Hey, what's up guys? Nicole here for Young Hollywood and I hear there's some super humans around here. Let's go find them. Hanging out with me, Vanessa Hudgens, aka Emily Lock. How are you?
I'm good.
Congratulations on the show. It's DC's first comedy. So I have to ask like that's probably so special right? To be a part of this.
Yeah, I mean like the thing that I love so much is like there's so much of the same stuff out there that when you have something original it's like a breath of fresh air.
Sitting here with me right now Danny Pudi who plays Teddy. Hello. Hi. Oh. Over here. Sorry. Alan Tudyk here with me who plays Van Wayne.
What about the girls? You just said guys. What? You said what's up guys? What about all the girls? Fellows, ladies, what's up? Alan Tudyk here. Hello. Sorry.
You keep me on my toes, correcting me on my job. It's fine. Cameras are rolling. Oh good. Good. Thank you for being here with me today.
Thank you.
With me right now, Christina Kirk who plays Jackie. Hello. Hello. Hello. How are you?
I'm good, how are you?
I'm good. You said such a like sexy hello.
I don't know, I was trying to say hello in the voice of my character but I don't even think that was my character. Jackie. Wasn't me and it wasn't my character.
Who was it? Who was it?
It's just so fun like the DC universe, there's so many stones to turn over and I think that we're like exploring a whole new side of that universe that hasn't been explored before.
For the people that can't see, I kind of feel like I'm in the show Powerless right now because there's some stunts happening and just like some loud noises here. A table just went down.
We're practicing. Out there is where it's not safe. We're safe in here. Uh with the yellow pillows. Yellow pillows is sort of our like, you know, chill area where we go to sort of like let ideas ruminate. Yes.
Creator on the show. And that's where they go to do like stunts and stuff, which I'll be doing tomorrow. It's kind of scary to watch what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. And if they're falling, look out. Oh. We're in trouble.
It's exciting to do something that feels new and different, you know? I think that you that the world of DC comics and the workplace comedy don't usually intersect, so it's fun that we get this opportunity. What comes out of marrying these two different things?
Alan, we're in your office right now. This is so cool.
Yes, this is my uh, my fake office or it's Van Van Wayne's office, my character's office. Right now it's disheveled. Uh, It's a little messy. It is very messy. These are all of all of Van Wayne's childhood toys that have been moved in.
What are you saying? This is this is uh
Yeah, this is always there. Um It says a lot about my character that he loves himself so much he has a poster of himself.
What would you choose as your super power?
Uh, I would pick teleportation. Just because
That's funny. Why? Because I wanted you to teleport us to every single room. Ah. Yes. You didn't know though that I actually have a special power of teleportation. So we're going to use it maybe together and you're going to show us around the set, right? Beautiful. All right. Let's go. You lead the way. So, that was the lab that we were just in and leaving now. We have inspirational quotes on our floors to inspire everyone who works here. Work hard. Make it happen. Yes. That's so Emily, but also Vanessa, right?
Yeah.
You love positivity and good vibes, Alan.
I do. I do. This morning in my Soul Cycle class my intention was to operate at my full capacity. There's a lot of laughter. Sometimes a little too much laughter. Uh because then this happens. Yeah, it's like is this the diagram? Yeah, this is the diagram. Cuz they'll go action and this continues. Uh and then it's like And then we do our job, but then after cut it's right back to that and then there's all the people. Oh wow, that that's riveting. Yep.
A big premise of the show is that you don't have to be a superhero to have powers. And Emily's character really believes that. And I think a lot of the comedy in every single episode comes from her truly believing that and having to like start over on page one, getting trying to convince the rest of us. Right.
So you actually grew up loving comic books, right?
I did. Yeah, I'm a boy grown up in the 80s. It's like Batman and, you know, the DC comics were very, you know, important to me. It was like that was my costume of choice every Halloween. And still as time went on, like I still think about like Tim Burton's Batman. That's my like favorite Batman. Movie soundtrack is amazing.
Uh Sing something for me. Go.
Uh, Batman. Vicky Vale. Ooh. That's great. It's Prince. Mm. I like the second part of that song when he like Prince breaks it down a little bit. Yeah. Like I'm just going to dance to it while you google it. Vicky Vale. Batman.
In the show, you guys kind of wanted to do like a fantasy league, right? You guys are all like huddling around. Who would you choose like your superheroes to be part of like Vanessa's team if you had to do a draft?
I would just want Catwoman. Just Catwoman. Just Catwoman. I just like loved Tim Burton's Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is like my favorite thing ever. So, I just want her behind me. Always. And she can be like the bad guy for me.
So you play Van Wayne's assistant. Yes. Right? You're kind of like over it a lot of the time.
Yeah. I would say I've been with the company for a long time. I probably started out like Vanessa's character, bright eyed, idealistic, hoping to accomplish great things. And now it's 20 years later and I'm sort of over it all. Been there, done that. Yes. Just looking for an easy paycheck.
So, your character, Van Wayne
Yes.
The cousin of Batman.
Yes.
Kind of been called, I've heard like blissfully stupid. I actually think that Van Wayne's quite charming. Oh. Oh. Yeah, I know. Wow, that's nice. That's nice. I'm kind of embarrassed for saying that. But
You have a big heart for the fools of this world. Cuz he, he's I don't know if he's blissfully ignorant. I would call him arrogantly ignorant, you know, and authoritatively even uh, stupid.
And then I'm going to put you on the spot like as you go. Can you do something like polka for us really fast?
Sure. This is a shout out to Pam Richard, Penny Misha, Priscilla Ludic, Shy Town. And I'm still trying to smile at the same time. Oh right. Thank you, Danny. One, two, three. Thank you, Jenny. Wow. I'm a hero. I'm a hero. So much fun. Thank you so much. You were wonderful. Thank you for having us. Thank you very much.
Um, but yeah, this is our office that is currently being taken up by a lot of equipment, but um, all of the cubicles are there. And um, right now we are walking over to my office, which is um, very temporary. Um, you'll see what I mean when the, when you see the episode. But it's really cute. I want to steal all the plants and a couple of the pictures. Um, and yeah. It's adorable. Like I want this. So cute. Simple, cute. I want to steal all of the plants.
How's that rug coming along, buddy? Look at this. Oh, okay, bye, Alan. And there we go.
