Karan Brar

I probably my favorite meal would uh have to be pancakes and uh chocolate. Uh probably chocolate chip pancakes. uh you know, very simple. Uh it uh tends to be difficult to make because I forget the canola oil occasionally and it just sticks on the pan.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, my really horrible British accent. No, I like it.

Karan Brar

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

You know him as Ravi from Jessie and now Bunked. My guest today, Karan Brar.

Karan Brar

Hello. Thank you guys for having me by the way.

Young Hollywood

Well thank you for coming by. I know you're very busy. I mean this, I have to say like this has been worth it cause like guys for those of you watching like this is extremely fancy like I heard T-pain was here before.

Karan Brar

A little bit, yeah, maybe.

Young Hollywood

A little bit. So you are sitting in a very very special spot. So take advantage. Please yes, revel. Lean back. Where's your chain? Where's your You need a chain in here somewhere.

Karan Brar

I feel like I'm living up to it. See I can't compete with that much. I mean I mean who really can, right? I brought the white vans right?

Young Hollywood

Oh yeah, there you go. There you go. Dang it, you're right. You might get into Diddy's white party. I mean we don't know.

Karan Brar

Exactly.

Young Hollywood

But you might get in. Also because you were the first Indian American star on Disney Channel prime time. That is huge. Do you ever stop and and think about just how important that is?

Karan Brar

It's pretty cool cause it's like, you know, we're expanding people's cultural horizons and boundaries and introducing people to new cultures and, you know, I think it's fun being able to educate people on my culture and, you know, where my family comes from.

Young Hollywood

Where are you from originally? You were from like Like you're

Karan Brar

I'm originally from Bothell, Washington. So I'm like in this like small town. So there's nothing interesting about me.

Young Hollywood

Are you saying like like Redmond, Washington? around that area, right?

Karan Brar

Exactly. So like a really really small town.

Young Hollywood

So you're educating everybody about Redmond, Washington.

Karan Brar

Yeah, Redmond, Washington. So guys, usually it's about like mid fifties, sixties there.

Young Hollywood

It's a beautiful surprise that you don't actually have an accent when they meet you. I mean you do it very very well on the on the show. But I mean like I mean it's not how you sound.

Karan Brar

I mean a lot of kids actually refuse to believe it's me. Cause they'll be like, "Hey are you from Jessie?" And I'm like, "Yeah that's me." They're like, "No." They're like, "Stop lying." And I'm like,

Young Hollywood

You're like, "No way, it's me." You're like, "I'm the real it's Karan actually."

Karan Brar

Please like I I will try.

Young Hollywood

Yes this is what he sounds like everybody.

Karan Brar

Exactly.

Young Hollywood

Um speaking of Jessie and now Bunked, how fun has it been to transition from one show to the next?

Karan Brar

I think it's really cool cause it gives us some space to expand the characters and, you know, um instead of like uh letting the characters like prosper in like the penthouse, we get to take them out of their natural environment and just throw them in a camp where it's like nasty. Like downgrade a little bit, right?

Young Hollywood

Exactly. You got to downgrade to upgrade, right? Like I like that. Downgrade to upgrade.

Karan Brar

So, I mean, it's fun cause we get to add like, you know, our own stories. Like a lot of the writers put in their own stories into uh like into the storylines. Like we have an ongoing joke, one of our writers who went to a uh place called Camp Champion. So we call it Camp Champion all the time. You have to say it like that.

Young Hollywood

Exactly. Always.

Karan Brar

It's like, "Hey Eric, how are you doing?" And what we did is like we wrote that into the show. So our rivaling uh camp is called Camp Champion. So you know we try to sneak things in there.

Young Hollywood

Nice. And you also had a camp experience, right?

Karan Brar

Oh yeah, mine wasn't as good though. I I could

Young Hollywood

Can you please share with us your camp experience? Cause like

Karan Brar

So like I grew up in like all I went to was like elementary school and then sixth grade for middle school. Okay. So my our big thing in fifth grade was like, "You're going on a camping trip guys." Like.

Young Hollywood

Like was this real camping or was this like glamping? Like you were like

Karan Brar

Um it was like it was I want to say it was glamping cause it's not like we were like intense or anything. We were in like pretty nice cabins. Okay. So, you know, we're out there. It's like raining. We got to uh submit cards of who we wanted to share, you know, um our cabins with. And I was a nerdy guy so like me and all my friends who are also very much nerds we ended up in the Panther cabin. And all like the cool like, you know, jocks also like they're all super nice guys like disclaimer like before I get deeper into this story. They're all like really nice guys. Yeah, okay. But uh the Wolf cabin was right next to us so to pull a prank they actually got dirt and they put it in our bunks.

