Are you feeling it? You should see what's going on behind you right now. Your name just your name as I just said that, just there you go. But you look terrific. And I And but I I have to say that whenever any British people come in here, they're usually better dressed than American men. Is that right? Or a little sort of too uncomfortable because the jeans are too tight. Are they really tight?

Yeah, they're very tight. So you know when women wear skinny jeans, you know exactly what they're feeling.

I do. I do. In fact, I was putting these on this morning, my wife was like, that's what I look like when I'm putting on jeans because they took some effort. Hold on, cuz girls do this thing where they lay down and then they do the coat hanger.

I didn't lay down. No coat hanger, but I was like, ah.

And then But David, if I may, you have to have a certain physique to pull off what you're wearing. Right.

Yeah. Um, I don't know what well, that's kind of just with the job, you know, just getting up early and doing a few push-ups.

I don't normally ask tips, but what are you how much how much working out are you actually doing?

Um, it depends if I'm working or not. If I'm working, then it's probably like five to six times a week.

Wow.

If I'm not working and it's Christmas, then you're having a pint at the pub in London.

Yeah. So where's your accent from? Cuz I know there's different um English accents. Yeah, and yours sounds very posh.

It is from London. I'm a Londoner. I guess you get a little bit affected when you go to drama school and stuff cuz they want you to speak well so people can understand you.

So Can you do different regions? Can you do different

A little bit. I'm not brilliant at different regions around Britain. I tend to do British in America.

Yeah. Thank you. I know we know you from films a lot. You've done Dark Knight, Interstellar, you did you know, you've had a lot of these film roles. Going to TV, how was the switch?

I remember the first read through we had. Julie Plec was um telling us how it was going to run. And she was saying, so, you know, we're going to film each episode over seven days. And everyone was like, yeah. I was thinking, seven days. Wow. And so then she finished talking and I said, sorry, just to clarify. So then we have a week off to prepare for the next. And everyone sort of thought, who's this newcomer? And Julie Plec, yeah, what is he talking about? And Julie was like, no, you go straight in. So you're preparing the next episode as you're as you're working. And also, you know, for film and theater, you get the whole script before you even start rehearsing. Exactly. you build that arc. And then suddenly you're on a show where scripts are coming as you're working. It's it's a different

This is containment. There are viruses going on. I mean, you don't know where you're going to be in the next if if you're going to be in the next episode.

Exactly. You really don't. So when that script comes in, you cannot have a bad day at work. You cannot have a bad day at work. And it is you think, okay, that person coughed near me in the last episode. What does that mean?

I know you've talked a little bit about, you know, this obviously makes you aware of germs. You know,

Yeah. Yeah.

things that can happen. I tend to be a huge germaphobe.

Mhm.

Has this made you more aware and more so or less so or

So my my wife was is real kind of she has the Purell and she's always with the kids. I was before containment I was like, don't need that, you know, when I was young, I used to roll about in the mud and our sweets would drop and then we'd pick them up and eat them. I started doing this show and I was like, do you have some because seriously, bring that bring that in before we do every single thing. Touch that table and these cuz people are quite filthy, I think.

People are quite filthy, that what a statement.

I really think so. I like you never know who you're encountering, what they've touched before they touch you.

Yeah. See, I never used to think on that level. I'm a I'm a big hugger, so I just go straight in. But I feel like hugging's safer than than like the kiss on the cheek, then the shaking hands.

Yeah.

So, I should explain this. So, I'm not I I should explain. So, we're in this car and this driver starts coughing profusely. Really coughing. And someone offers him a mint. And he's I can see the spit on his hand and he goes in and takes a mint. And then she offers it to everyone else in this car. And I was right at the back of the car. And they're all taking it. And then it comes to me. And I think, I can't you know, I so I'm sort of trying to get it with my elbows and flick it. And it was just

Can I show you the trick? Yeah. You hold your hand out like this. And then the person is forced to do that. To do that. But then what if you can't have What if somebody other filthy animal went in there with their Yeah. And touch that. I'm done with the rest of the interview because now you're going to have a mint in your mouth. I have a little challenge for you. Okay. Because I know as an actor, you're asked to do a lot of things. Were you faking things? I mean, if you're if you're really an actor, you're really believing or you whatever your process is. But I think one of the hardest things to fake is a sneeze. So I want to challenge you Yeah. to go out. And sneeze. The sneezing contest. Between you and I. Okay. Just do it. Oh, I'm going first. You go first. You go first.
