Hey everyone, Molly Argu here inside the Young Hollywood Studio. And today, I'm joined by a Golden Globe winner and best-selling author. That's so cool. Special guest, Chris Colfer. Welcome back.
Thanks for having me. Yeah, happy to be back.
Yeah, it's great to see you.
You too.
Now, I have to start by asking you a question that's burning on my mind. I don't think I've ever met somebody that has met an alien. And you have a story, I believe, where you met an alien. And I I have to know. Yeah. What happened?
Well, uh, I was I was a kid.
Okay. How old were you approximately?
Oh, gosh. Probably, I wanna say like ten, nine or ten. Okay. And I I've always I've always loved aliens. Like, love. They've always been one of my favorite things. I had bronchitis. I had like sizzurp levels of cough syrup in me. And I woke up one night, and there was a little alien like standing for my bed, kinda looking at me.
Was he green?
He had a green tint. Okay. But I would say he was more like like a grayish blue. But a green tint. It very well could have been a hallucination because I was sick, but uh, I'd like to think that uh he was just my my guardian alien giving me a visit.
That's amazing. I don't know anybody else that can say they've met an alien and had a connection with an alien. Can you give us your best alien face?
It's kind of they're just kinda like like big eyes and you know, everything else is small. So, how's this? Is that that's that's as good as I can get.
That's perfect. So, cool. Well, we know you're an award-winning actor. But I have to brag because not many actors can also say that they have a series of books that are number one on the children's best-selling list. Yeah. That's incredible. Congratulations.
Thank you. Thank you so much. I appreciate that. Thank you.
I'm amazed because looking at the list, you have your series. Harry Potter and Captain Underpants. And Harry Potter and Captain Underpants are what I grew up with.
Me too. Me too. Yeah. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I feel like like it's like sacrilegious of me to to to be ahead Harry Potter. Yeah. I mean, J. K. Rowling's the reason why I I started writing, and the reason why I started reading as a kid. So, uh I I owe her a lot.
And have you ever had the chance to meet her or speak with her?
I did. Yes, I did. I met her at the White House of all places.
Really?
It sounds like the beginning of a joke too. Like, a kid from Glee and J. K. Rowling are at the White House. You know. She was there to uh to read to the kids. It was a Easter egg roll, and she was there to read for the kids, and we were probably singing and dancing. I thought she was just one of the most beautiful people I'd ever seen. Like, I I feel like an an angelic chorus like saying as she walked through the door.
I remember you were saying you you've been a storyteller your whole life. Now that you have your own series, has there been anything that's maybe challenged you or has surprised you about the creative process?
Oh, gosh. Absolutely. It was really difficult when when my first book came out because a lot of people weren't very accepting of you know, a a celebrity actor writing. And you know, there was there was a lot of um people who thought that you know, my books were written by ghostwriters, which which which they weren't.
Not true. Not true. Which is funny because you were technically a writer before you were an actor, right? You've been writing your whole life.
Yeah. Yeah. I've been doing that. Right. Right. But you know, it's it's it's difficult for people to think of someone, you know, especially someone that comes into their homes every week as anything else but you know, what they see. But I'd been writing just for just as long as as I'd been performing as a kid.
If you personally could go into any storyline or meet any character, who would you personally?
I would not go into Harry Potter. Absolutely not. Like, are you kidding? Like,
But you have the sword thing down.
I have the side sword. But that's like nothing competing like a a wizard that could kill you with one one flick of the wrist. I enjoy that world, but please don't send me in that world.
Yeah. That's perfect. Well, thanks so much for joining us and sharing that with us.
Yeah, of course. Yeah, thank you.
