Hey guys, Nicki Novak here for Young Hollywood at the Universal backlot. You are in for a treat. We are here to interview Vera Farmiga. And where better to chat with her than at the original Bates Motel where they shot the film, Psycho. I am here with Vera Farmiga. We just interviewed your sister at South by Southwest.

Vera Farmiga

Oh, you did. She was so cute because we were telling her she had to go visit the Bates Motel that was there. And then I saw in the Twitter and then I saw you retweeted that. Yes. I saw that. I saw that, the monkey.

Young Hollywood

Do you guys watch the show together? Cuz I saw

Vera Farmiga

We watched it. She caught up last night in bed. We were at the hotel. She was mooching off my room service. So in a hotel and watching Bates Motel. So. Yeah. Adorable.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. And we just interviewed Freddy at our studio. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body. In life, does he?

Vera Farmiga

No. He's a heart on two feet.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, he really is. That's a great description. So, I just read an article. I think you and one of the writers of the show were interviewing each other. Okay. And you were talking about how Norman sort of runs away in this past episode. And you said you had a friend that when he comes home from work every night, sits in front of the steering wheel and grabs the steering wheel for an hour to decompress before he goes home to his family and that's the way he copes. Yes. Do you have a decompression ritual? A coping mechanism.

Vera Farmiga

Um, do you know I don't time out? That's my problem. And then I implode and then I explode. But I don't really. No, you know I do. I do. Lately it's my it's my guitar. I have an electrical guitar and a massive amp and I plug it in and I wail on it. And I just play heavy metal. That's sounds

Young Hollywood

Really?

Vera Farmiga

Yes, I do.

Young Hollywood

I wouldn't have thought that. I would have thought classical or something really elegant.

Vera Farmiga

I do. I've been there, done that. I'm on to Slipknot now. Yeah. I love it.

Young Hollywood

Do you think that's a result of the show maybe? Do they sort of go hand in hand?

Vera Farmiga

I certainly picked up the guitar as a result of the show. And actually the scenes got cut out. The scenes never made it in the in the episode, episode 6. There was a bar scene where Norman just takes off and decides to have a drink at a bar and it's open mic night and I was actually supposed to play.

Young Hollywood

Oh, really?

Vera Farmiga

Like I did. We filmed the whole thing. I don't know if I'll ever be on.

Young Hollywood

Your actual playing would be awesome if it were on the show. This is the original location of where they shot.

Vera Farmiga

No, no, this is my first time here. And we saw there's a scary child in the window and we thought it was real.

Young Hollywood

It's cool that this is your first time here. I would have thought you were.

Vera Farmiga

Yeah, well, yeah, it's the exact replica of our set in Vancouver. It's weird. It's slightly the there's tonal is different. It's like tan in ours it's dark gray.

Young Hollywood

Um I was reading your Twitter. You get some strange fan requests. And I don't know if it's a result of the nature of the show. Someone asked you to talk to their cat, which you did, you responded. Somebody asked you if their car was cool. And I think did you respond with a picture of your car? Was that your car?

Vera Farmiga

It was my 40th gift from my husband. I don't sorry.

Young Hollywood

Are you just You don't have to justify a car. That was a sick car.

Vera Farmiga

I know. I'm I'm totally justifying. I'm apologizing for it. I'm apologizing for it. Oh yeah. My fondest memories as a kid in 1984 were taking, you know, in Miami Beach with my with my granny, taking Polaroid pictures of my brother Victor with salamanders in front of Corvettes.

Young Hollywood

Was this the granny that you said in your sort of use as inspiration for the character? Okay.

Vera Farmiga

Yes. Yes. Yes. Oh, she's tall.

Young Hollywood

You read the whole article?

Vera Farmiga

I did read the whole article. Yes. Yeah. Oh, that's great. Yeah. Two spicy. Very feisty. She just passed away. She did. Yeah, during an episode of the show where actually I had to like talk about my my mom's funeral. So it was very very interesting that that aligned but um yeah, no feisty woman.

Young Hollywood

Oh wow. Have you had sort of a fan request or a fan encounter that it's been sort of the wildest?

Vera Farmiga

You know, you occasionally you see you receive a bouquet of black roses. I don't know how it gets to your address. It's creepy. I didn't even know you could actually order black roses.

Young Hollywood

I think for 9. 99 you can get anybody's address online.

Vera Farmiga

I know. I know. No, they were black. Like they were they were spawned to be black. They weren't like spray painted black.

Young Hollywood

Okay, I want you to define a word for me. Lascivious?

Vera Farmiga

Lascivious? Lascivious? What is that?

Young Hollywood

They were asking me in one word to describe the season. It's a way of saying a bit naughty, frisky. I asked Freddy. The naughtier it gets. And you guys have such a rapport obviously now. Do you sort of see that and go, yes. Go deeper, go deeper, go deeper. Like get get more naughty, more naughty. Do you as an actress?

Vera Farmiga

Oh, we well, yeah, we've got to top we okay, we we have to reach a sort of inevitable demise. As far as we come, we still have to go a certain distance. And um and it just requires a lot of like him and I in headlocks and bearing down and brutality with each other. Give me the I think it's a lot of us. Sure. I cannot believe you did this for me. You realize how much this car meant to me. It's a car. I'm a servant. That is so nice. Why did you do it? I don't know. I just um I can't stand the thought of you being sad about it. I could do something or fix it or whatever that means. There's a couple of episodes that are coming out. It's going to be mind-blowing on the on the flip side of that, these characters are extremely close, uncomfortably close. So we may pound on each other but also there's so much love and joy there and giddiness and and so that also requires a lot of tickling.

Young Hollywood

I was not expecting for you to say that. Oh my gosh, I like I actually like that. No one's actually eaten with the Young Hollywood mic before. That's that's kind of great. Um and then last but not least, peep hole. If you could spy on anyone. Anyone? And sort of check out their life and get a little glimpse into their life, who would it be?

Vera Farmiga

I'm not going to say. I'm not going to I'm not going to say who I really want to peep on. I just have too much dignity. And I don't want to like creep that person out. I really don't.

Young Hollywood

Is it an actor?

Vera Farmiga

No.

Young Hollywood

P. M. A.?

Vera Farmiga

No.

Young Hollywood

Politician?

Vera Farmiga

Sorry. I can't tell you. But it but it is so someone very alluring. But I'm not going to tell you who it is. Oh, it's so lame. I know. But I don't want him them

Young Hollywood

Can we can we cut and then you'll tell me? We're on

Vera Farmiga

You know, I could. There's a red light is still on.
