Hey, what's up guys? We're hanging out in the Young Hollywood studio with two very strong and independent women, Lauren Cohan and Ronda Rousey. How's it going?
Good. How are you?
Good, thank you. You like that intro? Strong, independent women. Right? You guys are so Beyonce right now. So the movie is amazing, Mile 22. You guys are definitely strong female characters in this movie. You're in a task force, right? So tell me about this movie a little bit.
Uh, well, we're the Black Ops team, um, that is the the third option of protecting a country. First is diplomacy, then it's military, and then it's it's us. And so, um, we are not the no man left behind. We are mission first and if you're getting left behind, you're getting left behind and we have one person that we have to move 22 miles. Everything on Earth happens within those 22 miles.
What was it like working in Colombia? I saw you posted some pictures of the great food you were eating there. How is the food there by the way? Looks pretty good.
Amazing. It is really amazing. Everything about Colombia is amazing. I just went back to Cartagena for vacation last week. I'm like pretty obsessed with the food, the people, we had such an amazing time being there and um we were given we were given the space to do a lot of what this movie required, you know, the action is real and the explosions are real and the fire is real and it's all done safely but it's it's it's necessary for a movie of this scale to to have that kind of space and and the the officials there were amazing. I mean we had the president shooting some scenes of the movie in one of our big square like basically it's the Time Square of Bogota that we were filming in. So
Cool. Yeah. That's cool. What was it like working with Mark Wahlberg too when I was watching the movie, he's just yelling the whole time. He's yelling at you. He he pushes your birthday cake off the table for thing. I'm thinking this must be so funny though when you cut, you're like, "Mark, come on."
Stressed out. He's very intense.
He is intense and he's intense when he's like working too and so like it wasn't like he would go from like Silva and like knock over the cake and then like, "Mark, knock over the cake." He'd knock over the cake and be like,
And it would keep me in character. I'm like, "Whoa, I'm not. Yeah, I'm not happy about my birthday." Like he he he helped me like really stay in it because he was always in it.
Yeah. Okay, you coming from Walking Dead and you coming from WWE. Did it feel natural to play these strong characters already for you guys since you already are strong characters?
Yeah, I mean I I gravitate I mean I think we probably both do, but I I gravitate to um to things that I find real. So it's not even that I read something and think, "Oh, she seems like a strong female." I think, "This seems like a great story and of course this is what happens." You know what I mean? So, I think what we get what we get a chance with in Mile 22 is to see that gender is a non-issue. It's like, "Can you get the job done? Can you go into this um environment and do what needs to be done?" And that's what that's what drew me to a role.
Yeah. I was drawn to Sam from the very beginning because um from the beginning of this project before Mile 22 was even a movie and before there was even a Sam. I know I knew I want to be part of Mile 22. Um but um I guess uh Pete really he created the character more for me to fit into it. So it wasn't like, "I have this idea for this character. I want you to be more like them." He was he was great in kind of like made this character of like, "I I wrote this person who I think you would be the best to play."
See, that's perfect, right? Yeah. I feel like a move you can teach me like a self-defense move. You fight off zombies all the time. And you're always playing these action heroes. You are the best fighter ever. So like, there's got to be something, right? Like teach these young kids how to self-defense.
I'll fight off zombies. I got one for you. You ready? Okay. This is the shank right here.
