Do you do online dating?

Clark Duke

No, I, I broke up recently in October, so I've done the Tinder thing. I thought I'd join it. Everyone was telling me to join it. I lost, it was horrific. It was like the thought of someone seeing that. I was on there and saying, oh you are on Tinder. I saw you. That's what, that's exactly what keeps me off of it. Someone I know seeing it. Seeing like, oh. Just the deep waves of shame.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, it's horrible. Washing over me. And the thought of being waking up not knowing how many times you were swiped right. I like I want to know. I want to know.

Young Hollywood

I'm in the Young Hollywood studio, joined by this talented chat, Clark Duke. How are you?

Clark Duke

Very well.

Young Hollywood

We're just talking about online dating.

Clark Duke

Yeah, or the lack thereof.

Young Hollywood

Or the lack thereof that we both find it really, really horrible.

Clark Duke

Romance is dead.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, it's over. Gone. It's been gone for years now.

Clark Duke

It's gone. I think romance started in like 2006.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, maybe even maybe before that. That was it. Anyway. Hot Tub Time Machine 2. This is what's exciting, it's back.

Clark Duke

That's very exciting.

Young Hollywood

I love the first one. This is exciting. Yeah, this is really good stuff. It's got like a cult following, isn't it?

Clark Duke

It is a comedy. Following, yeah. Um, it was financed by a cult.

Young Hollywood

This is good. Cuz they got lots of money.

Clark Duke

We steal the money from our followers. It's a smart move.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. You guys, if you've got lots of fans and that, why not? Cut the middle man out. Take a dollar from every one of them.

Clark Duke

I think we just described Kickstarter.

Young Hollywood

We did. Yeah. Oh if only we had this interview three years ago. But going back to Hot Tub Time Machine 2, um, so you're back with the guys, that was a bit must be nice being reunited.

Clark Duke

Welcome back, yeah. Four years ago, the laws of space and time were violated. It must be some kind of hot tub time machine. And our world was changed forever. Was it morally wrong to exploit our knowledge of the future for personal financial gain? Whoa. I'm the father of the internet. Oh. Ever since I wrote "Call Me Maybe" back in '92, I've been on a roll. I think it's refreshing for a sequel because we don't really repeat any beats from the first movie. Okay. Like there's not a lot of like, remember this, we're doing it again but in a now we're in, you know, Hong Kong or whatever. Like, it's a completely different movie with just like the same idiots. Which is great cuz then when you spend your money, you're happy with it. You just spend it. That's the goal, yeah. I want everyone to leave happy.

Young Hollywood

Um, now, if you were in a hot tub time machine,

Clark Duke

Oh god. Oh.

Young Hollywood

And you could go back in time and have a date with any woman,

Clark Duke

Right.

Young Hollywood

Who would it be? This is um. Good question, I know. This is a great question.

Clark Duke

No. I, I'm having to really put some thought into this. This is something that Adam Scott said the other day and it made me laugh so hard that I'm going to repeat it because I thought it was so good. It was like if you could meet any person in history, who would you meet? And he said, what was the woman that um, that Eric Clapton and George Harrison fought over? He said, she must have really had something going on.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. She must have had something to get those two guys.

Clark Duke

I think she had three boobies.

Young Hollywood

She had three boobies. Hot Tub Time Machine 3? Is there going to be a third one? Do we know this yet?

Clark Duke

I mean the the true answer is, if this one makes money, yeah. Pretty confident in it. Pretty confident.

Young Hollywood

If you could, if you could write that one, not that you're going to kill, get rid of Josh, but if you, if you could, if you could kill him and he wasn't there and you wrote the movie.

Clark Duke

Actually, I don't even want to say it because he actually has already pitched the third one and we all think it's really funny so I don't even want to give it away.

Young Hollywood

Oh. Cuz I actually really like it. Oh god. Yeah, you can't tell us that. No. No, that would be really bad for us. Tell us. Tell us. Tell us. She wants to know. Look. She wants to know. I'm so bored. She wants to know. She looks right at me and yawns.

Clark Duke

No, it's addicting. It's addicting.

Young Hollywood

What's your go-to karaoke song?

Clark Duke

Head Over Heels, Tears for Fears. It's a good one. Young Americans by David Bowie. Raspberry Beret by Prince.

Young Hollywood

Like, see this just shows you really are a big fan of karaoke. This is great.

Clark Duke

I got these just in the chamber. Literally. Anything by The Killers. That's a good karaoke one always. Cuz you do it with a buddy. Makes it more fun when it's your friend. Sweet Home by Mötley Crüe.

Young Hollywood

Okay. And this is this is a hard question. Is there a moment that just says, yes, like you're your favorite moment. Can you even nail down one moment? Like one moment?

Clark Duke

I can, you can name a few.

Young Hollywood

I mean, do do what you've done with the karaoke. Just keep naming them.

Clark Duke

Mhm. I mean, getting to work with Chevy Chase. That's up there for me. That's pretty up there. Chevy's my like boyhood comedy hero. I was so just like in awe and like, all my scenes were with him so for like a week straight, he and I would just go to dinner every night.

Young Hollywood

Was that nervous going into that? Or you were just

Clark Duke

I told him when I met him, I was like, you're my hero. I just wanted to tell you that so I don't like throw up or anything while we're shooting and then he proceeded to just like call me names for a few weeks. But in a very loving way. In Chevy's way.

Young Hollywood

Hot Tub Time Machine 2, watch it. I mean, they're going to watch it.

Clark Duke

Please watch it. We haven't even got to sell this movie. It sells itself.

Young Hollywood

I would consider it a personal favorite. It sells itself. I don't even know why we're doing this interview right now. It's just one of those movies that people will watch.

Clark Duke

You think you really think so?

Young Hollywood

Yes. I really think so.

Clark Duke

Man, if this thing could just open at like 35 million, that would.

Young Hollywood

I'm a very picky movie goer. I am. Like for me to go to the movies nowadays cuz there is so much but the minute I saw the the trailer for it, I was like, I'm there. So I want you to find it. You know, it's not a lot of comedies too. What else are you going to watch? Bad things might happen to you if you don't watch this movie. I'm going to level with you guys. I need this.

Clark Duke

He needs this. I've got some gambling debts.

Young Hollywood

He doesn't online date which makes it more expensive to take girls on dates. Cuz he's got to really

Clark Duke

I'm going to do offline dating.

Young Hollywood

Offline dating cuz he can't afford to log on. It's a facts-based service. It's so slow. It's so unhandy. We've got one coming in right now.
