Hey guys, it's Audrey with Justin Prentice from Netflix's 13 Reasons Why.
The very lovely and friendly Justin Prentice, might I add.
Thank you so much for adding that.
You're welcome.
I feel like I have to add that in there. Uh for for reasons Yeah. Anybody would know from the show. Uh but before we get into that, nice manicure, by the way.
Yeah, you know, still rocking the shade of blue.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, from the show. From the premiere, yeah. We did the premiere. The the cast, we all did it. Writers, producers. We all painted our nails blue.
And how how do you feel about your your Is this your first manicure? Have you
I wish I could say yes.
So you're regular.
Yeah, no, do it, uh, do it all the time. I have had my nails painted before, but it's been a long time.
Okay. Your character in 13 Reasons Why, uh, calling him unlikable, I feel, is even nice, I guess. Uh, it's kind of put- putting it lightly.
Yeah.
Uh, what was it like taking on the role of Bryce and what drew you to him?
Yeah, well, I mean, I love playing as an actor, I love playing characters that aren't me, so I get to I get to kind of stretch, which was nice. But, yeah, I mean, I I did a lot of research. I really wanted to kind of get it right. We We had a lot of experts on the set, around the set, um, so I made a lot of phone calls to psychiatrists and sexual assault experts and everything uh to kind of get a lock on who he is as a person and how he's capable of doing what he's doing and And that sort of thing. And I mean, there are challenges, of course, that present itself with that.
You're dealing with some pretty heady stuff in the show, so how did you guys like, you know, just blow off steam when you were shooting?
Uh, we We joked around a lot on on set, when when it wasn't the super dark days and everything.
I was gonna say. Yeah, it wasn't like, cut. Ah, yeah.
No, for for the dark stuff, we kind of stayed in our in our in our element, but, um, but for the lighter days of filming and what not, we were always goofing around and having fun and
You shot up in Northern California, it's beautiful.
Yeah. Oh, it's gorgeous. Yeah. I don't know if the rest of the cast would be as excited as I am about filming up there. I I love it. But I'm also, but again, I'm also a hermit. So we're not in San Francisco. We're like a half an hour, 45 minutes north of San Francisco. Right. So it's, you know, it's a trip with traffic to go into the city.
It's prime hermit time.
Yeah. For me, I'm out in the middle of nowhere. I've got the beautiful life, the countryside. I'm like this is great. And then a lot of the others are like, what the hell do we do here? You know. So
Everything closes at nine, like, this is crazy.
It does. There's that. You wrap late, you're like, we're gonna just eat carrots from the fridge, I guess. There's nowhere to nowhere to go.
Justin's gonna go back to his hotel room and turn out the lights and, uh, just not talk to anybody for a while.
What I do. What I do best.
As an admitted hermit, then, what's your happy place?
I love the woods. I love forests. Like, idealistically long term, I'd love a home in Montana with a with a bunch of acreage and everything. I think that would be awesome.
Wow. Animals? Are we talking animals? Are we talking like Oh, what kinds of animals? Are we talking I could see I could see horses. I'm a total like city person, so I'm like an Emu.
Yeah. Emus. All all kinds of Emus. I'm with it. An ostrich, maybe?
Yeah.
I like to ride ostriches, because they're fast and it's intimidating to people.
I don't even know if you're joking or not right now.
It's usually how I answer my door. It's it's on an ostrich. Someone comes over and visits. So like, what do you want?
That seems involved.
Well, I'm a hermit, so it's intimidating. And then they usually go away because I have an ostrich.
