"The Simpsons" Move In To Universal Studios Hollywood

Can I stand in the middle? This never happens in Hollywood. Hey guys, Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood at Universal Studios Hollywood. Look, it's The Simpsons. Springfield has come to town. They are officially open. You know, I interview a lot of people. I don't get starstruck. There's something about voice actors to me. That is such a unique, yes, such a unique talent.

You know, actually I get that from a lot of people. I think it's that anonymity factor.

This is exciting. It is extraordinary. The way they put that together, that little explosion, the whole thing. Yeah, no, the whole thing. I'm wondering, does that like happen every day? The fireworks and stuff, or is that just for us because we're awesome?

I mean they don't tell you. Heck no. I didn't even I built a world until, you know, five days ago. And when people find out and they say, Hi, I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell are you? They're like, what?

I didn't even have to ask you to do it. On a night like this, you do it, right? Shameless self-promotion. Hi, Christie. Oh, let me straighten your bow tie. Oh, that's better. I'm gonna go have a burger, okay? Cool? Are you excited? Oh, I don't know what to choose. I don't know what to choose. Which one should I choose? The Krusty Burger. Doing it. See ya. Oh yeah. Go. So tell me how the show has changed over the past, you know, 26 seasons.

You know, I would say the major change was that in the very, very beginning, we had a directive from our executive producer that said, The Simpsons will not do anything that real people can't do. So you couldn't drive an RV off the cliff and everybody survives. Then with the show like just kept going, season 10, they're like, oh my God, oh my God, we might as well take advantage of being a cartoon. Now we drive the RV off the cliff and everybody survives all the time. So.

Is it more fun that way?

Um, you know, I love the character-driven scripts. I like the stuff that's a little, that's closer to reality. Yardley, Dan, Julie and I when we go out in public and Hank, you know, can all just be ourselves and We'll go in there and mess with people. Yeah, we mess with them big time. I want a better table. Can you get me a table? Like I want to be able to see everybody. And let me see the manager right now. You know, that kind of stuff.

When did you first learn that you had a gift for voices? Like how old were you?

By the time I was 16. It was right about that time that I would, I competed on the speech team and it's fun. And I ended up doing lots of children's stories and I would change my voice and the judges would say, you have a unique voice, you should do cartoons. But this was in Ohio and it's not exactly where they make animations. Springfield, Ohio. it would have been. But it's kind of that comment, I never would have thought of that had I not learned how to do public speaking.

Yeah.

Have you had one since or besides Meryl, who stands out?

Yeah, you know, Anne Hathaway actually kind of stands out. That little gal, I'm telling you, she was amazing. First of all, she was so thrilled to be there, but not intimidated by us. And that it can be kind of intimidating to to walk into a room, there's like 100 people in the room and a lot of writers, there they're assistants, a lot of guests. A lot of times we'll have um, make a wish will be there with a with a little kid, you know, that that's his his dream to to meet and come to the Simpsons. Anne Hathaway popped in there. She was so prepared and she was funny, she enjoyed what she did. She sang. She had her character sang in the show. She was this princess. Oh my God, she was amazing. We've had, she's been on a couple of times. I was flown to New York to work with Dustin Hoffman in season two. That was a huge, huge deal. I mean, look, it was a big deal to meet Mick Jagger. I think that I was way more impressed to meet him than he was to miss to meet me. I'll just leave it at that.

The day that you too came. That would have been mine. That would have been mine. I remember that and I was like, oh my God. Oh my God. That was like, are you kidding me?
