Hey guys, it is Audrey and on the couch with me, Cole Sprouse.
Howdy.
magically appeared from Riverdale. Yes. Well, congrats on the show. You play Jughead. Yes. How long did it take for the hair to settle in and all that Jughead?
Um, you mean the angsty kind of emo persona? Just instant. I've been going method for the last, you know, 24 years. So yeah.
Oh, okay. Wow. So this is the role of a lifetime.
Yeah, they were like, can you be emo? I was like, That's how I responded.
Was that your audition?
Yeah, yeah. That's just how I responded. And it was like, and scene, you got it.
And this show is way darker than the tone of the comics. Did you, is that what kind of like drew you to signing on?
Yes. I was actually originally given the part of Archie to read, but there was a scene I was asked to read between Jughead and Archie and then I found out Jughead was also the narrator and I was like, I got, I got to read for Jughead. Plus it was very different from, you know, The Suite Life, like the role I played on that and I kind of, I didn't know if I wanted to continue acting and it had to feel quite different and quite fun and yeah.
So KJ Appa was here not too long ago and he spoke a little bit to your bromance. You guys have a raging bromance going on.
Sure.
Um, and he said he was like a little nervous. About the bromance. About working with you. About working with you because he was such a big fan of you and Dylan back in the day.
Well, look, I was nervous to work with him. We're, when you meet your cast for the first time, you're always a bit nervous. I I think he expected me to be quite pretentious, which I am, but I wasn't as pretentious to him as
At least you're self-aware.
Right. At least I, yeah. I'm a self-aware pretentious. Um, but he thought I was gonna be super pretentious and I thought he was gonna be like just a bro. You know, with all the casts and I was nervous to meet every, every member of the cast because you don't know if you're gonna, you know, mash with them. Right. And but everyone gets along like peas in a pod. Yeah. KJ and I, we took a road trip back from Vancouver. We go camping a lot. It's fun.
Okay. He said you knew a lot about camping. Like you could be like a survivalist basically.
Yeah. Yeah. I uh, well, I studied archeology in school for a while and um, we would camp in uh, like Bulgaria or we would oh and then we'd excavate and we would be on site and off site and um, I did that for a long time and then I, you know, being raised in the entertainment industry, you have this escapism that sort of drives you into the wilds. Um, and that to me kind of became like a healthy meditation and I would go out into the woods and, you know, be super aesthetic with like my camera and, you know, my flannel.
Get your thrum on.
And yeah, and just look really angsty. Cuz the fan base of the show is also kind of wild. Like, like it's not who you expect. Right? Tell me some of the fan interactions that you've had that that you've been a little surprised by.
Yeah. Um, oh, very old crowd. You know, the Archie The Archie Comics as a property rose out of like the 40s. Um, you know, that kind of uh, Golden Age America that people like to talk about and um, so you get this Archie Comics fan base that's quite old and then also very young with what we're trying to appeal to. And so it's a, it's a, it's a strange mix that I never really anticipated. I was out with uh, with Lily, um, the other day and this very old man came up to us, you know, basically on a cane and he was like, I love you guys on the show. And I was thinking like, my god.
That was really weirdly convincing. That was that is
Oh, the, the Yeah, the old man voice? Yeah, season two Jughead's really old. Yeah, it hasn't been announced yet. Just the emo has just like aged. This was all
Yeah.
Exactly. Exactly right. Just just aging prematurely.
He talked about stocking on social media. Admittedly, I have been stalking your multiple Instagram accounts by the way. So you have one that's your main one that's like a lot really cool photography.
Sure.
And then you have this other one that I really like called camera duels. Oh. Um, please explain and then everybody at home go and subscribe to the go follow this because it is it is pretty pretty intense.
Camera duels was an exercise in patience. Um, It's uh, it's an Instagram account that's dedicated to people who try to take sneaky photos and they think they're being super secretive and quiet and and and subtle about it but their whole aura changes. Their disposition changes. Everything about them becomes awkward and strained. And when I noticed it, it used to really make me angry. So, as an attempt to come to terms with it, I started this account that allowed me to sort of have a little more agency in the situation. Um, and then it did the exact opposite of what I wanted it to do which I wanted it to tell people like, hey, stop. You guys are being weird. People started to become crazy about getting on the
So, they see you and they purposely pull out a phone.
Right. Which then became, you know, it completely backfired. I don't know why I thought it was it wasn't gonna have that effect. Uh, it was it completely backfired for me. And I haven't really done it in a while unfortunately because I I reached a kind of peaceful conclusion in my mind. Uh, which, you know, sort of removed the reason I was doing it. It was the anger of of of me having to deal with it initially that sort of drove me to do it in the first place. And now that I've come to peace with that horrifying part of my life. Um, I uh, I don't know. I I don't really feel driven to do it as much anymore. I'd like to open up like a small little gallery for it though eventually.
I think I think it's brilliant. Honestly. I think it's like this funny social experiment on Instagram. It's it's pretty amazing. Before we go, we did this with KJ. It's a little game called Riverdale Rapid Fire.
Cool.
And I'm just gonna throw out a couple questions and you name a person from the cast that you honestly think that you believe this is true for. So, most likely to off an enemy.
Oh, Veronica.
Like Camila. Like you think Camila would would do it?
Oh yeah. Okay. So, we're using. Yeah. Oh no, we're going real here. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. That's still Camila. Yeah. Still. Oh yeah. Oh.
KJ said you.
Oh. Well, I'm not gonna say it about me. That incriminates me.
Yeah. That's true.
I'd be like, yeah, me. We're just gonna keep answering me for all these.
Person you'd most like to be stuck on a desert island with?
Um, Luke Perry for sure. Yeah. Yeah. He knows stuff. Yeah. He's like He's he's got that sort of camping background. I feel like he he's got
You two camping is like dream come true. I feel like he would be the one to scale the coconut tree and then just like knock the coconuts off.
Completely. Yeah.
Person most likely to get stuck on a desert island.
Lily. Oh. Not a doubt in my mind.
Why?
I feel like she just stumbles she stumbles into situations where she's like, I'm not equipped for this. Um, so, uh, yeah, definitely.
Is that your Lily impression? I like it. Most likely to have the most secrets. Cuz Riverdale is full of secrets.
I would say KJ. Yeah. You know, it's just such an honest exterior. I am immediately distrusting of people with such an honest exterior.
And he has so many shirtless pictures of themselves out there on the internet.
Exactly. You're like, what's why are you crushing two Red Bulls in this Twitter photo.
Okay. Okay. Cole, this was awesome. Uh, before we go,
Yes.
Let's let's get a selfie just because I want I want I want
Is this standard practice now? Do you get
Yeah. No. No. It's not. No. This is just just here. There you go. Yeah. Uh-huh. Look natural. This is not. Yeah.
