Jackie Karsch here with Young Hollywood. I'm sitting down now with Nolan Gould from ABC's Modern Family and you just wrapped filming in the Bahamas. I saw a little picture on Instagram.

Oh, yes. Uh, we weren't filming. That was actually a like a TV family vacation with me and my TV sister Ariel Winter.

Wait, seriously?

Yeah.

You guys vacation together.

We just went on like a family vacation. It was like our first time like ever like traveling together outside of the show and it was so fun. It was me, her, her boyfriend and like all of our friends just like hanging out in the Bahamas.

What about the rest of the cast? Are you vacationing with Julie Bowen?

Oh my god, that would be so fun. It really would. The problem is she has like three like really young boys. So it basically be me babysitting them like the whole time.

So I saw on the Instagram post that you posted, you were like jacked.

Oh. Seriously. Oh, thank you.

Do you work out?

Uh, yeah. I do work out. Um, and that was like I didn't post that photo like getting this kind of that recognition, but it was like so weird for me like He was commenting and reading the articles. Yeah, like I still like an article that said like Nolan Gould shows off his like countless hours at the gym with his like rock hard beach bod. I was like, okay, like thank you. Let's calm down there. I'm not a hard beach bod. Okay.

Yeah, people were posting the emoji with the arm when you get that. That that's that's how you know. That's high praise. That's high praise. So what can we expect from your character for the next season?

Um, next season, I'm not sure yet. They don't ever tell me what's going on probably cuz I'd come to Young Hollywood and just gossip all about it. But the rest of this season, Luke's actually got a lot coming up. Um, this has kind of been like the trouble season for Luke. Luke's getting like so much trouble. He got arrested, he threw a party, and in our season finale, there's gonna be like another big ordeal that the family is gonna have to go through and it's actually kinda sweet because like we see this uh side of Luke and Phil's relationship that we've never actually seen before. Like it was almost like an emotional roller coaster for me like and their last like the shot of the episode like I wanted to cry. Like it was such a thing.

Nolan, you play the adorable Luke Dunphy on the show. Yeah. But you also have another role with the Sierra Club, the environmental grassroots organization. Tell me a little about about being their youth ambassador.

Um, basically like when I started on Modern Family, I started working with uh Sierra Club. I'm their youth ambassador. So I do all these really amazing things with Sierra Club. Like a couple weekends ago, it was Earth Day. So, um, I helped Los Angeles, uh underprivileged inner city kids get outdoors. And, um, for a lot of them, it was their first time in nature. And we went to Castaic Lake and we went kayaking and uh it was a lot of fun.

When you take these kids into the wild for the first time, what's that experience like for you as an actor?

It's really amazing like kind of like foster this relationship for, you know, kids in the outdoors. As somebody who's grown up in the outdoors, I get to like encourage it for them and just like show them like how beautiful like nature can be and like how much fun you can have. You know, like no matter like where you came from, no matter like what kind of life you've lived, like nature's always there. There's just amazing place where like you can just leave everything behind and just become like one with like the natural world.

You got involved with this project to save the Grand Canyon.

Yes. Like politically involved. Yeah. Actually I enlisted my uh TV dad's help Ty Burrell. Um, we uh we shot this video with Funny or Die. What the video was for, um, they were thinking people were thinking about building a mega development like right on the Southern Rim of the Grand Canyon, which would like interfere with wildlife, uh drinking water. And it was a 20-year fight and this video actually helped push them over the edge and we were like able to like stop that mega development from happening. That's kinda crazy.

The power of Ty Burrell and you getting into those superhero suits.

Yes, exactly. In our like latex suits. Apparently, we actually do have superpowers.

What would be your ideal prom proposal for a girl?

I would wanna do something like ridiculously over the top. Okay, so like if I'm going to do it, like I'm going to like write a song for you and like stand underneath your window and like with a guitar and like play you a song or something.

Who would be your ideal prom date?

I've kinda got like a woman crush Wednesday, aka like woman crush every day on like Emma Watson.

Emma Watson. Okay. So, some other celebs that you've recently met are like the Dalai Lama.

Yes.

What was that like?

If you don't know like who the Dalai Lama is like you need to go and like listen to his speeches and like read the books he's written because he's such an interesting and amazing individual. Like he's one of the people that gives me hope in this world.

Once you get to the Dalai Lama, I know, like where else are you gonna go there? I guess the only other thing would be like the Pope or something because like you're already at the Dalai Lama.

All right, time to make another proposal to the Pope.

What's going on with you in the future?

Like my hope is Modern Family's gonna go on like forever and like Luke's eventually gonna have children. But uh, you know, we know that that's probably not going to happen. So it's definitely on my mind like, what am I gonna do in like the next couple years? I'd really like to try my hand at like producing like my own projects and stuff. So instead of just like waiting around for somebody to bring me something, just like being able to have this idea and like bring it to life and like, you know, something I'm passionate about, like make it into like a show.

One thing I love about you is you've grown up, you know, in front of the public on TV, but you're still so cool, calm and collected. So, do you have any like advice for kids, you know, who are getting into the business about how to grow up normally in front of the TV screens?

I would say, um, you definitely gotta surround yourself with the right people. I'm really fortunate that I have like a great family that just, you know, has always like kept me like level-headed and like on the right path. And like friends that, you know, are just there for me and not like trying to get me to do like bad things and stuff. So.

And if you happen to have a great TV family, that works also.

Exactly. And like I'm so lucky because like it sounds cliche, but we are a gigantic family. Like like a cool family. Like a family you can like talk about stuff with that you can't your actual family. Like I can talk about like girls like Julie and stuff. I can't with my actual mom.
