But um, was it good acting because your guitar playing is so impressive?

I had I had about two and a half months of guitar lessons with actually here in Los Angeles and they were giving me these exercises and my fingers were like bleeding, like a Bryan Adams song and and I was like watching TV playing these finger picking exercises and It's not all me in the film, I hasten to add.

The singing is all me but the some of the guitar is doubled because Right.

Well, I've actually just started guitar lessons.

It's horrendous.

Yeah, like I was like, this is exciting.

And I'm like, no, this is hard.

Yeah.

It hurts your fingers.

I mean, that was my whole thing is that I my husband had me practicing and practicing and I was like, I can't put I can't put my fingers down on the strings anymore, it hurts so bad but he powered through all that.

Since you've started though, don't have you noticed everyone's brilliant at the guitar, everyone else.

Well that's why the movie just put me off completely.

I was like, I'm giving up.

I'm gonna piano.

Um, and you had you had played guitar before or So you were No, no.

I hadn't and thankfully Yeah, and he's a really, I mean, he's put his 10,000 hours in.

He's been playing since he was like eight or something.

So um, he helped me just with, you know, a few tips, tricks and techniques.

But thankfully I didn't really have to play that much.

It was just sort of implied that like there was a time when she could post drum a bit.

Joel is one of those guys who can pick up a guitar and listen to a song on the radio and then just play along by by like 30 seconds in.

I mean, I I listened to a lot of um, the songs that are sung.

Most of them are originals from the 20s, 30s like like some of them are a bit country.

And I was so I was listening to a lot of the recordings of those kind of songs and listening to Eydie Gorme and all these like great old school singers singing.

So trying to make my voice sound a little bit like something a bit different.

So finding a voice for the character that isn't really my single voice.

But it was I loved it.

I as you can tell I mean, eyes go big.

Somebody asked me about the music, I get all saucepans in the eyes like.

We can make The lovely movie, it's got the romance in there, but it's got the struggles, you know, you both got your own stuff going on as well.

And I think, you know, you sort of find her at the beginning of the film before she meets him, in just this sort of dire straits.

I mean, she's had to move back home to her hometown that she's sort of desperately wanted to leave.

Move back in with her mother, dragging her eight-year-old with her, and, you know, afraid, she's afraid and anxious and and not sure what's going to happen next and if she even has the means to get out of a toxic relationship and get out of a toxic life that she no longer wants to live.

And then she meets this perfect guy.

This perfect guy who, you know, I think the thing that he sort of gives her is courage and faith that it will that she can and she will and it will work out.

So she does.

There's lovely.

Yeah.

Not only, not only is he a handsome guy who can play the guitar, Ben, at times, it's just when you think it can't get any better, he fixes the roof as well.

Actually that was I was like, Where else can we go?

That was actually something that I brought up with the director.

I was like, so, so, so he's a musician and you've got at one point I I hold a ladder like on my shoulder and then later on I'm like holding wood on the other like to fix the roof on the other shoulder.

And I'm like sort of yes ma'am and no ma'am and being polite to the mum and taking the rubbish out.

I'm like, you are using pulling out all the tricks to help me look like sort of chivalrous and manly here.

Like, I'm pretty impressive, huh?

Yeah, let's go to the hardware shop.

It's just kind of like all the tricks to make me look kind of, you know.

It's kind of a movie that you don't want to watch with your other half if you're a guy because they're just gonna look at you and say, See?

I can't imagine, but I just love her voice.

It's so pretty and her, you know, the passion that she sings with.

It's actually about, you know, it's actually about two people in their struggles in their own lives and what happens in the in the course of a few days when they meet each other and there's a simplicity to it.

And, you know, there is a cool subculture of people who still kind of ride trains and play music and have this very simplistic philosophy to life. And I think that it's, you know, it's it's interesting to see that that culture explored as well. So, I think that it's a bit it's a it's a little bit different, actually. It is very different.
