Diego Boneta

Hey guys, it's Diego Boneta and this is my first single from my third album The Hurt. I don't get high unless I'm being in you. I'm never satisfied until I get a bruise. I don't want love, I don't want love, I want the hurt.

Young Hollywood

This is the first time, because I've known you for years, but the first time I've heard you sing, sing live.

Diego Boneta

This was actually my first time performing the single in any show. So thank you, thank you for having me, guys.

Young Hollywood

Look at that, brilliant, amazing, amazing. The Hurt.

Diego Boneta

The Hurt.

Young Hollywood

The Hurt. It hurts. It hurts. The lyrics. We all want love, but we get the hurt.

Diego Boneta

Yeah. It's funny because it was literally the first song I wrote once I signed to Sony. You know, because they're like, okay, we got to find your sound and it takes time. Yeah. And they're like, okay, you know, so they sent me up with these writers and I was, you know, you know, ready to write at least six songs to get something and I I had just broken up with someone. I was going through a rough time which always works. I don't know what you know, it just always works. I think to be a successful musician, you just got to keep breaking up with people. Just have to suffer. Just have to be heartbroken. Got to be ruined. You just have to be ruined the whole time. As soon as you're happy, the career just goes downhill. I'm happy everyone, let's write a song. It's just not going to work. Just doesn't work. No, I I I I go in and Jordan, one of the one of the writers on this just starts playing that that kind of tune, that like that kind of like retro vibe. I just start singing, you know, just just playing around. I go, "I don't want love, I don't want love, I want the hurt." And he goes, "Dude, that's sick." Chase the line with my heart in my hands. And that's I'm running 'til you make me a man. I don't want love, I don't want love, I want the hurt. Cuz when my heart's breaking and my soul's forsaken, you know I can't get enough. When the room starts shaking, we can bear for making, the roof falling down from above. I don't want love, I don't want love.

Young Hollywood

A lot of people may not realize that, but you've you've killed it in the music business already. You've done very well, sold a lot of records, man.

Diego Boneta

Yeah. Yeah. It's it's it's funny because that's that's that's how I start. I started singing in Mexico and in Latin America and acting was a complete accident. Right. And then when I moved here in 2008, I toured with a band called RBD that back in '07, '08, when we met, it was very big and we're doing, you know, big, it was a big tour.

Young Hollywood

And you opened up for Hilary Duff, you've done that, too.

Diego Boneta

Yeah, that was yeah, that that was back in '09. Way back. That RBD tour was was crazy because it was, you know, playing Madison Square Garden two nights in a row, the LA Coliseum, the the Macana stadium in Rio, just surreal stuff and I and I moved here and, you know, I had to literally start from ground zero. Right.

Young Hollywood

Who would you say your inspirations music-wise are?

Diego Boneta

For this for this album or just in in general?

Young Hollywood

For this album, for this album.

Diego Boneta

For this album, I'd say it's definitely a pop top 40 thing, but my my influences growing up were a lot of '80s bands. Right. Which is kind of ironic because I'm a lot of Yeah, we spoke about that. I love, you know, from YouTube to The Police, to Queen. So there's definitely some retro kind of like rock and roll sounds in in in in the verses and with like guitars and stuff, mixed with some modern beats. So I'd say it's kind of like a Bruno Mars meets a Black Keys. Right. Kind of like in that world.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Diego Boneta

Be a match to be and light me on fire. So you don't love me while you're preaching to the choir. I don't want love. I don't want love. I want the hurt. I dropped the sugar but it don't taste so sweet. I like the feeling when you're sinking your teeth. I don't want love. I don't want love. I want the hurt.

Young Hollywood

But you are a busy man, you can't talk right now because Scream Queens, which is amazing, the acting that you're doing, you don't stop in that world either.

