I'm Oliver Trevina here with Young Hollywood, joined by Patrick Chung. How are you?
Good, man. How are you doing?
Good to see you sitting still.
Chillin'.
Chillin' out there. You're normally just, you're normally just moving.
Sometimes. Sometimes. Yeah, I guess it's still right now.
You got still. You got still cuz the ESPYs were last night.
Yeah, it was fun. Had a great time.
Were you dancing? Did you shake a few moves last night?
I didn't dance.
Okay. Were there anyone dancing?
I felt like I was dancing though. I was gross stand still.
Okay. Favorite part of the evening?
Um, I don't know the show was pretty good.
You don't remember anything, do you?
No, I do remember. The show was good. Drake did a good job, man. It was funny. It's funny, very interactive, so it was funny. He was, he was a good host.
Good. Okay. That Drake, was it, was it Drake Blake? Right. Versus.
Yeah, that's pretty fun.
If you could if you could have anyone host the ESPYs, your choice, who would you love to love to see host it?
I'm a Wayne fan, man. I would I would want to see him do it.
Yeah. I could see him doing it. Yeah, that could happen. Yeah. You put it out there, we'll see what happens next year. What about you? Let's see if you're right.
Um, I'd like to mix it up, put Bette Midler in there.
Oh, I'm down with that. And you shock everyone, just come out of 'Wind Beneath My Wings' straight away. Just see how it goes down.
Yeah, right, right.
Um, and who were you happy to see get an award last night?
Oh, I mean, really everybody, man. Sporting enough. Right, right. With ball sauces. It's kind of it's hard, it's hard to get those things. So whatever the award is, man, it's it's a blessing, you know, it's very good. So, yeah.
Right. And talking about football, that's what you do. That is your thing. Um, New England Patriots to the Eagles, back to the Patriots.
Yeah.
Uh, exciting. It's an exciting time.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Nice. I was there for four years, man. Felt like family was there. Fans are great, the city's great, you know, everything was good, so I was very excited.
Right. And being a being a, obviously I'm I'm British if you didn't gather that so far.
No, I didn't hear you.
We we think around American football. So, so uh, being new to it, how would you how would you sell American football to a British guy? Like, what would you say is the best part of the sport? You're pitching it to me right now. You're pitching it.
I mean, everything, man. You you learn how to have brothers, family. It's it's you gotta be consistent with things.
Okay.
You know, you know it's fun, it's aggressive, it's passionate, intense.
What's your favorite part personally? When you get on that field, what is your favorite part of the game?
I like hitting people.
Do you?
Yeah.
Okay, I'll be nice for the rest of this. That was like Patrick making a subtle. No, I'm messing with you. He's not. I can tell. Um, and you're you're a safety.
Yeah.
Explain that to me.
It's a tough position to play. Right. You know, if, you know, D-line messes up, you can save him a little bit. Linebackers can save him. You just mess up with the safety. It's over. So the pressure's on you. Yeah, absolutely. And you got these 6'4", 6'5" receivers just going up, so it's pretty pretty tough. You gotta make a lot of communication. So it's it's a pretty tough position all around there.
So, explain this to me. Your mom's a reggae singer. Yeah. Dad's a producer, your brother got became a doctor. What made you wanna get hit by guys or hit people?
Well, when I was in Jamaica, I was actually on the swim team.
Okay.
Right? So I came to came to the States, I'm like, "Yo, mommy, I wanna try, you know, football." She's like, "Why don't you just swim?" I like my dad's like, "No, go ahead, try it." And just kinda fell in love with it, man. It's a great sport.
I wanna mention your mom again because being British, your mom had a huge hit.
Yeah.
'Girlie Girlie'.
Yeah.
Was massive over there.
Yeah, man. It's it's crazy. Crazy thinking about it. I was I wasn't born yet, but it's crazy thinking, you know, my mom and dad they had a good time in life. Right. Yeah. You know, it's good.
So, being your mom being a musician, your dad being a producer, and your brother being a dancer, if you were to follow in one of those footsteps, which would you most be likely to go?
Music. Music. I love music.
Okay.
Music's like a huge stress reliever.
Nice. Favorite artist right now?
I don't have a favorite, man. I like kinda like everything. I listen to everything, rap, hip-hop, country, alternative, rock. I kinda listen to whatever sounds good, has a good message, I'm good. I'll listen to it.
Nice. Now, I interviewed Brandon Flowers the other day. He just started with the Chargers. He had a watch similar to yours. You guys, you love your bling, didn't you? It pays well, football.
Kinda subtle, man. I'm a I'm a watch I'm a watch guy. So I'm a watch guy. So
Is it nice? Look at this. Talking about gift show, ESPYs, that's one thing that people talk about, the gifting lounge.
Yeah.
Yes. A lot of gifts. It's pretty mind-blowing from what I hear.
Yeah. It was for my first time in there, man. It was I'm down. I actually had to send some of my gifts to my bag, so I can't take them on the plane. It's so much stuff.
Wow, wow. One item that sticks out as being your favorite from the gifts?
All right. It's a Mickey beanie. But it's like swagged out.
Um, and uh, onto more serious stuff than Mickey Mouse beanies, Chung Changes Lives. You do you do amazing stuff with this.
Oh, yeah, man. Me and my wife, we have a foundation a year ago, pretty much to give kids like an equal opportunity. You know, some kids don't have the same resources, you know, money or hookups, whatever, whatever it may be and just kinda to level the playing field, so all kids get the same opportunity to display their talents, whatever they can do. We have a music camp, a smart music camp and you never know, you know, people might you might have to find the next Jay-Z or something. Right. You know, but you'll never know unless kids get those opportunities. So we wanna make sure all kids have like equal free opportunity, man.
That's great stuff. That's amazing. Now, who inspired you as a player when you when you obviously you're growing up in the game?
Brian Dawkins.
Okay. Beast. Um, we got some quick fire questions. I'm just gonna roll through these questions. All right. What's your go-to pump up music? One song that you might put on before you uh, before you play a game? Is there one song?
Right now, I'm gonna say 'Believe Me', Drake and Lil Wayne.
Okay. Just to clarify, that's 'Believe Me', Drake and Lil Wayne, not 'Believe', Justin Bieber. Just to clarify. If you had to choose another sport to play for professionally, what would it be?
Hockey.
Hockey, of course. I'm a I'm a big, I like I like hockey, it's great, it's great.
I'm going hockey. I'm going hockey. I love hockey, man.
Yeah. Um, what's your biggest guilty pleasure?
I'm going Twix.
Twix. Love them.
Twix bars, Twix bars are good.
Twix bars are good. Yeah. Um, if you could create the Patrick Chung sandwich at Subway, what would be on it? What fillings would be in that?
Buffalo chicken, ranch, lettuce, tomato, peppers. I'm gonna go with banana peppers also.
Okay. I'm down with that. I really respect the amount of thought that you put into that answer. You're serious. That was serious.
Absolutely. Serious about your food.
I like that. Oh, nice. Tell us about smart camp.
Yeah, man, it's a summer music camp for teens, uh, 12 to 15. It started July 7th and you pretty much learn how to how to write music, read music, perform, produce, pretty much everything you can think about with music. So you you go in there, learn that. And then August 17th, all the kids get to perform at the Hard Rock.
So Hard Rock where?
At the Hard Rock in Boston.
In Boston, amazing.
Which will be pretty fun.
So anyone in Boston, go and check this out.
Yeah. Pretty fun. Pretty good stuff.
Patrick, good stuff, man.
Thanks, man. Pleasure.
See you back on the field.
Yeah, man.
Well, I won't personally, obviously, but we will.
