Dustin Lynch Performs Live

What's up everybody? I'm Dustin Lynch and this is a song I wrote about my grandma and granddad. It's called "Cowboys and Angels." There's a want and there's a need. There's a history between.

Young Hollywood

Hey guys. I'm Brandy Chang here in the Young Hollywood studio with Dustin Lynch. Hi Dustin.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

This is awesome. Thanks for having me in.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for coming. Good. You just performed two amazing songs. The first song I love because it's pretty sentimental to you, right?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

It is. Yeah. Cowboys and Angels. I wrote with my grandparents in mind. They're, they've been married 61 years this year. Wow. Their love story is inspiring and um, so a very special song. I, I didn't realize it'd ever get to see the light of day. It ended up being my first single and changed my life completely. I've got boots and she's got wings. I'm hell on wheels and she's heavenly. I die for her and she lives for me. Cowboys and Angels.

Young Hollywood

Do you remember the first time that you sat down and played it for your grandparents? What was that like?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

It was tough. It really was. Yeah. I still get teared up when they're in the crowd and I have to play it.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. There was not a dry eye in here while you were performing that by the way. Guys, girls, all of us. It was very, very sweet. That's what I love about country music. I feel like the lyrics really touch people and it's really relatable and I think that your lyrics do such a great job of that.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

And then your second song that you performed too, I feel like it was just feel-good music.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

The second one was "Mind Reader." Yeah, "Mind Reader." Yeah. Had you known to wear it like that. Had you known to turn up that song. Had you known them lit torn up jeans was gonna tear me up and turn me on. That's a flirty song. And and kinda, I love performing flirty songs on stage. I'm a single guy and a lot of girls come to my shows, which is awesome. It's a great work atmosphere. So I've realized that I like to sing flirty songs. I like, I like to flirt with people in the crowd. "Mind Reader" is a nice flirty tune.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. We were kinda talking about music acts that we've seen before. Do you remember your first show you ever attended?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Yes.

Young Hollywood

What was that?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Incubus.

Young Hollywood

Incubus?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Uh, their Morning View sessions tour in Nashville, Tennessee.

Young Hollywood

Wow. One of the first bands that you ever performed with was a cover band for Incubus.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

That's right. We covered a lot of Incubus. We played our terrible songs we thought were great back in high school. But it worked. I swear to you, within two weeks in high school, this was a big deal. We were dating a class above us. All of us. All four of us. Yes. Because of that. I was like, this is why I want to be a musician. Exactly. I was like, man, screw this football stuff. You know. The guitar's gonna get it done. Yeah. Baby, you a little mind, baby you a little mind reader. Yeah, that's what you are. Plead off a little shiver, baby, you're a heart stealer. Right here in this car. It's like you knew that smile was gonna melt me down. You know those lips are doing me right now. Girl, when you're laying them on me. Yeah, it's like you're reading my mind.

Young Hollywood

Do you remember the first time that you decided that you wanted to make music your career?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Definitely so. Definitely so. But I think I picked the guitar up because I was so insecure in high school. I really was. It was just something I could kinda let emotions go and just be alone. And I would say the first time I recorded a song on cassette back when those existed, kids. Those were a thing. And heard myself. It was the coolest feeling in the world. And still today, I love writing music because it's a room like this and you invent something that's never existed before. And then you get to hear it back over speakers. And it's just fascinating to me. So, um, that would be when I, when I officially was addicted to it and wanted to keep pursuing it.

Young Hollywood

What do you think you'd be doing if you weren't doing music? Do you have another passion that you would probably pursue?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Well, uh, yeah. I, I know exactly what I'd be doing. I went to school to be a doctor, actually. I was going to be a surgeon and uh, I got into med school and and never went. It came graduation time and and actually had to either go for it or not. And I decided to stay in Nashville and just give music a few years and just see what happened. And and I'm telling you like doors just started opening for me. It was it was it was a gift. We ride side by side. A cloud of dust and red and flying. My touch is a temptation. Her kiss is my salvation. She's sweet, I'm wild, her dangerous.

Young Hollywood

I'm going to talk about your new single. Yes. Called "Seein' Red." That's right. Can you tell me a little bit about that?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Talk about a flirty song. Yeah. Yeah. This was, uh, it's a song I've been looking for my whole career. It's up-tempo, so it's great for the live show but it's also just sexy and it it just makes me want to dance on somebody. So my mic stand is gonna get a lot a lot of action this year. I was like, I can't dance on stage. It's kinda weird dancing on my guitar player, so, no it's all good. But it's it's a fun song.

Young Hollywood

Do you find it more inspirational to be writing kind of sexy songs that are about falling in love or do you feel more inspired when you're going through heartache?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

A little both. I've gone through thinking I've really liked somebody to hating their guts overnight. And then uh, the recovery of that, which there's an album title somewhere in there I'm gonna find. Um, I don't know, I'm in a really fun spot right now. I'm I'm really focused on music and and just having fun with life and hopefully everybody can can groove to it. Yeah, it's like you're reading my mind. Yeah, that's what you are. It's like you knew just when to lean on in. Take my hand like you had it all planned. Girl, you got me figured out.

Young Hollywood

I have a request for you. Yes. So I want to do the bicep chug challenge.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Ooh! It's all about technique, it's not about biceps.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Will you teach me a second?

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Yes, you want to do it? We happen to have water bottles right here.

Young Hollywood

Oh, wow. This wasn't staged. That's no, no, no. Never.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

So here we go. Okay. The key. Okay. Is you want to hold it to your arm with your mouth, okay? First down, do this. I wanna, I'm gonna walk you through this. Push down. Good? Uh-huh. Now you just lean left. Now hold on. It's all about the hand gesture too. You're doing really good. No, you're doing, no, we're not contin-. You're doing really good. It's all about the hand gesture. So I like to shoot a gun.

Young Hollywood

Oh. Oh okay. So you can do whatever, right? I mean, rock out, whatever. Should we wave? Should we say wave by as we're doing it? Okay. Now this could be, this could be trouble. All right, one, two, three, go. Oh, one, two, three. Amazing.

Dustin Lynch Performs Live

Yeah, it's like you're reading my mind. Baby, you a little mind reader. Yeah, that's what you are. Baby, you a little mind reader. Oh, ain't you girl.
