What's more fun, the sexual research or the historical research?
It's great to have you here. I'm a huge fan of yours. Thank you. Um, it's complicated. I I swear to you. I have seen it. I know it's coming. 25 times.
What is it about that movie?
I think it's like a it's like a warm glass of milk. It's like comfort food.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And I know the director because I did a tiny little scene in The Holiday a long time ago. So I know she does a lot of takes.
Oh, amazing. Yes, she does. Yeah, she's amazing.
What was her record?
My first day on set was Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep and um, Steve Martin, and I was like, so this is my life now. And then proceeded to make like amazing rookie mistakes right off the gate.
Oh, no, what happened?
Uh, just not knowing things like, you know, like technical stuff, like what it means when they say hit your mark. Yeah. I remember a scene that we were shooting with John Krasinski, and he literally had me by the back of the jacket and was sort of like directing
Oh, oh, how sweet. Oh, that's so sweet.
Yeah. We did a scene where Meryl Streep is carving a chicken, and we went through, I think, like 45 chickens.
Wow.
So, by the end they weren't even like fully cooked. It was like just get them out there. And you're not there. I think Libby, you know, all of season one, her whole MO is about giving birth. And, uh, you know, after the miscarriage, and then she finally does. Um, I think in her mind everything is going to sort of fall into place.
Masters of Sex, what an incredible cast.
Yeah, yeah.
Michael Sheen came in here at one time. And he is, um, it's hard not to have a crush on him.
It's true. It's true. Yeah. He's got that little extra something, you know. He's got a little mischievous twinkle.
This season takes place in 1966. Yes, you're you're crossing, you're going into a new decade.
Yeah. Yeah, it turns out 60s clothes are a lot more comfortable.
Is it is it a history lesson being on the show a little bit, or sort of, you know, reminding yourself of.
Sure. I mean not necessarily reminding because it didn't I wasn't born in the
Well, meaning like you learned about it in school. We're never hypothetically hypothetically to remind you, if you were paying attention in school.
Yeah. Um, yeah, but no, I'm a super big nerd for the research. I love to find out about the era that we are shooting in. It's really cool.
What's more fun, the sexual research or the historical research?
Um, you know, I would say it's equal parts.
Yeah. That's a great answer. Thank you. I feel like if I could have chosen any decade to sort of grow up in, I would have picked the 70s. Do you feel like what decade do you sort of most identify with?
I The 60s really resonated with me. I I would have initially said the 70s too, but um, doing this research about the 60s, I feel feel very at home.
Really?
Yeah. Yeah, the hippie movement, oh, yeah. Registers with me and sort of the activism and just such a cool time.
I was wondering like growing up what you envisioned your life to be and what, you know, is it what you thought?
I I worshipped Meryl Streep since I was eight years old. And then if you'd told me I would get to play her daughter, um, part of me would have been like, well, of course, and then part of me would be like, oh my god. Um, so I think I think it's both. Like, in my childhood imaginings of a Hollywood career, I don't think like sitting in traffic on the 10 featured very heavily.
Never envisioned that.
No. Um, but I also, uh, I've had experiences that are better than anything I could have dreamed up. So, it's been a good run.
Yeah. But did you always want to be an actress? Was that always a dream from the time you were young?
Yeah, yeah. Since I was little. Yeah.
So you weren't like me where you thought you were going to do something totally different than you ended up.
What were you going to do?
Oh my gosh, I thought I was going to be the first woman in the NFL. I truly did. I was a football I wore football jerseys instead of dresses. Nothing's changed. Or I didn't wear bottoms. So I just like wore a jersey. And I really thought.
You are actually my boyfriend's dream woman. It's weird, it's weird to stare into the face of your boyfriend's dream woman. It's very strange, but Let me tell you, it's not all that it's cracked up to be. You're much better off, in this situation, in this one.
That's funny. But no, I did. I thought I was going to be, you know, I thought I was tough.
Yeah. So cool. That's my life. So thank thanks. I'm not I'm not. How are we talking How am I? You're making me blush.
I'm blushing too cuz I said something about my boyfriend. For me. Yeah. It's happening. I want to bring up something adorable from your Instagram. Your brother. How old is wait, how old is your brother?
He's 23.
Oh, okay, I thought he was younger from that. Oh, hi bro. Um, so was this on your Instagram or your Twitter? He he text you and you screenshot it. So he says, I know very little about LA, but I would love to see some cool movie museums or exhibits. I want to eat some sushi. See you once at for sure. That's a nice bro thing. Socialize with an A or B list celebs, Getty Center. He's very open. And, here's my favorite part, hike shirtless with McConaughey. It's it's pretty much when people think about LA they think they're going to go hiking and McConaughey's just going to show up.
Totally.
Are you going to make this happen for him?
You know, I reached out to McConaughey, but you know, he didn't. Um, he did come to set. He did have sushi.
There you go. And then last but not least, before, you know, when you guys go on hiatus, what did you do during your summer vacation, so to speak, and when what was your first day like back when you see everybody again?
I did a lot of traveling.
Did you?
Uh, yeah. I spent some time in New York and um, in home home in Maine, and I went to Istanbul, which was really exciting. Yeah. And then the first day back is great. It feels like summer camp to be at work and we've all now been working with each other for a bunch of years. So, it's awesome. It also feels like we've never left. A little, which is kind of silly. It's a little like school, in a way.
Totally. Yeah. Well, thank you for coming in.
Yeah, thanks. Good questions. You and your boyfriend.
