Hey guys, I'm Molly Argu, here sitting on the Young Hollywood couch with Michael Malarkey, aka Enzo, of course from The Vampire Diaries. Welcome back.

Michael Malarkey

Hello. Thank you very much, to be back.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for being here. Last time in your interview, you were wearing this lower cut shirt with some chest hair, and I have to say I may or may not be a little upset you didn't keep that. You're so stylish and put together. I think it's a British thing, because you're a dual citizen, right? American and British.

Michael Malarkey

I am. I am. Yes, my mother was born and raised in England. And, um, so by default I got a British citizenship as well.

Young Hollywood

Oh, nice. I love it. Well, and as far as fashion goes, I saw this picture of you, you're wearing an all white getup with these pink flower decals all over it. Not many guys can pull off pink flower decals.

Michael Malarkey

Did I?

Young Hollywood

And you pulled it off.

Michael Malarkey

I did. Okay.

Young Hollywood

It looks so good.

Michael Malarkey

Um, Yeah, I mean, that wasn't obviously something I ran to the shop and got, but, um, you know, I was, when you do a shoot, obviously they kind of pull out random things and they were a little nervous with the garish material that they pulled that I I wouldn't, I I would have vetoed it, but I was like, yeah, screw it. Just put me in whatever, let's give it a go.

Young Hollywood

Sometimes it's good to be outside of your comfort zone. I love it. It's a crazy industry and you have to have a thick skin and Yeah, it's true. It's a in the entertainment industry when especially when you're starting, you really have to have that thick skin and like you said, it's probably something you learn as you go along.

Michael Malarkey

Well, you have to deal with it's not really rejection, but not getting the job, you know, which which kind of is a form of rejection, but you have to learn to just kind of like do auditions and forget about them. Yeah. And, you know, not really obsess about, oh god, but I really want that one. You just have to go, you know what? This is a great role. I'm going to do my best and just, you know, to the gods after that.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Well, let the stars align and you're with Vampire Diaries. That that doesn't suck.

Michael Malarkey

No, it's been it's been a great ride. I mean it's it's crazy. We're moving into the final season. It's been a it's been a good run.

Young Hollywood

Absolutely. And we have to talk about it because the final season is here. How has it been to be a part of a show that has had such a massive fanbase?

Michael Malarkey

It's been insane. Yeah. Nothing could have prepared me for this kind of fandom. Right. You know. I mean, I came from a humble theater background in London. And, uh, you know, there's

Young Hollywood

Maybe we should talk with British accents for the rest of the segment. Celebrate. That'll be nice. Like it like a six. Is it? Is it? Five and a half.

Michael Malarkey

Oh, okay. Exactly. Um, Yeah, literally nothing could prepare me for for that kind of onslaught. At the same time, it's it's an incredible thing. I mean, our show has one of the the biggest international reaches of a network TV show. And it's been a really phenomenal way for me to use the platform to get my music out there, which is something that I'm also actively pursuing. I've been a musician since before I was even an actor, and, um, yeah, it's been it's been crazy. It's it's it's a pretty insane behemoth of a show and fanbase, you know.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Absolutely. So you can act, you're fashionable, and you can sing. All guys must hate you.

Michael Malarkey

I can't really dance though. Okay. I mean, give me a few, uh, bevies and I will hit the dance floor. But, uh, I look kind of like Mr. Bean.

Young Hollywood

I love it. I love it. Well, talking about your music because I was reading that obviously before acting you, like you said, you were into music and you were a part of a screamo, heavy metal, punk rock band. I can't quite picture that. Did you get the headbang down? Did you not do the headbang?

Michael Malarkey

Oh, hell yeah. Hell yeah. I would literally

Young Hollywood

You teach me how to do the headbang.

Michael Malarkey

Well, I had hair down to here.

Young Hollywood

No way.

Michael Malarkey

And it was longer than yours. I had a goatee. And hair is a necessity for a headbang really. I mean, it's literally you know.

Young Hollywood

Should we try? Hang on, wait. No, you're going to hear a spray. No.

Michael Malarkey

Yeah, I wouldn't. Yeah, I would get it. You you have to really let it go. You have to literally flail your neck.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, there you go. You got it. Is that good? Perfect. Okay. Do I need hairspray?

Michael Malarkey

Nope. You're good.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, and so everything's kind of come full circle for you now. Started with music. Do you have a hint or a little tease of maybe the first single?

Michael Malarkey

It's got a moody folk indie vibe, kind of Nick Cave trapped in a 60s pop world. That's all I'll say.

Young Hollywood

Mic drop. Check it out. Mic drop.
