So happy to have in the Young Hollywood Studios.
Uh you might recognize him as Elijah from the originals and the Vampire Diaries, Daniel Gillies.
Thank you so much for having me.
Thank you.
Yeah, thanks for for dropping by a couple congratulations are in order.
Uh you had a daughter.
did.
Not too long ago.
So congratulations.
You're a new daddy.
You look very well rested.
Oh, really?
That's that's thanks to the lovely Sonia who made me look rested.
That's uh courtesy of eye drops and and makeup.
Well, big ups to eye drops and makeup.
Yes, absolutely.
And then second congratulations.
Uh congratulations on the success of the spin-off.
Oh, thank you very much.
That must be such a relief for you.
Yeah, I mean it's it's strange because you just never know.
um what's gonna happen with the show.
You never know whether or not it's going to take.
Of course we had this immediate sort of uh influence and and uh popularity I guess jumping on the back of the the Vampire Diaries.
You one would hope that you'd sustain that audience.
I think it's just we just feel really incredibly blessed.
He lulls you into a false sense of comradery and kinship, and then he turns on you like a snake.
I fall for it every time and wind up with a dagger in my chest for my trouble.
No more.
I believe that he is approaching some semblance of peace.
Your leadership may in fact be a good thing for her.
Now, sister, please, I ask you, if you cannot support him, then at least do nothing to provoke him.
What's the biggest difference between working on Vampire Diaries and the originals?
That's a really good question.
I'd say
Why, thank you.
Well, I would say the biggest difference um uh is that um it's more like a war.
I I feel like the originals is more like this kind of um jostling for power.
Whereas the um the uh the Vampire Diaries was more about the girl.
You know, it was about it was about these two guys wanting a girl.
It was very simple, very beautiful story.
I love them both for very different reasons.
I think the scope of the originals is much larger.
I'm sorry, Vampire Diaries is just much larger.
I like the direction that Elijah seems to be going, which is he just seems to be coming undone really fast.
And I like that.
I just he's just so much more interesting to me when he's um, when he's blowing up.
For you as an actor, then it must be really, really fun to play.
Because I feel like actors love getting into like the messier sides of the character or the.
Yeah, definitely.
Yeah, he's he's definitely becoming more and more fun.
I mean, it's hard too because, you know, even after we did what did 25 or something with Vampire Diaries and now we've done, you know, 40 of them.
We're still finding the voice and you know, it's the one of the beauties of television with this with the writers and I are still finding out who he is.
Like suddenly I'll read something go, oh, that happened, you know, it's kind of like suddenly a piece of information comes in that's sort of can irbly change everything that you've done, but um, yeah, it's it's exciting.
I'm I'm spoiled.
Before we go, you know, I did read a really interesting part of your story was that you took a pretty long break from acting to do a movie that you you wrote, you directed it all that.
Would you ever do that again?
Yeah, that's all I want to do.
Really?
You don't want to act?
This is the end of Elijah.
What?
I'm, of course, I'm I'm blessed to do this, but if you if you said to me tomorrow, like do I, you know, would you rather be um be making your own movies or doing or doing this, you know, I'd rather be making my own movies.
But I I I feel incredibly blessed and I love the show.
So I mean, there's no way I would I would go anywhere from it.
I'm certainly not ungrateful.
But um if it came to that choice, I would I would choose making my own stuff any day of the week.
Well, hopefully we'll be able to see that.
You will be able to see.
That's that that'll happen.
Sometime in the near future.
If I don't die, that will happen.
Oh my God, you get morbid a little bit.
No, I'm not.
I'm not.
I'm just I'm saying I'm saying that it's going to happen if I'm around.
All right.
Thank you so much for dropping by.
Thank you.
