Reliving 'Before I Fall' with Zoey Deutch

Hey, what's up, guys? Nicole Kotchin in the Young Hollywood Studio, and I'm joined today by Zoey Deutch. How are you?

Hi. Good, I'm well. How are you?

Good. First of all, I have to say you're so cute. You, like, match our couch perfectly.

I did that on purpose, of course. I called ahead of time. I said I need to match the couch, and luckily, it all worked out as planned. This is the first time I've had um, Betty White and uh, Jon Hamm and Matt Damon on my lap. I love it. Anyway, thank you.

Well, I have to say I'm so excited you're here because before I fall. Yes. Maybe for you there's a tomorrow. Maybe there's 1,000, or 10. But for some of us, there's only today. Hey, sexy, get in. So, for people that don't know, Before I Fall, it's about your character, Sam. We follow her as she relives the same day over and over again, right? She relives her last day until she kind of discovers how to write her own wrongs. Was there like a specific line in your script when you saw it, and you were just like, I connect to this film so much, or I have to do this project?

Sam sees this poster that says become who you are. And that to me is a essential theme of the film. And becoming who you are isn't this like one-stop shop. It's a forever process, and there isn't a right time or place or age to do it, you know? And the film starts off with Sam being this follower, living a life unconsciously. She's She leads a really wonderful life with great parents. She goes to a great school. She's well off. Um, but she's not grateful or cognizant of this life she's leading. Right. And by the end, she becomes her own leader. Not in like the I'm an alpha sort of leader, but in the Take responsibility for your actions. Right. Sort of way.

Regardless of anything I do or say, the day starts and ends the same. Do you think I'm a good person? It doesn't matter what I think. It's important as what you think. If I was going to relive the same day over and over. I want it to be a day that would make a difference. Not just for me. They just need to hold on for one more minute. So, with Sam, she relives her last day for a week, right? A week straight, or about seven days. So I want to know, is there something maybe that's happened to you in the last week or the last month that you would relive, and why?

Right now. What people don't know is there's a ton of free um, like sodas here, and it's really bright, and there's a lot of nice, good-looking people here. It's really exciting. Thank you. It's Yes, um. That's my answer.

Um, you've worked with amazing people in your career. Zac Efron, James Franco, and Keon, and Before I Fall. So, I actually wanted to play a little game with you. It's would you rather, rapid fire. Co-star edition. And look at these little heads. That's your sneaky.

I did. I kind of whipped it out there.

So, the first question is, out of those three, who would you rather take to Disneyland?

Um. This one.

Why?

It would be funny.

Um, who would you rather have as a wingman?

Oh, you know what? Really? You know what? I feel like that would be kind of an intimidating pack, but, like, they would do a really good job together. That's right. Yeah.

And um, who would you rather be stuck in the car with for 12 hours?

Uh, this one.

Is there a reason for this one?

'Cause it would be funny.

Oh my God. So, we've established James Franco is just fun.

I just learned English. I'm still learning how to speak it properly. Barely, okay.

Wait, we're not done, Zoey. What are you doing?

Oh, yeah, sorry. So sorry.

I read that you have a weird pet peeve, people touching your eyelashes. Uh-huh. Is that true?

It's so true, and it came because, yeah, but I I do it all the time, too. I started doing it because it bothered me so much when other people did it, that I would have to do it myself to combat my issue with it.

Okay. So, the question is, who would you rather touch your eyelashes out of those three?

My mind is checking out. That is It's anxiety. No, I mean, I mean, yes. I live in a constant state of anxiety, but that is a really That's actually a very good question. Um, I'm trying to think. Yeah, I'm going to have to pass. I'm going to say none. I don't want anyone to touch my eyelashes.
