Hey guys, I'm Molly Argu and I am sitting on the Young Hollywood couch with a very special guest today. Amia Miller. Hi.
So good to see you. Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here.
I just saw the movie War for the Planet of the Apes and I am completely mind-blown. We are not savages. Apes fight only to survive. Bad human kill apes. All all dead now for a long time. Time. Bad humans. Soldier. I don't understand the technology behind it and how they were able to do such an amazing movie with CGI. Can you tell us about working on the film and maybe some challenges that you faced for acting in a CGI film?
I was skeptical at first because I had never done anything with mo cap before, but I got used to it and the actors were so amazing and they really just transformed into apes. And the sets, they were just so visual and you could really imagine yourself being there. And Matt Reeves, he really just put me in that mindset and he's he's such a brilliant genius.
Well, I feel like you're the brilliant genius because not many people can do what you did for this movie. I'm picturing you like standing in front of a green screen talking to different angles or talking to different things that maybe aren't even the actors. Can you explain a little bit how it works?
Yeah, so some of it most of it there was no green screen or anything. They really built all of those sets. And every scene or almost every scene I had to do it by myself and then with the apes. So when I did it by myself, I had pieces of tape. And I had to do the scene the exact same way but with different colors of tape to represent the apes.
Well, your co-stars are literally a bunch of apes, but in real life, what is it like behind the scenes when you're not filming?
I established so many amazing relationships and we really became family because we filmed for almost seven months. So, you know, we were super close. And I mean, I have a candy club with Andy. And we dance in the rain and then me and Steve were were buddies.
To be in a Planet of the Apes film is so amazing. For you, what was like the coolest, most memorable moment or maybe the most surprising moment?
I didn't know that I was auditioning for a Planet of the Apes movie. I only knew that it was for a Fox movie and for a mute character. So, I had the audition and then a few weeks later I had a call back with our director Matt. Okay. And then a few weeks later I found out that I booked it. And they were like, are you excited you're going to be in a Planet of the Apes? Then you had no no clue. I was like, what? And it's crazy because I was a fan of the movies. My dad and I used to like always watch them and we still do. So, now that I'm in one, I'm so excited about it.
For those that might not know too much about you, can you share three things that maybe most people don't know about you?
My dad owns an MMA gym, mixed martial arts.
Wow.
Yes. So, that's what I do when I'm not working. And then I love to learn.
Okay.
Like, I it's just crazy. I and I teach my little brother. I also have two brothers.
Are and they're both younger?
I'm the middle child and we're all six years apart.
Wow. If you love to learn, do you want to learn another language or what's something you really want to learn?
I'm studying Spanish.
Oh, really?
Yes.
Can you say a little something in Spanish?
Hola, me llamo Maya.
Great. Yeah. I understood that. Hello, my name is Maya. Maya, great. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Thank you.
Thanks guys.
