Hey guys, it's Tracy in the Young Hollywood Studio, and I am beyond excited to be sitting with The Matthews on my on the couch at the Young Hollywood Studio.
Hi.
Hi.
Thanks for having us.
I mean, this is like I'm reliving my childhood right now because I was one of those kids who grew up watching Boy Meets World. I pretty much watched every single marathon that still exists today. Isn't it crazy though that the show is like getting more popular? I mean, as the years have gone on. It's been 14 years since that ended.
Yeah.
And people are still obsessed.
Yes. 14 years, and yes, I do think it's crazy that it's only become more popular. I mean, I think when the show ended in 2000, I think it was a moderate success. And now 14 years later, I feel like it's uh with all of the hype and excitement about Girl Meets World, I feel like it's it's had a brand new life.
Cory and Topanga, clearly iconic. I mean, the most iconic, legendary couple, I think. I mean and
Perhaps.
I mean, so now you've got Girl Meets World, which is everyone is super excited. I mean, this is like I feel like it was meant to be because we were like, it makes sense. I mean, you want to know what happened after you guys got married and now you live in New York, and then you have a daughter.
They sure do.
Here she is.
Yep, I'm their daughter.
Oh, you have to I mean this is like you're jumping into the Matthews family. I mean, is it like
It's it's pretty crazy. I mean, seeing them, you know, after watching going back when we booked the series and, you know, seeing all the episodes, seeing them kind of transform into Cory and Topanga, it's it's really cool. And being able to call them my parents is even cooler.
She texts me every now and then when she watches an episode.
Really?
Oh my gosh, I just watched the episode where And I'm like, I don't remember that one.
And a lot of the characters from Boy Meets World are gonna be in the show, is that right?
We love all of our old Boy Meets World cast members and kind of, you know, encourage people to come back. It's been such a a weird déjà vu journey into the past, because it's like I get to work every day and I'm taking notes, and I'm looking at Danielle, and I'm talking to people on one level, and then there's another part of my brain that's like, wait a minute, what what year is it? What time is it? And I'll be like getting yelled at, you know, in a fun way, by our executive producer Michael Jacobs. And I'm talking to Danielle and like, it it's just it's such a you have these like out of body experiences where you're like, What is going on, yeah. And I'm trying to like, you know, I've been I've been listening, I like Third Eye Blind a lot in the 90s, who didn't? And so, as Sometimes I was driving to work this past like season, and I would like put them on and I would just to kind of like emulate the experience of And so I would drive to work listening to Third Eye Blind, see Danielle, and it was 1998 all over again.
I need to know some funny stories of of being on set together. We go way back a little bit and every time I've hung out with you, you are just like the most entertaining, funniest person.
It's definitely the most entertaining person we have on set.
Oh yeah.
And We need to hear some stories.
Well, what what should we tell, Rowan?
There are no good stories cuz I'm too discreet.
Oh.
I'm Juice it. Juice it. Juice it. I don't know why you're here.
He makes up songs, which is really fun. And so.
Yes, in between takes.
In between takes, sometimes when the energy is getting low and Ben wants to bring all of our energy back up, so that we, you know, the show feels like it has a lot of life and energy, Ben will start making up a song about whatever it was we were recently discussing. So if somebody mentioned juicing.
Juicing.
And sometimes then he throws in what ingredients you add to your juice. You yeah, you add kale, you add
Let's let's just hear that song for a second.
It's so not happening, Tracy. I don't even First of all, that's a cast joke, guys. Second of all, I find that anything that you sing just becomes funnier.
It's true.
The whole story is told through your eyes, and what sort of like can you give us examples of sort of what happens in certain episodes? Cuz there's like some crazy stuff, right? I remember there was
We have crazy things.
What's like the craziest scene you guys have done?
Uh well, we did an episode where it was uh Girl Meets 1961. And we actually went back in time and played our great-grandmothers.
We did a lot of time travel episodes. We went back to the 40s, we went back to the 50s.
You also like people dunking their head in food or something.
Yeah. I do a lot of dunking.
A lot of explain that.
Taste in milk into cereal.
Cereal.
In the cake. In the cake. A lot of people going like this. Yes. They have bad neck control. They like head bops. Or falling asleep.
I'm not an animal.
So Cory and Topanga, the relationship, I mean, I feel like it's one of those relationships that everyone aspires to have. It's like, is it attainable, is it not? What do you guys think about that? Cuz you have such an amazing love for each other and that obviously is shown, you know, throughout Boy Meets World and now obviously Girl Meets World.
A Cory and Topanga relationship I think is definitely attainable as long as your goal isn't to have that type of relationship start when it was as young as we were. I mean, I don't think it is realistic.
In the real world.
You just crushed a lot of Go on.
I also don't think it should be important at 12 years old to find your soulmate. There are so many other things in life that are equally as important as finding everlasting love. Um, and that's actually again, one of my favorite things about Girl Meets World, is that whereas Boy Meets World focused a lot on the Cory and Topanga relationship, and over the course of seven years, were we together, were did we break up, the highs and the lows of a love story, the thing about Girl Meets World that's a little bit different and coming from a modern-day female perspective, is that it really does focus on these group of four friends.
Friendship, yeah.
And how close they are as friends, and how important friendship is, maybe more so than how important it is to have that one other person that's is, you know, loyal to you.
There really isn't a a finish line in terms of like when a relationship should start or end or when the marriage. I think when you find someone special in your life, and and you love them, and you you both feel that connection, that that and and it feels right, that's when you get married. I I don't think it's there is a right age. You know, people have asked me a lot in interviews, you know, oh, do you think they got married too young? They got married too young. I think they got married because it was the right thing for the two of them. I don't know if it's necessarily the right thing for everybody, but I also think that that was for for Cory and Topanga, that was the right thing to do. And it's 13 years later they've got this beautiful daughter and I can I can
was not trying to say that that they should not.
No, why don't you say
I was not trying to say that they shouldn't be together. What are you saying to Cory and Topanga? No. All your audience. I will tell
She's saying she don't That should not be your focus. I agree.
Did I say Did I start by saying I agree.
Your daughter needs to step in.
Did I start by saying Break it up. Anyway, wait, finish your point. No, I was just yes, I agree with Ben, of course, it was right for Cory and Topanga, but I am now looking at things so much as that was right for them, exactly like Ben said. It was right for them. That doesn't mean it's right for everybody. That doesn't mean that should be somebody's goal. You also shouldn't feel like a failure if you're not married by 19. I mean, just because you're
You are a relationship expert.
You are 25 or 30 years old and you still haven't found your Cory, that does not mean that all is lost for you. It's there is still there is an everlasting love out there for you even if you didn't meet that person at 12.
Girl Meets World, check it out. I'm super excited. Thank you for having us.
