Angourie Rice

Hi, I'm Angourie Rice and I'm here at Young Hollywood and we are going to find out how Australian I am.

Young Hollywood

Um, here's the first one. Sandals or thongs? What's the right word?

Angourie Rice

Um, right, so I've actually gotten in trouble for this one before. Um, like talking about thongs because here it's like underwear. Um, but in Australia thongs are flip-flops. But sandals and thongs are are different. The thongs are are like flip-flops and sandals are just normal shoes, like normal sandals. Um, but yeah, I've that's that's happened to me before. It's very embarrassing.

Young Hollywood

Um, have you thrown shrimp on a Barbie?

Angourie Rice

Well, the funny thing is, we do say Barbie and you will have like a Barbie on Christmas Day because it's hot. But we don't say shrimp, that's a very American thing to say. We will say prawns. And I haven't physically thrown prawns on a Barbie, but I have had barbecued prawns. So, that counts.

Young Hollywood

What is the Australian slang word for each of these?

Angourie Rice

Okay, breakfast is brekkie. Mosquito, mozzie. And McDonald's, Maccas. And I feel so unsophisticated saying all of these. But yeah, brekkie, mozzies, and Maccas. And I've said all three of those words here in America and no one understands me.

Young Hollywood

This one, ooh, says, explain the expression this expression, okay, who opened their lunch?

Angourie Rice

I don't know what that means. Does that mean am I a fraud? Maybe I'm not a real Australian. It means that somebody farted in the room. Oh, oh, my mom knows what that is. It is real. I just I've never heard of this before. I'm going to use this expression now. That's really funny. That's hilarious.

Young Hollywood

Do you like Vegemite? Please explain what it is.

Angourie Rice

Okay, so Vegemite is a spread um that you put on toast. And it's a byproduct of beer. So, it's made of of yeast, um which kind of sounds a bit gross and it's sort of like brown. Um, and it's really, really salty, um but it's it's delicious. I love it. I grew up eating it. Um, and I've yeah, I've made Americans try Vegemite before and they don't like it. But, you know.

Young Hollywood

Spell Woolloomooloo without looking at this card.

Angourie Rice

Oh, when I just looked at it. Um, Woolloomooloo W O O L L O O M O L O O Oh no, I got it wrong. Oh no, I got it wrong.

Young Hollywood

What does it mean to chuck a sickie?

Angourie Rice

So, I've done this before. This is when you will call in to work or school sick and you're not really sick. Um, that's what it means to chuck a sickie. So, if you like don't want to go to sport day at school, you can just get your parents to call up the school. I'm looking at my mom now. And and then they'll say, "Oh yeah, she's really sick." Um, and that's what's called chucking a sickie.

Young Hollywood

Have you taken a selfie with a kangaroo?

Angourie Rice

No.

Young Hollywood

What is a patch rash?

Angourie Rice

This is this is when you've been kissing someone for a while and you just get like a rash around your mouth. It's a bit gross.

Young Hollywood

And the last one, list three flavors of Tim Tams.

Angourie Rice

Oh, so, for anyone who doesn't know, Tim Tams are like the best thing in the world. They are um, it's like it's two chocolate biscuits or cookies sandwiched together with chocolate mousse in the middle and then all coated in chocolate. And you can have mint flavored ones, you can have cherry flavored ones, and I think you can get peanut butter as well. There are lots of different ones, but I I love Tim Tams. They're my guilty pleasure. They say it takes like you have to run 3 kilometers to burn one of those off, but, you know, it's worth it.

Young Hollywood

And that's it. Am I Australian enough?

Angourie Rice

Yes.