Diego Boneta

Yeah. It's exciting. It's so exciting. It's it's so exciting and it's I mean, it's so cool to be a part of this because we're all really excited to be in this. At first we didn't really know what it was going to be about. Right. It was like, you know, we we I signed on and most of us did without even reading a script. Right. It was just off Ryan's phone call being like, it's uh, it's a comedy horror with uh, you know, with with dark comedy and twisted humor like I'm in. It was like, you know, you take a gamble on Ryan Murphy. It's Ryan calls. I mean, I was like, you know, like you had me.

Young Hollywood

You just picked up the phone. You're like, yes. I'm in. I'm in. You had me at hello. You had me at hello, Jerry Maguire. Right now. Here you go. We we are going to start quoting romances. We probably shouldn't. Because then people would believe the look the love you. Okay. You complete me. I'm not going to lie, I got I got a little shiver. It is, it's a dark comedy. I mean, the from the scenes of the the heads in the grass and the lawn mower, it's it gets graphic. I was like, wow. Are we are we going there? Yeah. And everyone's asking, who who is the red devil? Who's the killer? I think it's you.

Diego Boneta

Really?

Young Hollywood

I think it's Peach. I've got to be honest. I really do think it's

Diego Boneta

Well, for starters, I think they tried the reverse psychology thing because the the outfits found in your in your closet. The red devil mask is there. I think P, they tried to be like, that's too obvious. But it's not too obvious. We're trying to trick them. Do you know? I think it's you. I really do think it's you. I I mean, I would love.

Young Hollywood

Look me in the eyes, is it you? He's him. I just I can tell. He's him. It's him.

Diego Boneta

If I would be the killer.

Young Hollywood

You're starring now as well. I've got you. I've got you on your back foot.

Diego Boneta

No, I just I just I'm telling you, I I wish I was the killer. Do you even know? No one knows. No one knows, like literally we'll be in between takes, actors, crew members like having all these like conspiracy theories of this that no one has a clue. So you don't love me while you're preaching to the choir. I don't want love. I don't want love. I want the hurt. I dropped the sugar but it don't taste so sweet. I like the feeling when you're sinking your teeth. I don't want love. I don't want love. I want the hurt.

Young Hollywood

You sustained a very serious onset injury. Well, not onset, but while you were filming in New Orleans. It was bad. It was bad. You were doing your own stunts in the kitchen.

Diego Boneta

I don't cook at all. And I'm Googling recipes and I'm like apron on, like everything, okay? And then meals done. ready and I have the brilliant idea of adding some healthy fat, some avocado in in in the salad and I go, okay, well, there's a chopping board there, but who needs a chopping board, you know? This is how they do in the Food Network. I grabbed the avocado, I start cutting it, you know, around. I go, one. Okay, it's not splitting, two and then three. And got 15 stitches right here. I'm not I'm not sure if if you can see it right here or not.

Young Hollywood

I can see it. I can see it. We'll get a close-up of that.

Diego Boneta

It was it was bad. Production was not happy. They were I was like, oh it's it's just my. It's fine. I got one of my friends. It's fine. I've too. Yeah, it's fine. We'll go with the show anyway. And they're like, what happened to your hand? But I I Instagramed the picture and they went they went crazy and then my my love interest uh Skylar Samuels a month later, cooking chicken, cutting chicken, cut her thumb again. See. Let this be a lesson to everyone in Hollywood. This is people laugh when celebrities have their own personal chefs but they have to. It's dangerous.

Young Hollywood

Obviously mentioned some of the cast, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas. A lot of musicians in there. Did you have like any jam sessions or anything? Did you did you see each other much because there's so many different characters coming in and out?

Diego Boneta

Um, yeah, we we are we are we all got to hang out with. I know. So no, it was it was cool. We we've had a lot of fun. A lot. And Jamie Lee Curtis is Oh yeah. I mean, the cast when you look at it, you're like, wow, that's gonna be fun. The best.

Young Hollywood

I'm glad you found time to sit still in the studio between all your projects. You know you're I mean, you're you're a friend of mine. Okay. Can we cue some love music? That just had the Like a

Diego Boneta

Dude. It's a bro moment right here. Serious bro moment's going on. I don't want love, I don't want love, I want the hurt. I want the hurt.
