What's going on guys? Hanging with me today, I have Nicholas Gonzalez. What's up, Nicholas?
Not much. How are you?
I'm good, I'm good. I'm having a really good time.
Yeah?
Yeah. Did you see yourself up there?
I did. A little larger than life.
I wanted to wait for it to come back, but you have the smize down. Do you think you can teach me how to do it at the end?
The smize? Is that what it's called?
Look at that. Look at those eyes.
I think I peaked in that picture.
So, here's our beautiful celebrity pillow. You know someone on that pillow.
I know the the beautiful and talented RJ. RJ Williams, shout out RJ. From his salad days of youth, traipsing around Hollywood, I got some stories about that guy. He probably doesn't want me to tell. I don't know.
But you guys were were close buddies back then.
Yeah. Yeah. No, it was always good seeing him.
And I I knew that he was doing this, but look at look at how it's grown. And now you're here on our beautiful white couch about to talk. So, we've seen you on Pretty Little Liars, How to Get Away with Murder, and now The Good Doctor. All amazing shows. Did you know that you're considered the heartthrob of The Good Doctor? You have heard that before?
No, actually, I haven't heard that before. You know, what what you have to understand about our show, though, too, is we're up in the middle of nowhere in Vancouver in a in a warehouse shooting, so we don't really hear anything. When we get out of that cocoon, we start hearing the feedback about the show, which is great, but we just you wouldn't know it. It's been nice getting the uh the response, but no, I was unaware of that.
So, let's talk more about The Good Doctor. Okay. So, you play a doctor on the show, and you work really closely with Freddie Highmore.
Right, I'm his boss.
Yes. And we've had him in the studio and we just we love him so much. He's great. Yeah. How's it like working with him?
Freddie's a consummate professional, you know, I mean, he's 25, but we say, you know, at 25 going on, you know, 45. Yeah. Uh not only in his tastes, you know, and his his general like demeanor, but he sets the tone. You know, I mean, he's there to get the best possible performance out of himself and everyone else. It is an honor and a pleasure to work with him.
And the accent, I'm sure, just isn't terrible when he's just walking around.
Right, right. He's got that great smooth accent.
Can you do any accents?
Mhm.
Which one? Well, actually, don't tell me. Just say start saying something and then I'll guess.
Um, I could start to do some accent for you. Um, I don't know what you want me to say exactly, but
It's kind of German. Is it German? Can you just do one more, because I felt bad I didn't guess that and I feel terrible now. You're a good actor, so good good actor.
I don't know, girl. I mean, um, yeah, I mean, growing up there's a lot of people around me that talk this way. So, you know, all right, all right.
Oh, Matthew McConaughey. But where's that from?
Is Texas.
Oh. Well, he sounded just like that. It's Matthew McConaughey accent. So, what do you like to do then when you're not being an actor?
Right now, I don't have a lot of time when I'm not, which is great. It's where you all want, you know, it's where you always want to be. I said I want to be busy. I want to be going project to project. This past year has been amazing. And now I'm at that point. It's like I don't have a lot of free time. But any free time is family time now for me. Um I have a 10-month-old. She's the coolest name ever, by the way. Ever. Everly Wild. Everly Wild Gonzalez.
And then quickly, just to bring it back to The Good Doctor, what do you want people to know about the show and autism if they haven't watched yet?
When it comes to autism, I think the most important thing people need to understand is Dr. Shaun Murphy does not represent autism. He doesn't, you know, autism is a spectrum. And I think the most important thing for people to realize is it manifests itself in so many different ways. But it is something that's that's very varied and and Dr. Shaun Murphy and the the portrayal that Freddie Highmore does of that is only one example of autism. So, I think that's one of the most important things to know. Some people really they love seeing autism covered and it makes people feel like, hey, uh, you know, my my son, my daughter is being understood more by people around me. And that's the stories we hear, like, thank you for telling our stories. Thank you for being informative. But then for every one of that, there's also the detractors of people that, well, my son doesn't doesn't have spawns syndrome. My son isn't a doctor. Is that okay? Is is he as special? You know, and people get emotional about it. It's a very emotional topic, but I think autism is something it's almost like cancer. And I say that very carefully, but I just mean in the way that it touches all of our lives. I think we all know somebody who either is on the spectrum or is related to someone who is.
I love it. That was just spoken so eloquently. I love that.
I'm reading it off the card right here.
Oh, wow. You are. That's. I love it. Well, congratulations on everything, on being a new dad, and for coming in the studio. It was so much fun. To toss out the interview, let's do the smize to camera, okay?
Okay.
Just give me one quick tip. How do you do it?
You kind of just uh make your eyes like you're a little tired. Maybe they're burning a little bit. And slowly breathe out through your soup coolers. These are your soup coolers. Right? Soup.
Oh. Oh. Okay. This is going to be awful. So, just three, two, one. Am I doing it? I don't know where I don't know where everything hangs these days. So, I'm not an actor. Thank you so much, Nicholas Gonzalez, for coming by.
You were acting like you were doing it, though. True. That's half the battle.
