About this video

The Studio goes a little bit country when Kimberly, Neil, and Reid of The Band Perry drop by to give us a lesson in Southern slang and reveal how they resolve squabbles as a group! They also talk about touring with Rascal Flats (who apparently live up to the first part of their name!), plus we found out how much they know about each other with a little sibling-themed game! Hosted by Jessica Smith.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so I always tell people like just like little southern slang and everything because nobody knows what a mamaw is. Oh, how do you not know? Everybody knows. Come on.

The Band Perry

What is a mamaw? Please tell the world.

The Band Perry

What's your grandmother.

Young Hollywood

Thank you. Thank you.

The Band Perry

Also if you want to say something that's not nice about anyone, you just start it with "God bless them". Or "bless her heart".

Young Hollywood

Yeah, there you go.

The Band Perry

Yeah, she sleeps around but bless her heart. She doesn't mean to. She doesn't mean to. She's not about. That's what my mamaw said. She's like she's had three kids from three different guys. Bless her heart. She don't know no better.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I love it. I love this that language.

The Band Perry

Yeah, we we always threw around the brother man and sister woman but it's like if you're getting mad at dude, listen brother man. You better watch that attitude, you know it's sort of precious. What's funny on Pioneer, we actually wrote a song called Into Time and we basically described what the end of the times look like in the south. And so it's everything from like sweet tea. I know it. And then the Alabama moon fall from the sky.

Young Hollywood

How do you all go on tour and be away from your home? Like how is that?

The Band Perry

You know our tour bus is kind of like our apartment on wheels. And so we feel like no matter where it's parked the wild wild west, the northeast, the Midwest, the south, it's home if we can just get back to our own bunks. We do live in East Tennessee but we kind of say going home is like vacation.

Young Hollywood

No, y'all are out with Rascal Flatts. How is that?

The Band Perry

Uh, they photobomb a whole bunch. So we got to watch out for that. They may be here. We're good. They may be out in my. They may just randomly come up and photobomb.

Young Hollywood

We had a Rascal Flatts suite before doing the interview. So they're not here. But but they're really great guys to be out with. It's called The Live and Loud Tour, which just dawned on me that it was Live and Loud. I've been calling it The Live and Loud. I was like what does that mean? Live is like loud. I love it. But y'all's album name, I think, is so interesting because you definitely have like a rock vibe but then you also have the country. How did you guys come up with that?

The Band Perry

I guess the band Pioneer is its truest essence is us live. The producer who produced Pioneer actually came out and saw a live show of ours. And what he noticed is we have tons of electric guitars, a lot of big drums. Kimberly makes a lot of extra noises when she sings. Yeah. And then So so he really kind of got all that up, put it in a bottle, and shook it up. And Pioneer is kind of what we got out of it.

Young Hollywood

I want to talk about your performance at the ACM's because you guys like completely just rocked the house. Like I was like holy. Like I was in my seat and I'm just like, oh my God, like I kind of want to get up and jive right now.

The Band Perry

We yeah, we called that the most dangerous performance of the night. Um not only did you have pyrotechnics and hairspray, but we actually popped out of the ground in what you call toasters. Toasters are basically like it's at floor level. And then they shoot you up like a toaster. I mean we got our inner poptart on. You know, in real time and so we did like a dry run before cameras. And Reed fell. Neil's toaster didn't elevate. So it's like I'm so glad that we did a trial run right before showtime. Once it was time to be live on camera we were like, oh it's party time. We got this now.

Young Hollywood

I would have been petrified to be that like half toast or like halfway in the middle and you're like

The Band Perry

Oh, it was a small hole too, which was kind of kind of scary because it was like only 30 inches, which is a lot smaller than real life.

Young Hollywood

So y'all are nominated for a Teen Choice. Are you guys excited about it?

The Band Perry

We are. Unfortunately we can't vote for it cuz we're not teens. And our grandmother can't either. She tried but she didn't. Well, our grandmother actually shot her name is Betty Lou. And she shot a commercial to get out the vote. And I'm not gonna like give too many spoilers but she actually ended up in a cop car. Yes. Yes, and please yes go vote vote vote.

Young Hollywood

No, I love Betty Lou already. I'm her biggest fan by eight and bees. I love that. But y'all can go and vote on Teen Choice Awards.

The Band Perry

Yes, Teen Choice Awards dot com.

Young Hollywood

Now when I'm not saying y'all do have disagreements but because you are a family, do y'all's parents ever kind of have to like intervene? Do they kind of like mediate the situation?

The Band Perry

I do feel like we have perpetual Peter Pan Syndrome. I mean if we all three have an opposing opinion, meaning Reed is very loud about his. I'm held in on mine. And Neil has his opinion. Sometimes we'll bring them in as tiebreakers. Yeah, mediators. And like, how was like mom says it's you. Well, our is the middle child. Reed is the middle child. Well, and it's supposed to work as a democracy, you know, three votes wins either that or, you know, he who screams the loudest. But yeah, get out. You know what's interesting though, most people think Kimberly is the big bossy sister just because she is the oldest of the three of us. But it's not true. As we were making the our new album, Reed stepped up as the bossy one. Yeah. That's how that happened. Which means Neil's next. Yeah. Get ready.

Young Hollywood

I want to play a little sibling game.

The Band Perry

Oh boy. We're very competitive. Does one of us win or do we all get to win? Oh, I wouldn't even know. We'll have to see what the prize is.

Young Hollywood

It's kind of like how well do you know your siblings, okay? So what would Neil never leave home leave home without?

The Band Perry

Um every gadget he owns but specifically his iPad. You can't leave can't do without it. Regular sized iPad and the mini. I have the mini, I have the regular and then I bring my computer and my iPhone. Yeah. I know I'm like Apple. Hello.

Young Hollywood

Neil, what are Kimberly's bad habits on tour?

The Band Perry

Okay, her bad habits are having way too many pet peeves. Like she has so many pet peeves. In the morning if anyone's to slurp their coffee, Kimberly is all over that. So of course he does it on purpose. So of course I do it on purpose. And then if somebody spells definitely wrong. She like what how do they spell it? D E F I N A T Is that it? No, it's with an A and not an I. So her bad habits are too many pet peeves. Yes.

Young Hollywood

What would be Reed's biggest pet peeve?

The Band Perry

He just really always has a different opinion. Not yours. No, that is our pet peeve about you but I think that you yeah, I think that's a screening. But he's got this other thing that Kimberly and I call wearing out the wear down. Again this goes to Yeah. That'd be our pet peeve where if he has an opinion, he just keeps repeating it over and over until we finally agree just cuz we're worn out. I have pre and politics.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. I just want to thank you guys so much for stopping by and I feel a little bit at home. Y'all have made my week cuz you're from Tennessee. All right. I love it. I want to see you. God bless your heart.
