There may have been an ankle that broke and it may have been mine. And that was, would you jump in from building like stuff like that? I won't get into too much how it happened, but parkour is hardcore and that was. I would have know that would happen. No. No. I'll never tell.
I'm Oliver Trevena here at Young Hollywood studio. We've the lovely Marie Avgeropoulos. How do I do? Good pronunciation. Can we keep that? That's good. We're going to carry on. Um, exciting times, Tracers. Tracers. I got to see it last night. It was great but I woke up. This is, this is the honest truth, just from watching it, I woke up and I was aching.
Aching?
Yeah, just from watching like what you were all doing. That's how out of shape I am. And it's parkour, that it's called this whole thing. Were you familiar with this before the movie?
I wasn't familiar with it at all to be honest, and when I read the script, uh, I was like, yes, I'll try anything once. I'm really into action and being physical and been an athlete most of my life. So, uh, I was really excited to get in the parkour gym and learn how to do it before we started filming.
I was going to say, what, how do you learn something like that? Is there an actual gym or do you just run across the street?
Yeah, just run across the street. In and around traffic. And around cars. Help you don't get hit, fingers crossed. Good luck getting you insured for that one. Right. Yeah. No, these parkour gyms actually exist and the athletes there are phenomenal and really friendly to us and showed us the ropes and let us parkour over, you know, nice squishy sort of mats that imitate cars before you get on set and you have to do it. Basically, just balls to the wall. Don't hold back because if you fall, it hurts. So you got to just commit mentally because it it's mostly a big giant, you know, head game. It's crazy. You think you got it in the parkour gym and then you do it on the concrete or, you know, there's like massive falls beneath you like on the ships and stuff. So that's why they really it's you. Yes. I had got the opportunity to do a lot of my own stuff.
But yeah, you play Nikki and uh, you kind of take Cam, who's Taylor, um, under your wing, sort of thing. He's a nice boy. He's a little messenger guy and then it all goes wrong when he meets you.
Yeah. Sounds sounds about right. I don't want to give too much away, but that's basically Yeah, yeah, I introduced him to the world of parkour. Try and keep up. You're also, you're involved in a little bit of a world of crime. You wanted to be in? Guess what? You're in. We your group.
Mhm. Is not good and that's what drives him down the wrong road.
Absolutely. Yeah, he needs a way, uh, to make some fast cash. He's in a really desperate financial situation with some really ugly consequences and when he meets Nikki, he's intrigued by her, but also what she does in with her involvement in the mafia and how they use parkour to pull off these heists because how are the cops going to catch you when you're getting, you know, out of the buildings by smashing through windows and and parkouring all over New York City.
There's a lesson there. There's a lesson there for everyone. If a beautiful girl knocks you off your bike and you're strapped for cash, just go the other way, choose something else, get a job at Starbucks. Don't trust her. All these movies and shows that you're doing, you're always constantly traveling from, you know, set to set. What are three things that you can't be without when you're on location?
I can't be without my blankie. And
What did you say? Your blankie?
Yeah.
Okay. My grandma made it for me. You're just juggling everything. You're like parkour, hardcore, blankie.
I know. I'm a Gemini, and I'm like, I'm hardcore, I'm a big suck. I'm in the middle. And uh, probably a set of drumsticks. I can't be without Stevie Nicks. Do you think she'd want to come along with me? I think she would. She's game. She's a good time. She's a good time. I can't wait.
Have you met her?
I have. Yeah.
Oh, jealousy. I actually have, I'm going to say that. I've met Stevie Nicks. Actually in your home country, Toronto.
I'm not from Toronto. I'm from Thunder Bay.
No, but you're home country, Canada. It's the same, it's the same country. I said. It's the country. Country. No, it's the country. Yeah, but it's still from your country. And you're now not in Canada, you now live in California.
I don't know where I live. I travel for work so much. I'm a gypsy woman. I've I've been really fortunate. Happy problems, um, of course.
Good problem. Good problems. What do you miss most about home? About Thunder Bay? Is that it? Is that where you're from? Is that what it's called? It's called No way. That's a real place. You've done your research before this interview.
No, I knew you're from Canada, I Thunder Bay. What I miss the most about Thunder Bay other than the obvious my friends and family, definitely the crazy temperatures. It gets like minus 43 in the wintertime. Like on Christmas Day, it's minus 43. It's legit. You freeze your butt off. There's no looking cute. It's about survival. That's how cool. And I miss it.
