Hey guys, it's Dae here, Young Hollywood. And this is my new single, "Sit Still, Look Pretty."
To dress up to get love. But guess what? I'm never gonna be that girl who's living in a Barbie world. To wake up and make up and fake on pretending that I need a boy who's gonna treat me like a toy.
We're with Dae here in Young Hollywood Studios. Hey. You're everywhere. I don't know, I don't know. You are, you are, you're everywhere. It's weird.
Yeah, it's crazy. So much has happened. I just can't process it all. It just feels so real, feels like a dream.
I like your hair do you got going on too.
Thank you. Yeah, I know. I don't, it's just kind of like
What's your hair do called?
Uh, the the half way, half up, half down. If you're undecided, like you don't know if you want your hair up or your hair down, just go half up, half down, whatever you want to call it. Or half today.
I've done the man bun before. You have? I've done the man bun before. I haven't seen this side of you. Why are you laughing? She's laughing. Do we have pictures? Can we pull them up? They're all on Facebook.
So she was just singing her hit song right now. "Sit Still, Look Pretty."
I know all the girlies want to wear expensive things, like diamond rings. But I don't want to be the puppet that you play on a string. This queen don't need a king. Oh, I don't know what you've been told. But this girl right here is gonna rule the world. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna be because I want to be. I don't want to sit still, look pretty. You get up on a 9 to 5 dream, or pick it back and turn to a trophy wife. But no, I'm never gonna be because I don't want to be. I don't want to sit still, look pretty.
Just that alone. Sit still, look pretty. Why did you come up with that line? Why did that phrase? What is that song mean to you?
That song is so important to me. And um, it's the title of the album too. So it's just it resonates a lot with me. And you know, I grew up in a family of five girls. And we are all very driven, very talented. And you know, our parents always encouraged us, always supported us to go after our dreams and ambitions. And taught us that we can do anything that guys can. And we shouldn't let anyone stop us from doing that. So that was kind of the mindset that went into this. And I want to inspire young girls everywhere to know that they really can believe in themselves, be confident and accomplish anything.
The only thing a boy is gonna give a girl for free is captivity. And I might love you, but I'm not that sugar sweet. Call me HPIC. Oh, I don't know what you've been told, but this girl right here is gonna rule the world. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna be because I want to be. I don't want to sit still, look pretty. You get up on a 9 to 5 dream, or pick it back and turn to a trophy wife. But no, I'm never gonna be because I don't want to be. I don't want to sit still, look pretty.
The music video is really cool. You're just like standing there. So you sit still.
Yeah.
But it's like you're like in a caged glass box, but you don't want to be there.
Yeah, I really love the concept of that. So it's basically me like on a display, like in an art museum or something like that. And I'm kind of this piece of art that people are looking at, people are admiring. And these like four business executives are like standing there with like iPods and like writing down, they're kind of controlling what they want me to look like to impress them or to impress guys or whatever. And kind of objectifying me in that sense. And then towards the end of it, I break out and I start fighting the guys next to me and it's like this very like badass cool moment. So
And then of course, they have their shirts off. What
Well, then I turn the tables on them to show them what it was like.
Next time you do a video like that, let me know. I'm ready to take my shirt off. You ready? Yeah.
Sit still, look pretty. Well, I have been stalking you on your social networks. And I brought up some Instagram photos that I wanted to talk about. Can we talk about some Instagram photos? Are we gonna do this? Let's see what we got. Oh, here we go. What's going on here, Dae?
Um, I was a nerd. That was me. Well, I am a nerd, so that wasn't really a costume. No. Oh, no. That was a sad day. That was my first hometown show. Which was really fun. And I was opening for Tori, I think, was the headliner. I was like kind of starstruck meeting Tori Kelly. I mean, she's an incredible singer and so, so talented. Yeah. This was when it was all starting.
What else we got back there? Oh, wow. What's going on here? Oh wait, I have the same hair, I have the same hair do. Is that the same hair do?
I know, this is like the second time that I've ever worn this hair do in you guys pick up. I knew that was gonna happen. You know, you know it. Oh yeah, that was behind the scenes of um, the MTV Guy Code commercials.
You like being on camera?
Do I like it? Yeah. I mean, I guess so.
So they had you, they had you like in a bunch of sketches, right? For MTV.
Yeah. I mean, it's fine. It's fine for sure.
I thought you were hilarious on there. Thank you. Good work.
It was very fun for me to do.
Let's see what else we got there on the Instagram wall.
Oh, that's also a picture of me and my sister. That was a couple weeks ago. I don't know why our eyes are closed. Um, that was at Atlanta in Music Midtown. And that was one of my favorite festivals that I've played to date. Like that was so much fun. The crowd was so energetic, so wild. And I brought her on stage because it was her birthday that day. And she happened to be there. Like they can't really come to that many shows, like my younger sisters, because they have school and everything and they're usually tied up with things. But we have family in Atlanta, so they came down for the weekend. And um, I surprised her by pulling her out on stage. It was very cool.
Let's see what else we got on the Instagram feed. Here we go. What's that one from? What? How did that get up there? What? Who? Do you remember that? Who did it? Who done it? What what was that?
No. This is not this is not happening right now.
So, do you remember when that's from?
Yeah, no, that's that's from South by Southwest in Austin. And you guys made me eat fried Oreos, fried freaking cinnamon buns or something like that.
We like to eat food with Dae. Let's do we have any food for Dae here in in the Young Hollywood Studios? Oh no. More food? Here you go. You don't have to eat it. What is this? This is not funnel cake, but we had funnel cake, I think in the interview last time on Backstage Diaries. But I was, what is it though?
Okay, and then you were like, sorry, I didn't catch that on camera, like, can you eat that again? It was like, I'm pretty sure you were just messing with me cuz I ended up eating like like 20 fried Oreos. It was disgusting. And I like almost puked before my show. And then I spilled it all over my pants.
It spilled all over your pants. We got that on camera. Yeah. Oh. What the heck. This is actually really good.
I know, this is really awesome. Bye bye, everyone. Thanks for watching.
Sit still, look pretty. Sit still, look pretty.
