it's it's kind of sprung on Scarlett.

Young Hollywood

Is it strange, though, because, you know, obviously you get to know each other over the season and then all of a sudden it's at the end. They're like, okay, now you have to make out. You got to do it. Is that strange?

Sam Palladio

It was, you know, it was coming. I could see it coming, so.

Young Hollywood

You knew it. You were ready for it. We were both prepped. How proud is your mom? 'Cause I heard she texts you a lot.

Sam Palladio

She does text me a lot.

Young Hollywood

She texts you back.

Sam Palladio

She texts my mom texts me back, which which is all I need.

Young Hollywood

That's all you need in life. Well, thank you for coming in.

Sam Palladio

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

You can't leave. Yeah. Well, try again. Oh, look at this, look at this. He had a I had a cushion. I had a cushion stuck to me. Everything sticks to Sam. Do I get this? Is this my like parting gift? Yeah. And there's the culprit. Yeah. I'm so classy. Thanks, Sam.
