So I thought we would capitalize on some of your doodling skills. I'm going to just throw you a couple names. Bobby Cannavale.
Oh boy. Here we go. That's a mullet. I'm sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be looking but like Bobby, you're gonna hate me for this.
Hey guys, Audrey here from HBO's Vinyl. Jack Quaid.
Hello. Hello.
Yes, please, do you miss. To the massive crowd. Yes, all 10 of you in here. But everybody else on the internet who's watching this, right?
Hello. Of course. Hello internet.
When you Google your name, which I'm sure you do or maybe don't. It's like it's like 24/7 with.
Yeah, all the time, right? That's healthy. It's definitely healthy. My mind is at ease.
People still know you from this little movie called The Hunger Games. This tiny little indie flick. This teeny little movie. But people are like, you know Jack Quaid. Like he doesn't look like how he looked like in The Hunger Games anymore. Like that's yeah. That's like how aging works.
So yeah, and it worked out. It's just a little. Yeah, my hair's longer in this, it was shorter in that. There are some differences definitely. People change. People change. I've grown as a person. I like to hope physically, emotionally. I think I'm I think I'm doing better.
Helping that, I'm sure is the fact that on Vinyl you are working with, oh you know, Martin Scorsese.
It's been insane. Yeah. Mick Jagger. Terence Winter. Oh my God, these just three heroes of mine and the fact that like I got to go to work with these people. I'm still freakin I'm still geeking out about it. Like guys it's just been a crazy ride.
And how much of this world did you know before? Just I mean I know you've grown up in Hollywood, you've been around movies and film but but what about music?
Well with music, see I I grew up in the 90s and that's kind of when like boy bands were the craze but I was never into them to the point where I I got a.
Really?
I wasn't. All of my friends were though. Like guys and girls were both like severely into severely severely into *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. It was just like, oh man they were they were sick. Now it was. But like I wasn't so and I got very upset that I wasn't, you know I was like, why? Why can't I get into Backstreet Boys?
And then to kinda come back to that. I like to think that was your 90s existential crisis. It's like why? Why isn't this Why doesn't it do it for me?
But then like I listened to uh music like Classic Rock and that was kind of where I started my musical education. I grew up with that music so to be on a show that focuses on that genre. it's insane.
Do you feel like you've been able to apply some of that love to the show then?
Definitely. No, I mean there were times where like I'd read scripts and and see like you know, oh we're going to have a guy playing such and such in the next episode. I'd be like, such and such, I know such and such. I know such and such. I'm just tryin' not to give anything away right now. No, okay.
You grew up in Hollywood. Uh you grew up around this the industry as as people call it. Just because your parents happened to be, oh I don't know, Meg Ryan and and you know.
Are they? Oh yeah, yeah, no they're. Yeah. You know, yeah, I don't know if you know but. I I should know.
Now did they encourage you to pursue acting?
They didn't really encourage it or uh try to persuade me against it. I got the performing bug somewhere in my childhood like I was always into like doing magic tricks for people and stuff like that.
Really?
Nothing good. Nothing like.
Like what was your signature trick? Do you still remember it?
Like um like no, it was just this. It was like, you see this pillow? Now close your eyes. Open 'em. Applaud, I'm five years old. Yeah, no, it's that's all it is. Oh, that's the worst.
Now the slow clap. There you go. Oh, look how I feel right now. This is just shame. Oh, look it's your self esteem, it's on the floor.
Oh hi. No I'll leave you down there. I remember I did my first like play where I like stayed after school, I got my first laugh on stage and I was like, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Like that was the best feeling.
Did you ever have a backup plan?
No. I'm just now realizing that.
Like you said something about being like a lawyer or you know like maybe toying with that idea.
I had vaguely maybe try to be like a wildlife photographer cuz you get to travel. That sounds fun. Slash dangerous.
Dangerous.
Like that was the thing like I don't want to get eaten. Like the fun kind of dangerous.
Yeah, it's a fun kind of dangerous. Or it's like you tell stories in bars afterwards like yeah I lost this arm to a shark I was trying to photograph or whatever, you know.
I it was either that or. It could be like really cool stories or it could be like The Revenant and you're like.
Exactly.
Yeah, bear fights.
You also doodle.
I doodle.
You doodle. So I thought we would capitalize on some of your doodling skills.
Improv doodling skills.
Improv doodling skills. I have a pen and a couple note cards. I'm gonna just throw you a couple names.
Oh boy.
And if you can just just go wherever the inspiration takes you. Bobby Cannavale.
Oh boy, here we go. Okay.
And keep it, keep it G PG rated.
Of course. Maybe PG 13. I mean usually when I start doodling, uh I start with the eyes. They do look like initially but that is not that is not the case. That's a mullet. I'm sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be looking but like. Oh man, this is going. Bobby, you're gonna hate me for this. I swear to God this isn't you.
Let me throw you another one. Oh oh God. Olivia Wilde.
Olivia Wilde. Oh no.
You should charge people for this. I am super impressed right now. You look like the Gary Larson of actors. You don't. What are you draw Oh those eyes. No, no, guys. Look, I warned you.
I know it's Olivia because you put eyelashes on her.
I did. Yeah. No one else has eyelashes besides Olivia Wilde.
Exactly. Yeah. That's how you know it's a girl.
That's how you know it's a girl. Everyone's gonna hate me after this drawing. That's what's gonna happen. Oh.
I really like that she looks like, do you remember Cathy? From Oh no. No. Okay. Anybody? This is pretty good. Olivia Wilde, one of the most beautiful people in the entire world, Cathy. I've made the connection and I, oh no this isn't good.
I love it.
Really quick before we go. I have a game for you, it's called Heard It Through The Grape Vinyl. So true or false, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin once said he wanted to work in biological research.
I'm gonna say true.
It is true. Nicely done. He said it when he was like 13. Really? On a talent show. Who inspired the Rolling Stones name? Was it A, Muddy Waters, B, B. B. King, C, Bob Dylan?
It's Muddy Waters.
Perfect. Two two for two. Okay. All right, here's the clincher. About your boss, one of your bosses.
Oh no.
True or false. The Queen of England personally knighted Sir Mick Jagger, aka your boss in 2003.
I know he was knighted. Yes, you should call him Sir. I should call him Sir. He should also walk through set with a sword all the time. He really should. That's what I would do. That'd be enjoyable for me. Um can I keep these? Do this for me, man. Uh I'm gonna say it's a trick question. I'm gonna say false he was not personally knighted.
Yeah. Okay, so so here's what happened. Prince Charles actually did it. The rumor is The Queen disagreed with Mick's anti-establishment views. Oh. That's the rumor. According to the internet.
Really? Well, look who came out on top.
I know. I don't know. The Queen of England, Mick Jagger, I think they're both doing well. I know. But if if he carries around a sword on set, I mean then you come out on top.
Yeah. That's a good life thing.
Hey, this was awesome. So much fun. Thank you. Wait, look at my elbow. Oh my God. Hold on. That was all me. She was doing great. I messed up. Fantastic. Um, can I keep these?
Please keep them. Please? They're gonna be worth. I don't know. They're worth nothing.
I would I would pay $10 for these and I would pay cash. So. They're worth something. Okay. $10, at least $20 for me. Fantastic. Please come back.
Of course. Thank you. This was so much fun.