Young Hollywood

No.

Karan Brar

It was like it wasn't that bad but it was a pretty funny prank. Like we were trying to pull pranks without getting in trouble and then the principal had to come who was like, "Guys, you got to Yeah. Shut You got to shut this down. You got to shut this down."

Young Hollywood

Well I want to get to know you a little bit better. I know you're really big on social media. What's your favorite social media platform right now?

Karan Brar

Ooh, uh I have to say Twitter. Cause that's like the first real platform that I just fell in love with. So like Twitter is like

Young Hollywood

What's your um most used hashtag on Twitter?

Karan Brar

Um Camp Champion. Camp Champion. No doubt.

Young Hollywood

Uh circle back to Camp Champion whenever. This is This is going to be in my head all day so thank you for that.

Karan Brar

No, of course. Anytime. Um I don't know I probably like at most I'd hashtag my own show, Jessie or Bunked. As horrible as that sounds. But like I'm like, is this too many hashtags? Am I using less hashtag? It's too much trouble. So like most of the time I don't use hashtags.

Young Hollywood

I'm glad I'm not the only one who like overthinks the hashtagging. We're on the same page. Okay.

Karan Brar

Exactly. We're just over-

Young Hollywood

Throw that out there. Here we go. Nice. Um what's your favorite snack when you're on set?

Karan Brar

Ooh, JoJo's from Trader uh Trader Joe's.

Young Hollywood

Those are the JoJo's?

Karan Brar

They're like the organic Oreos from Trader.

Young Hollywood

Why do you give the name of the place?

Karan Brar

So see I want to like semi-feel good about myself Uh huh. on set and like eating junk food. So I try to go with the organic Oreos which is the JoJo's. Okay. Oh yeah. You're kidding. So, see imagine eating an Oreo. I yes. Okay. So like five seconds in. You're like you feel really bad about yourself. And then if you eat a JoJo you add like,

Young Hollywood

Well you feel bad about yourself if you're doing it wrong.

Karan Brar

Really?

Young Hollywood

Is there a way to do it right?

Karan Brar

You just ignore the fact that you're eating Oreos and you pretend. Okay. I'm going back to Oreos now. That is like Yeah, that's you pretend that it's like, you know, a granola bar. And you're like, "This granola bar is great. I feel awesome."

Young Hollywood

There we go. No regrets. No regrets. Hashtag no regrets.

Karan Brar

Exactly. Hashtag blessed. Exactly.

Young Hollywood

Um hashtag Oreos. Hashtag Oreo life. I like that one. We need to get that started. If you could remake any TV show or movie, what would it be?

Karan Brar

Probably what we did was uh we remade Alfred Hitchcock's uh what's it called Rear Window? So we did like a spoof of it. Yeah, it was a real throwback. And um I just did it for an episode and I watched uh the entire film. Cause I accidentally got a hold of it. And um I fell in love with it. So I

Young Hollywood

How do you accidentally get a hold of it?

Karan Brar

Cause they were supposed to give it to Peyton and Cameron cause they were in the storyline. Oh. Oops. And then they accidentally gave it to me and I was like, "Free movie. Why not?"

Young Hollywood

Exactly. So so you would like to remake that.

Karan Brar

Yeah. I mean it's really awesome. It's a classic. So I mean and Alfred Hitchcock is a genius. So.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. You are so great at doing Ravi's accent. But I want to give you a chance to showcase other accents that you can do. So I want to do a little thing called musical accents. Okay. Challenge here is don't do Robbie's accent. And tell me your like dream meal to me. Okay. So when I snap though, I have to go into it. You have to go into an accent. And then if you snap again I have to get out of it. Okay. So I can only do like one other accent. Okay. Well then we'll do that okay. Um so describe to me like what's your what's your like favorite meal?

Karan Brar

Um by the way I haven't done this in a while. Um probably my favorite meal would uh have to be pancakes and uh chocolate. Uh probably chocolate chip pancakes. Uh you know, very simple. Uh it uh tends to be difficult to make because I forget the canola oil occasionally and it just sticks on the pan. But uh you know, then uh it just gets a new pan. I don't know where I'm going with the story but I'm just trying to like keep the accent going. So uh improvising improvising.

Young Hollywood

I love it. I love it. That was so that that was your uh I guess your British accent.

Karan Brar

Yeah my British a really horrible British accent.

Young Hollywood

No, I like it. Thank you. Karan this was so much fun.

Karan Brar

Thank you guys so much for having me. This was so chill.

Karan Brar

Well is there anything that you want to take cause you have a lot of things. I just I probably will just like yeah. I'll just Okay. Okay, bye. Peace. I'll just And there's okay. Probably have to stay here til we're done.
