Tell me about your audition process for that, because wasn't it like a crazy story of what you had to do?
A little bit, yeah. They were basically like eight dudes. All different types of dudes, really big dudes, most of them are pretty muscular cuz you know, they're playing Rocky, and they were all oiled up to make their abs look really slick and like sexy. And I had to sing Touch me and like crawl all over them and improvize this whole number and
What a horrible job.
It was terrible. One of the worst days of my life, really. But someone has to do it. And that's fine.
Hey guys, it's Tracy in the Young Hollywood studio and I am sitting with the beautiful Victoria Justice.
Oh, you're so sweet.
I think the last time I saw you was at your birthday party. We were just talking about and it was like 20th.
Yeah, my 20th.
20th. Yes. And you were wearing like the most amazing you always look amazing, by the way, but I just remember your dress was like this sparkly silver cut-out and I was like I need that dress. I need that dress.
Thank you. It was.
But so much has happened since I saw you at your 20th birthday. I mean you're first of all I saw that you were at Comic-Con. We were just there.
Oh, you were? Oh, cool.
And that was your first time?
It was my first time. Yeah. It was a lot.
Crazy, right?
It was it was pretty crazy. I actually expected to see more people dressed up and I didn't see as many people as I would have liked to. But I did see like a few people that were in like full on zombie get-ups that were completely in character and did not break. That was pretty entertaining. But yeah, it was awesome. We showed the first 25 minutes of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and it was cool to have the fans there and to see their reaction and they were like cheering and doing some of the call outs and it was really cool.
Is it crazy though? Cuz The Rocky Horror Picture Show I mean it's like iconic. I mean that's like Did you Had you already seen it before you knew you were going to be?
Of course.
Okay, so you were a fan?
I was already a huge fan. I saw it for the first time when I was in fifth grade. Which is probably a little young to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show. But I loved it. And then when I was 15, I went to my first midnight showing with my mom actually and then my friend, Avan Jogia and his mom and then my friend, Josh Hutcherson and this other girl, Cassie LaRocca, we all went together. And it was such a crazy experience.
What is the experience? Cuz it it is an experience. Like for people who don't know?
It's totally an experience. So, basically hardcore fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will dress up as the different characters and usually there's a shadow cast. So like you're watching the movie and then there are actual people that are acting out the film. And then there are call outs. So the audience for the entire movie have basically their own script of things that they yell back at the screen. They're It's so interactive. They'll like throw toilet paper when it's like the wedding scene and like they grab newspapers and put it over their head when Susan Sarandon was singing over at the Frankenstein place. They get really, really into it. And this has been going on for over 40 years now. So
So crazy.
It's really crazy. The costumes everything. I think it kind of like almost led the way for a lot of like new musicians to like wear like the fishnets and like the dyed hair.
I think so.
It was pretty groundbreaking at the time, you know. Tim Curry singing Sweet Transvestite and I actually heard that Mick Jagger got a little bit of his swagger for his walk was from watching Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Yeah. That's crazy. And then the Time Warp song Let's do the time warp again. Just a jump to the left. And then it says to the right. It's like any anytime I go to like any kind of party or dance party when that song comes on, it's just like everyone goes into the dance floor, right?
Oh, yeah. You you have to. It's infectious. It's like
It's infectious.
And then tell me about your audition process for that, because wasn't it like a crazy story of what you had to do?
A little bit. Yeah. I mean I definitely they did not just hand it to me. I had to work to get the role, which I'm pretty proud of because I I know they saw a lot of people so I just feel so lucky to be a part of it. And my first audition, it was just me.
I mean, it was a little risque, right? For what you
It was a little risque. Yeah, my first audition was was I was just in my normal clothes and I sang a little snippet of Ex's & Oh's by Elle King because they wanted to hear my voice. Okay. And I did like the bedroom scene. And then for my screen test, they wanted me to come in in Janet wardrobe. So in one scene, I had like her little pink dress on. I got something at Forever 21 that looked really similar to it. And then for the next part, when I was singing Touch Me, they had me perform the whole song and that's when I stripped down to my bra and a little slip and a pair of high heels.
And didn't weren't there like apparently I think I saw that you said there were like oily men there.
Oh, yes. And then Yeah, that was Yes. After that screen test and then I actually got the role and that's when I had to read different Rocky's and they were basically like eight dudes. All different types of dudes, really big dudes, most of them are pretty muscular because, you know, they're playing Rocky. And they were all oiled up to make their abs look really slick and like sexy. And I had to sing Touch Me and like crawl all over them and improvise this whole number and
What a horrible job.
It was terrible. One of the worst days of my life, really. But someone has to do it. And that's fine.
That's fine. Have you ever like Cuz I mean coming from like Nickelodeon, Victorious like that was definitely a departure from what you've done in the past. Right?
Well, do you think it's a departure? No, just kidding. I'm of course. I know. So
Okay. So you weren't like nervous about it. You were like I got this. Like
No, I think I was really excited about it. Because you know I'm 23 now. It's not behind you. Yeah. No. I mean, coming from Nickelodeon, I actually did a show on MTV called Eye Candy that I did one season of. But that was more mature and definitely sexier. And I think I was in my bra one or two times on that show. So, you know, I'm more mature. I've grown up. I think the fans have grown up with me and I'm ready to embrace that that side of myself, you know? It's really It was really fun. I had a great time.
