Will Jesse McCartney Perform Old Songs On Tour?

What's up, Young Hollywood? I am here in the studio with Jesse McCartney. Thank you so much for being with us today.

Thanks for having me Emily. Hey, everybody.

I wanna talk to you about your new single Cool. Better With You.

Yeah.

It's really great.

Thank you.

It's the first song we've heard from you since your album came out in 2014.

Yeah. Almost four years.

Yeah. So it's really exciting. Everyone's super stoked on it. What was your writing process like?

Well, I got into the studio about a year ago, just over a year ago. And uh, started just coming coming up with new ideas for this project. I was working with a songwriter by the name of Brandon Burnette and his girlfriend Molly More. During that time, it was like really crazy politically and socially. There was a lot going on in the news. It was just a very contentious time and it felt like a lot of people were just divided. There was division everywhere. And we just wanted to write a song to make people feel better. Uh, you know, and

It works.

And yeah. And so just to sort of like take people's mind off of the, you know, reality for just a few minutes. As far as the process goes, I just kinda write about what's going on in my life or what's going on in the world or just kinda draw off real life, you know, real-life moments.

You have that tour coming up this summer.

Tour coming up this summer. We just announced a few days ago. I'll be traveling from June, yeah, middle of June to end of July. Tickets are going fast. It's awesome. The fans have have shown their support. So I'm pumped. Get 'em quickly.

You have been in the industry since you were a kid.

Yep.

Do you have any advice for any young people who are trying to break into the entertainment industry? What would you say to them?

I would I would say it's just to to be a part of anything and everything. You know? I think like, you know, if there's one thing I would have changed maybe about my earlier years is I think I said no to certain things that in hindsight, maybe now I I should have done. Just because you you can never have too much experience. Right. And you can never learn too much about whether it's film or or or TV or or or music or writing. If people come to you with opportunities, seize 'em. Like, take take the opportunity, do it.

New music coming out. Do you have a date yet?

I don't have any official release dates. And and the reason is because I'm not doing a traditional album right now. So I released Better With You a few months back, or a couple months ago. And I'm gonna do another song by the end of the summer, early fall. And then maybe an EP to follow that or or even another song after that. I There's no rules really anymore in music. So I'm just kinda like taking it a song at a time, see where people connect, see what people like. And then also I wanna just get back in the studio and and keep writing. So my plan was to just kinda put all of my attention into one or or or a few songs at a time. And so that's what I'm doing. There's not.

Going back to the tour,

Yeah.

Is there any song that you like to perform in particular?

Look, as an artist like, you know, you always love performing the new stuff and it it's just

Whether the fans want to hear.

The fans, of course they wanna hear the old stuff and I always give them the old stuff. You can't not play the songs that got you there in the first place. Absolutely. So I play all the, you know, the old throwbacks, the Beautiful Souls, the She's No You's, the, you know, Body Language, the Leavin's. It's also like important as an artist to be able to play the new stuff and and develop the new material on stage just cuz it keeps it fresh and exciting for me. Right. But it's just a balance, you know. The setlist is is a very delicate thing. And you want, you know, peaks and valleys. You want to bring the show up and then you wanna bring it down and we're actually working on it as we speak. I'm working on my setlist for this tour.

When there was nothing left You showed me the best. I'm still a mess but you hold on. Don't know just why you do, but I know I'm better with you.
