Hey, what's up, guys? We're hanging out in the Young Hollywood studio with Debby Ryan. We were just talking you have a golden retriever, which is so I can totally see that. You have that golden retriever personality. You know, just lovable.
He's um a lot of energy. He's like I was very much a cat person. And so adjusting to I've never had a big dog. So big dog energy in the house. And puppy baby energy. Oh, so cute. He's perfect. And he just loves to spin. He's adorable.
Oh, I love it. I'm so excited to talk to you because when I was doing research on you, you have such an interesting background. You traveled all around Europe cuz your dad was in the military.
He worked with like the Department of Defense at the time for a government group called the GSA. So, that's cool.
So, what were the different places you lived in?
Well, I lived in Germany and then that that's where I went to German public school and then I went to American public school on the base. And then my mom began to like create and customize our curriculum and so she home-schooled us and then we would travel to any of like the neighboring countries or we would just like travel and camp at campgrounds all up and down Italy and study ancient Rome and study like the oceans and just be able to kind of yeah, it was really smart and informed and I think it like helped me fall in love with learning at such a young age. And I was like learning and education is such a luxury.
Yeah. So you you came back here and then you settled in regular school and then I read you were the school mascot?
I was.
And in the chess club?
Yeah. I was in the chess club before public school. So I was in the chess club because we were home-schooled and my parents wanted us to make friends and get socialized. So we joined a home-school chess club which I love this. Actually, like it was me and one other female and the rest were dudes. And uh I still keep up with her. Like she's awesome and she's really cool.
And you're good at chess. Probably.
I'm pretty great at chess, yeah. I do I do maintain my skills.
And school mascot? I love this.
Yeah, it's that was where like performing, hiding in plain sight, like truly being able to like the broader the better and the more people that you can get engaged on a Texas football fields. I mean, that's It's that's the NFL, right? It's like huge. It's so big and the lights and just the crunchy grass and the adrenaline that really was magic and then to be able to really hide, you know, and not have to look like anything and have this kind of body in space that you're keeping up with it. It was really fun. It was freeing.
Did it help you at all with this character you're playing now in Insatiable. You start off nerdy in this show. And you know, being a mascot can be considered nerdy, although I think it's pretty cool. I would want to be the mascot. All eyes on me, right? I mean, I think that's pretty great. And no one knows it's you. The first rule is you can't reveal your identity. Yeah, no one knows it's you. And now you're in this great show you you kinda start off as a nerd in this show Insatiable. It's on Netflix. I love this show so much. It's so funny.
Yes, I know. I it made me so happy when you were talking about watching it and traveling along through the journey. It was quite interesting like definitely the transformation and I think everyone knows what it's like to to feel uh other, to to be looking at one group of people and say like well, those are those people and um I think I was very similar to Patty uh and that I wasn't like socializating and trying to make tons of friends or having a bunch of people over or going to parties or anything really. I just kind of had my one or two and felt good about it and, you know, always was striving for more and always, you know, whenever the cuz as the mascot you're close to the cheerleaders, but it's very clear that you are not one of them.
So this show, I was just laughing so hard watching this last night. Dallas Roberts. This guy is so funny and your your chemistry with him on camera is so funny. So you kinda have this crush on him throughout the show. He totally doesn't see it cuz he just wants to make you a pageant queen. Yeah. Tell me about this. It's an interesting dynamic, I think. And really touchy as well because he is so much older than Patty's character. Which I think you know, buys us a lot that he's never considered that she has this crush really. And Alyssa Milano too plays his wife. What is it like working with her? I mean, just such a fantastic actress.
Yeah. Just really incredible and I'd been familiar with her work, but I think what she does in this course of the show is so beautiful and human and textured and really takes you on a journey to where throughout the course of the show you find yourself justifying and rooting for things and understanding things and believing in things that you might not have ever understood that you were in line with because of the humanity that she brings to it. Which I think is so awesome.
Okay, before we end the interview, what's coming up in the future? Season two?
I mean, fingers crossed. Right?
Well, thank you so much for coming in and and it was so great to meet you. I hope you keep doing comedies because you're so funny. I mean this show's really funny. So thank you so much. It was good to meet you.
