It's an old building because they haven't touched it since the 50s. I think they're trying to make things get really romantic with the light situation. I don't know what they're doing. I didn't pay anybody to do that. And I didn't cue that. I'm serious.

Young Hollywood

Welcome to Young Hollywood. Kinsey here with Young Hollywood. We are taking you behind the scenes of Paper Magazine shoot with Wizards of Waverly Place star Jake T. Austin. Little disclaimer action. We're currently at Hemingway's Lounge in Hollywood. Super old authentic building. And unfortunately, during our interview, we had to play a little game of hide and seek in the dark. Tell me about this building. It's amazing.

Jake T. Austin

This building is really historical, really classic. You know, this is this is where they all came. Everyone, you know, this is this is what This is basically party central of Hemingway's Lounge. You know, we got a bar right here. And the electricity keeps going out on us, though.

It's an old building because they haven't touched it since the 50s. I think they're trying to make things get really romantic with the light situation. I don't know what they're doing. I didn't pay anybody to do that. And I didn't cue that. I'm serious. I swear.

Young Hollywood

Awesome. You guys are nominated for an Emmy and you're nominated for an Alma award. Do you have a pair of lucky socks?

Jake T. Austin

pair of lucky I'm actually not wearing socks right now. It's funny you ask.

Young Hollywood

Well, there you go.

Jake T. Austin

The answer's no. No, no I don't. Uh, we've been really fortunate just over the last couple of years with the success of the show and uh, knowing that this will probably be the last year it's nominated for anything. Yeah. Uh, no it's just going to make it really special going to the event and uh, getting to see everyone involved again, you know.

Young Hollywood

Did you have any rituals during Wizards or any any kind of acting projects?

Jake T. Austin

Rituals? Well like before we would start taping the episode, like basically that night we all like huddle in a group and uh, just kind of like do a chant or say a prayer.

Young Hollywood

Can you tell me why you were in Bulgaria?

Jake T. Austin

I was in there um, basically there for No. uh, Tom and Huck, which is uh, basically a recent adaptation of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Fun. And it's with uh, Joel Courtney, who's in Super 8.

Young Hollywood

So you didn't have to have any crazy costumes. This is like

Jake T. Austin

No, no crazy costumes cuz I wore the same thing practically every day. And those characters are kind of mischievous. Are you um? Huck had a slingshot. Wow. Yeah. I had like a secret weapon in the movie and I used the slingshot basically to just take people out.

Young Hollywood

What's coming up? We've got New Year's Eve coming up. Is that a love story?

Jake T. Austin

Um, that's it's a sequel or or kind of a a follow-up to Valentine's Day, which is more of a romantic comedy but I think New Year's Eve is taking its own direction or its own genre. Uh-huh. And uh I work with some really key people. Um I think we had we had Abigail Breslin and Zac Efron was in the film, like Robert De Niro, and all these guys that, you know, are so huge.

Young Hollywood

This is a must-see film.

Jake T. Austin

Yeah, they're so huge. So, I I just want to see what it looks like on the screen. Right, you know.

Young Hollywood

What's more intimidating, being on the big screen or like print modeling?

Jake T. Austin

Oh, it's two different worlds but you know, it's just awkward standing to take pictures in front of like 50 people. Yeah. I don't know. Both are both are pretty awkward. Both, you know, demand an ability to just block everything out. Right.

Young Hollywood

Do you do you like watching your own movies? Do you like watching yourself on television?

Jake T. Austin

No, I I try not to just because uh, you know, you you start to get really judgmental.

On Set

23, Chris. Circuit 23. But the lights have been going out on a daily basis here. All right. Now they're back on. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

So you're kind of a jet setter. You're bicoastal. You live in LA and New York. What's your

Jake T. Austin

I No, I live in New York.

Young Hollywood

Oh, do you? And you're just back and forth quite a bit?

Jake T. Austin

Uh, yeah. I've had to be in LA um, probably more than often over the last four years just on different stuff I was working on, but I'm primarily based out of New York.

On Set

23.

Young Hollywood

What's your favorite thing about New York City?

Jake T. Austin

Between like the pizzerias, people and, you know, my family being there, of course. Um, I guess it's just the culture. Right. And how you can go uh to so many different worlds, you know, in the 22 uh mile basis, you know, you can go to Puerto Rico if you go uptown, you know. Uh-huh. Uh, go to Little Italy if you go downtown. So.

Young Hollywood

Um, what's your what's on your iPod right now? What's your favorite song?

Jake T. Austin

Oh god. I got I have Lil Wayne's new album, Carter IV. Yeah. Carter IV uh Fish Fry's my favorite probably.

Young Hollywood

And your ringtone? And all my friends' iPods.

Jake T. Austin

My ringtone? Uh-huh. It's like a generic uh xylophone ringtone. It's on the iPhone. If you have the iPhone, you know what I'm talking about.

Young Hollywood

Thank you so much for talking to Young Hollywood. We can't wait to see all your amazing films that are coming out and to purchase Paper Magazine with your glorious face graced across it.
