Hey guys, Barouk here with Young Hollywood, giving you an all access pass and chatting with comedian Russell Peters before his sold out show here at the Barclays Center in New York.
Russell, we're sitting here at the Barclay Center.
We're just the two of us.
It is, we are here, uh, it is vacant at the moment.
The excitement is starting to build.
Just the two of us.
We can perform here if I try.
Just the two of us.
Just the two of us.
One of these got those little emo kids with skinny jeans and and a neck tattoo that says, "Life is difficult."
But tomorrow, it will not be just the two of us.
There'll be many more people here.
There'll actually be 10,000 people here.
10,000 plus.
I'm thinking probably around 12.
12,000.
Give or take.
By the way, your cameraman's sweating like a hooker in church right now.
Are you intimidated by the fact that there are going to be 10 to 12,000 people here tomorrow watching you and you'll be under the spotlight?
I'm excited by that, actually.
Do you have a little pre-show ritual to get yourself psyched up before you go out in front of all those people?
Before I go on, I I talk to my father, who who passed away a year and a half ago.
I have a little word with him and I uh, and then I get these goosebumps.
And he just pushes you out on stage.
He basically shoves me out there and goes, "Now do what you came here to do."
Obviously, I was a driving.
Now, I am not driving.
You are the global ambassador from Canada.
You also happen to be Canadian.
Which works out well.
Who's funnier, Canadians or Americans?
I think, uh, Americans are more successful and Canadians are just naturally funnier.
Because we're outsiders.
When you're an outsider, you gain perspective better.
And you see what's funny.
Americans, you are in the mix.
So it's harder for you to gain perspective because you're in it.
But being Canadian, we're your neighbor.
We're your hat.
We're looking down and going, "Huh, look what they're doing."
Big hat.
It's a big hat.
We're a gigantic, second largest hat in the world.
Pakistan and India were one country for millions of years.
Millions.
Millions of years.
So you basically own the outsider status as a Canadian.
Yeah, we're kind of like the outsiders to everything, though, you know.
We're the.
We're the butt of a lot of jokes.
Yeah, we're the butt of a lot of jokes.
We don't mind.
You own it.
Yeah, it's one of those things, really.
Yeah, it's really not that bad.
There's nothing too bad you can say about Canada.
One, Your mother and I held hands.
Then nine months later, ta-da.
You do manage to offend every ethnic group under the sun, and yet you manage to fill stadiums around the world.
How is that possible?
Why are people buying tickets when you're offending them?
Because I'm not offending them.
The only people getting offended are the people who I'm not talking about.
So they they're left out.
Yeah, they're like, "Hey, what about us?
We're not good enough to be made fun of."
The I think the people that come to see me are excited that somebody noticed they're different.
In a positive way.
They're relevant.
It's like Sesame Street.
I am somewhat of a Snuffleupagus in the game.
You've heard about me, but very rarely have you seen me.
And now that Obama's president again, Sesame Street is safe.
Russell, I want to be funnier.
Um, oh, good luck with that.
I thought I was your your your mentee.
My mentee?
Yeah, your your apprentice.
You're my tormentor.
Let's just get started.
Three steps to be funnier.
Number one, be funny.
Number two, relax and be funny.
Number three, relax, be funny, and be confident.
You're my role model, Russell.
Well, I think you need better role models.
Well, And you can find those at a different website.
Well, Russell, thank you very much.
Thank you, Barouk.