And it's going to be like a musical TV movie. So is it going to be like interactive with the audience like how the original was or what can people expect?
Yeah. Well, I mean, I think what people can expect is that it's the same script as the original film. So we're not changing anything in that sense. And I'm and all the music's the same. But there's new choreography and new costumes and we're really paying homage to the legacy of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and we're honoring the fans that have supported it for so many years. So that's really cool. And you know, I don't want to give too much away. But there's some really cool things that Kenny Ortega chose to do as far as incorporating the fans. And we actually have the president of The Rocky Horror fan club. His name is Sal. Plays the photographer when at the very beginning wedding scene where he's like everybody, mothers and daughters, get in whatever he says. And then Tim Curry, who played the original Dr. Frank-N-Furter, is coming back now and playing the narrator, which is
Oh my god.
so cool to have that full circle and to have him give his blessing to the project that catapulted him is really incredible.
I was so starstruck and fangirl. I was going to say did they give you any like advice or any insight into like the character Janet like what you should do or you sort of I mean
No, not really. I kind of just figured that out on my own. And you know, I watched the movie a bunch of times, but I didn't want to have it I didn't want to be so familiar with it that I was copying what Susan did. You know, I wanted to make my own choices and find new things. So I feel like I was able to do that and I'm really I'm really proud of the film and just working with such an incredible cast. Oh, I love them so much. They're so insanely talented and such good people. Like we've all become really good friends. So I'm just so grateful for the entire opportunity.
I can't wait. And then another thing you're just happening to do is you're hosting the Teen Choice Awards this weekend.
I am. Yep. No big deal.
No big deal at all. I'll be co-hosting with John Cena. Which by the way is definitely an interesting pairing. Like
It is.
Cuz you did a Snapchat and you did like a face swap with him.
I did. Yeah.
Did you And you did a good impersonation. I have to.
Did I really? I was winging that one.
I was going to say did you know exactly how he sounded? Or you
No, not at all, actually. I don't I don't really watch wrestling, so I'm not really aware of that world. But I've heard from everyone that I've talked to that he's one of the nicest guys. Everyone only has you know people only have the kindest things to say about him that he's so sweet. You're going to love him. And he's really funny too. Like I've saw I saw him on Maya & Marty a little while ago and he was hilarious. And in Trainwreck, of course, he's super funny.
Are you nervous at all about like This Is this your first like huge hosting gig? Of course. Okay, it's your
Yeah. Yeah, it's my first.
You're going to kill it though. Let's just be honest. Let's be honest.
Thanks. You know, fingers crossed. It's a live show. So anything can happen. But it's going to be really fun. And I think John and I have have some fun.
Okay, can you give us any dialogue and skits that we're kind of planning out?
I can't give anything away now.
You can't give anything away. Come on, just like a little hint. Like what are you doing?
No, and it's still actually it hasn't even been finalized yet. So I haven't gone into rehearsals yet or anything. So I don't even know for sure what they're keeping. But all I know is that we're just going to have a good time and kind of make you know, laugh at ourselves and
And then you tweeted a picture of your wardrobe. Can you give any hints about your outfit? Change cuz you're going to I'm assuming you're going to wear like a million different outfits and you're going to look amazing. Oh, I'm so excited. So did you get to pick out your outfit or Okay.
I did. Yeah. I have about like four or five different looks that I'm going to wear during the show. And all those looks are so cute and they're really different from each other, which I love. On the red carpet, I'm going to be wearing Versace and then during the show, I'm wearing an H&M dress. All types of different stuff. So it's going to be really fun.
Well, you look amazing in everything. I mean.
Hey, you're so sweet.
Are you like super excited to see anyone in particular at Teen Choice Awards? Like who do you fan girl over? Like if you met somebody that you haven't met yet? Yeah. Is there somebody that you're looking forward to meeting? You like everyone.
Oh, my god. I'm going to say I'm going to think. I mean, like I've been in this business for a long time. So it takes a lot for me to get starstruck because you know, people are people and we're all just doing our thing. But I don't know. You know, I actually met Justin Timberlake when I was 13. I was I went to the premiere of the third Shrek film or something that he was in. And I was on the red carpet and my publicist asked if I could take a picture with him and then his publicist was like no, no, no. He has to go. And then he saw me and he was like no, no, it's fine. I'll take a picture with her, which was so sweet. So I have a picture from then and I would love to take another picture with him now. Like so many years later and, you know, he's totally an inspiration and so talented. He's been able to do, you know, acting and music, which is something two things that I would love to be able to do. So that would be really cool. So we're going to have to make that happen. I think I
Yeah, I guess we can make that happen. That's going to have to happen in the Teen Choice Awards. That's the plan. So make sure and stay tuned. Don't forget to check out Victoria Justice this weekend on Teen Choice Awards.
Yeah. And The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Yes. You'll kill it.
Thank you. I'm not not worried.
You love SpongeBob.
I do. Yeah. I mean I was part of the Nickelodeon family, so I feel like I would be betraying my own roots if I said that I didn't like SpongeBob.
Can you do his laugh? He goes like this. He like
Yeah, that's what he does. Yeah, I know that. And like Sandy, I can't really do it but Yeah. That's the one. Sandy.
Bye, Patrick.
Bye.
