Young Hollywood

I have like eye eyelash envy. I've got like issues with everything that you've got going on, the ear things, the We've been talking girl stuff.

Candice Patton

So we have been talking girl stuff.

Young Hollywood

I don't know how you have natural eyelashes like that.

Candice Patton

She's teasing me. They are not real.

Young Hollywood

I wasn't going to say anything. I wasn't going to say anything. You could have just gone with it.

Candice Patton

I was, but I'm not a liar. I can't lie.

Young Hollywood

Um, how do you get through? And I know your it's thrilling to be on a big show, but how do you get through? Day long days on set.

Candice Patton

You know what? We have such a great cast, and I know I've probably said this a million times, but we actually get along and we hang out with each other when we're done with work. We're like, what are you guys? We do. So, we go into each other's trailers and we just hang out.

Young Hollywood

Who's the person like, who's the person that you're like always in that person's trailer?

Candice Patton

Jesse.

Young Hollywood

Really?

Candice Patton

Yeah. Either Jesse or Rick. Rick and I share. It's like a long trailer in there.

Young Hollywood

Wait, isn't it one of those where you cuz I've been in trailers before and there's you can hear everything that's going on in the next trailer.

Candice Patton

You can kind of hear. I think our bathrooms, our bathrooms like separate. Which is kind of embarrassing, right? Yes, that's like I mean, I share bathroom sound space with Rick Cosnet.

Young Hollywood

Wow. It's awkward. So what have you heard? No, I'm just kidding. What has he heard?

Candice Patton

Yeah, there's a question. What has he heard? Nothing. Oh. Nothing.

Young Hollywood

Um, your fans love to hear this stuff too. They're like, I want to hang out with them. Come hang out. Don't come hang out with you. You might get turned away at the gate. So, um, I know you've talked about this, but I I'm fascinated by the fact that your dad is a former FBI agent.

Candice Patton

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Were there military secrets that were going on in your household?

Candice Patton

No, not that I know of.

Young Hollywood

You're lying. I can tell you're lying.

Candice Patton

I told the truth about my eyelashes. Which can I retract that?

Young Hollywood

You can tell the truth about eyelashes, but not about the grill. What was the best like sort of like the craziest scenario you ever told me about?

Candice Patton

Yeah. I don't know.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, that he told you about.

Candice Patton

That he told me about. I think he had a fake identity, though.

Young Hollywood

Wow.

Candice Patton

Don't quote me. Am I a li I'm in so much trouble. Just like the eyelash police are going to come and and the FBI are going to storm this place.

Young Hollywood

But do you get any sort of a perk like when do you get to go through the airport really fast or anything?

Candice Patton

Nothing. I get nothing.

Young Hollywood

Wow. How did the former FBI agent feel about you saying, Dad, I'm going to be an actress?

Candice Patton

They're so supportive. My parents are insanely supportive. You know, before I booked the show, I was at a point in my career being out here in LA where I didn't think I could go through another pilot season and hear no. And I remember I was getting on the plane the next day to fly back to LA from Texas and I was just like, Mom, I don't think that I can get on that plane and go back. And she was just like, I know you're frustrated. She's like, but you know, I'm not going to support you giving up your dreams. So, if you choose not to get on that plane, you can't stay here. So.

Young Hollywood

And then how long after was the flash?

Candice Patton

I think three weeks later, I booked the flash.

Young Hollywood

Wow. You hear these stories all the time. It's just when somebody's on their last. It's just when you're about to give up. Why is that?

Candice Patton

I don't know. I think the universe just pushes you to the very edge. But I appreciate that now. Yeah. Like there's there's an amount of appreciation I have for this job that I may not have had if I had had success right when I moved to LA.

Young Hollywood

What was the moment like when you got cast on the show? Like what was that call?

Candice Patton

Oh, man, I could cry thinking about it. I've been to that place so many times where you're testing and it's the final audition. And it's you and one other girl, and it's always gone to the other girl, you know. And so I just I think in the back of my head, while I felt like this was the role for me, there was that hesitation of like, here, here it comes again. Like just be prepared to hear no. And so, you know, the hours go by and you're like, you know, waiting for the call for your manager and finally the call came in and they were just like, you got it. And I could I literally could not believe. You just can't believe it.

Young Hollywood

Okay, I think you're going to make me cry. I'm serious. It change in one moment.

Candice Patton

I mean, it makes me emotional. My life just completely changed. It got to the point where I was just used to hearing no. And so to hear yes was like, are you sure? Like, I told I literally was on the phone with my manager and I was like, are you sure they want me? Do you want to call them back? And I was like, do you want to just call them back and make sure? And they're like, Candice, they want you.

Young Hollywood

And now, on the show, renewed for a second season.

Candice Patton

Yeah. Shooting 100,000 episodes.

Young Hollywood

100,000 episodes, exactly. That's the exact number that we're doing. Um, I want to talk about on-screen kisses. What are the kiss scenes really like?

Candice Patton

Um, they're technical. There's nothing romantic about it.

Young Hollywood

Well, it sounds like my dating life. So that's on-screen kisses are the least of my worries. What about when it's somebody who all season long or all you've become friends?

Candice Patton

Yeah, they haven't been a problem. I think because we're all so close. It's just. Just stop spitting. I don't know. But we do talk about it. I mean, after like, how was I? A little bit. Sometimes you're kissing and then there's like the like spit that hangs, which never happens in real life. In real life, when you're making out, I mean it does.

Young Hollywood

Oh, you're doing so many things wrong. I just. I'm going to hire. I want you to cut this. I'll hire you to move back to LA. I just want to help you. No. Okay, well, I thought in real life, like, you never really have the spittle that connects. I don't know. Or maybe you're doing it right. Maybe you're doing everything right.

Candice Patton

I'm getting all slobbery.

Young Hollywood

Anything you can tease about the show in general coming up.

Candice Patton

Um, I will say that episode 15 will blow your mind.

Young Hollywood

I see a lot of yeses in your future. Oh, good. I think you're awesome. I had some years of no's and I think that's it's done. She's done. Can you just hang out with me and give me advice in my life? So, basically, the show ends here.

Candice Patton

The show ends here. But for the therapy session. The couch therapy session begins now.
