Vanessa Carlton

Hello, my name is Vanessa Carlton. This is Ari Engberg and Sky Steel, and we're at the Four Seasons ballroom with Young Hollywood, and this song is called Carousel.

Young Hollywood

I'm Oliver Chavana here at the Four Seasons ballroom where Vanessa Carlton has just taken over. Thanks for coming in.

Vanessa Carlton

Thank you for having us.

Vanessa Carlton

For all you brokenhearted lovers lost, go find another one, cuz you know time won't wait and you'll be late.

Young Hollywood

So, Rabbits on the Run, your new album. You're back. You disappeared for a bit. Very excited.

Vanessa Carlton

I did.

Young Hollywood

We sent out a little Vanessa search party and thankfully found you.

Vanessa Carlton

That's so sweet. Did you find me? I I might have missed you.

Young Hollywood

I like to take credit for most things in life so But I found you. You're welcome. I found you.

Vanessa Carlton

I had to kind of like start over. Yeah, it was really important for me to just kind of sit and listen and read and travel and you know, get collect my brain a bit, you know.

Vanessa Carlton

I'm over here with you. Here's a music beauty stands before you. Love comes back around again it's a carousel my friend.

Young Hollywood

How is this different from the first album for The Thousand Miles, The Thousand Miles songs? That was one of them songs that just stayed in you.

Vanessa Carlton

Yeah.

Vanessa Carlton

making them wave, then come in again. That's it. That's the song.

Young Hollywood

That's a good performance. I was charming.

Vanessa Carlton

Yeah. Thank you. Uh I honestly heard it on the radio the other day and I did not recognize myself. It was weird.

Young Hollywood

Where do you get your inspiration from when you write the song? The lyrics and stuff.

Vanessa Carlton

Yeah, for this project, I think a lot of books, particularly two books on this album, um, were kind of the totems if you will for this record. One is Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, and the other is uh Richard Adams Watership Down. Again, an English author. Very English record.

Young Hollywood

What an emotional film that was. Amazing. Amazingly beautiful film. Poor little rabbits. Get caught in the fence. Fiver.

Vanessa Carlton

Yes. Oh god. I went to this little Montessori school when I was young, on a beautiful farm. And I found the rabbits to be very unfriendly, actually. Okay. I like to watch them from afar. I like hares in particular. The huge ears. Beautiful. The little ones are and I'm never been so sure that after all these years I never learned that heavenly creatures never come.

Young Hollywood

And uh you're quite you're quite pally with Stevie Nicks, aren't you? Like fairy godmother sort of thing.

Vanessa Carlton

She is totally my fairy godmother.

Young Hollywood

Has she given you any uh good advice?

Vanessa Carlton

Recently we were talking about people that wear sunglasses.

Young Hollywood

Okay. She doesn't like that. But where They think you're hiding something. If you're wearing them on stage. Oh, okay.

Vanessa Carlton

Yeah, I'm not a fan of people wearing them inside. It's weird. They're called sunglasses for a reason.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, a little weird. Thanks so much for coming in.

Vanessa Carlton

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for your performance.

Vanessa Carlton

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Lovely to meet you. Lovely to see you and lovely to see you back.

Vanessa Carlton

Thanks.

Young Hollywood

Don't disappear again.

Vanessa Carlton

Don't disappear again. I'm here for a little bit. And then then we'll see. Then we'll see.

Young Hollywood

Well, I think you should stick around.

Vanessa Carlton

Wasting away the days. Waiting on a new age.
