Hey guys, what's up? It's Christina Grimmy. I'm going to be singing my brand new single "Shrug." And I got my brother here on guitar, so I hope you guys like it. Oh. Oh yeah. So you've been hanging with my ex all day. All day. You don't say thanks for taking what I threw away. Ain't fair. You play these little games. You're such a joke.
Tell me about this song.
Um, it's um, it's a song that's not necessarily about a love or someone that you're dating. Okay. Um, but it could be. You know, we all have people in our lives who, you know, try to one-up us in areas. And it's kind of like, it's just like, no, you're not, you know, just shrug it off. Um, and basically, kind of a little little bit of a hater song as well. Um, I've had too many people tell me that I cannot do something, and it drives me crazy. So, um, so thus, shrug was born. Yeah. Just shrug.
How do you shrug? How do you actually shrug?
Just shrug it off. Just like, "All right." Yeah. Whatever.
You're a you're a like two shoulder shrugger. Is that
I am. Okay. I mean, you can do this too. Okay. I feel like that, yeah. Or you can like alternate maybe.
Yeah, you know, sometimes it's left, sometimes it's right. You know, it depends on the day. Sometimes you're feeling really sassy, it's both.
Exactly.
A lot of your fans know you from being on The Voice. You were on Adam's team, and he was so impressed with you that he wanted to bring you onto his label. What's the best piece of advice Adam gave to you while you were on the show?
There weren't really specific one-liner notes that he had. It was just the overall impression that he made on me, I think, what helped me through the show and even as a person. You know, he gave me a lot of guidance as to, you know, just the business. It's very hard, and it's very tough and just to go to the places that you want to go. And, of course, Adam has been in this a very long time. Right. So, I took his word for it, of course. I was like, "Okay, this guy knows what he's talking about." So, I really took the the opportunity that I had to just ask him questions about, you know, you know, if you were in this position, what would you do? And what happens when I get here? And, you know, just it was more of advice in that realm.
So you kind of like your brother? Like a big brother little bit?
I would say so. I actually kind of described him as that after a while.
Nice.
I called him my "bud bud" on the show. So, everyone, everyone, my bud bud. So, yeah, that's what I
I think that's like a really small club of people who are able to call Adam Levine their their "bud bud." Right.
Baby, stand around, try to one-up you, up. You sense in every lie on the tip of their tongue. When you had enough, hit them with the shrug like yeah, yeah. Baby, stand around, try to one-up you, up. You sense in every lie on the tip of their tongue. When you had enough, hit them with the shrug like yeah, yeah.
You just reached 3 million subscribers. 3 million subscribers on YouTube. That's amazing.
Thank you.
How does it feel to have such a huge social media following?
It's ah, the only thing I can think of is thank God that I started when I did.
What do you mean by that?
When I um because I started a while ago when it was like building. It was a new thing and like unheard of that people would come from YouTube. That's crazy. You know? Right. Um so, I I'm one of the blessed to say that I
#blessed.
#blessed. hashtag blessed of emoji. emoji with the light. That was great. Um but yeah, I I have no idea how it, you know, escalated into what it did, but it did. And I'm, you know, here I am. I'm I've got so much going on, and I love my beautiful, beautiful, beautiful team Grimmy is what I call them.
Team Grimmy? I was going to ask. Yeah, if there's a name for, are they called the Grummy's?
Team Grimmy. Um, it's just team Grimmy. They're they're my uh, they're my friends. I don't call them fans. They don't like that anymore because they're fans out there. Okay. And now they're like, if they find any interview where I call them fans, they literally will comment and, you know, post a picture on Twitter like, "You said fans, you're not supposed to say that." I was like, I know.
So just to be clear, she's calling you guys friends.
I'm calling you guys friends. Love it. It means friends. Friends. They're my they're my fam. Standing hola, hola, hola. She looking at me. Take a picture. Don't be jalin. Going to have your friends. You're just imaginary. This is getting old. Let it go. play these little games. You're such a joke. You ain't even true to yourself. Oh, you think you claims are made of gold. But deep down everybody knows that.
Speaking of uh, your friends, they have been blowing up my Twitter feed, so I thought I would read a couple questions um from them to you. I had beamed out that I was interviewing you today, and and they blew up my Twitter feed like none other. Okay. The first one is is actually, um, a video game question from Grimmy Fan for Life. Who is your favorite Mario Kart character?
Oh my goodness. Well, when I first got Mario Kart 8, and I've I've played all the previous ones so, but Mario Kart 8 in particular, I love Rosalina. She was great 'cause she had Lumas, a little star. I thought that was cute. Um, but actually a lot of the times, I'm Metal Mario. I think that would have to be my actual.
Metal Mario.
Metal Mario is my fave.
Nice. New album date. This comes from Dandaman207.
Dandaman. Okay. Um, new album date. I'm trying to get it out as as soon as I can, but I'm a really hardcore perfectionist, so I'm also over-analyzing everything. And I almost shouldn't, but like I just want this to be great. And uh, there's just a lot of ideas still floating around that I want to finish. Okay. Before I release it.
A couple of fans asked about a potential collaboration um with Tory Kelly and/or Maroon 5. Oh my God. Any potential that that would happen?
Um, I would hope for both of those. Um, but considering I did sing with Adam already, Holy crap. Like I just like said that like on the fly. Like, considering I already sang with Adam. Uh no, but for real, like
No bragging or anything.
I don't no, I did not mean it like that. Oh, did you feel that? That name drop right on the foot. I'm sorry.
We already know you text with him and whatever, fine. You're his bud bud.
I mean, I'm saying I've never met Tory Kelly. Okay. And uh, she's actually one of the top people that um inspires me and that I actually respect. Oh, you think your claims are made of gold. But deep down everybody knows that.
You are opening up the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
I am.
So Lazy Steve017, they've quite the handles. your friends. Yeah. Um, says, "Please ask what would she sing during the opening at iHeartRadio?"
What am I I can't tell you that. I can't give that away. It's the opening. Can you give I can give away one song, though. Um, It doesn't have to do with shrugging. I mean, well, that's a never gone thing. So. Um, but I am uh going to be singing one of my favorite songs I did on The Voice. And um, doing a you know, it was actually the only time I think on The Voice I actually sat down and played the keys. Um and it's Hold On, We're Going Home by Drake. That is in there for sure. Yeah. I want to get the crowd kind of going too. Like, I want everyone in the audience just like,
How excited are you that you're going to be singing on the same stage that J. Lo will be performing on, that Kanye West is going to be performing on, that Hozier, who I heard you warm up to. I know. Uh, like Are you just you know, are you just going to be pinching yourself when you're when you're there?
I don't even like, I'm freaking out at the fact that it's amazing, but I don't think it like hit me yet that's happening. You know what I mean? Like I don't think that's sank in completely. I think when I get there, it'll happen. But the fact that all these incredible incredible people um are going to be up on the stage after me is just kind of like a mind-blowing thing. Um actually, I went to iHeart last year. Uh just to go. And it was, yeah, and it was amazing. Um I was just sitting there going, "You know what? I'm you know, I I strive for that. That's what I want." And here I am doing that. So that to me is a huge dream come true. Um and answer to prayer, and just wow. All the streams kind of stuff. Hit them, hit them with the shrug like. Baby, stand around, trying to warn you up. You sense in every lie on the tip of their tongue. When you had enough, hit them with the shrug like yeah, yeah, yeah.
