Nicki Novak here for the Young Hollywood Network. Class is in session. We are on the set of G B F. Got that? Pop quiz coming. Here with Paul Iacono. You've taken me back to high school, Paul.
Back again for me. I just, I can't seem to leave. Here we go.
So where are you going to take me?
Um okay, so we're on the set of GBF, Gay Best Friend, and we are going to go into the wardrobe and hair and makeup department. This is like my my two favorite places, hair and makeup and wardrobe. Right? Should we go?
Me too. Let's do it. Let's do it. All right.
I would love to introduce you to the wonderful costume designer of GBF, Kit Scarbo.
Hi!
This is Young Hollywood.
Hi Young Hollywood.
Kit, I've been seeing a lot of tweets from the castmates. The costuming, let's talk about the prom dresses, all that kind of thing.
Well, I think the world of GBF and the actors themselves are the inspiration because George, the writer, um and our director Darren have done such a phenomenal job of bringing this surreal real world to life. I mean, we pushed things to a sense of ridiculousness and pulled back enough to make it just real enough where you hopefully the viewer will get lost and have as much fun in the costume world of GBF as we did.
So, who got to wear that?
Oh, Paul gets to wear that later. But we have all worn it. Sasha and Andrea posted some great Twitter pictures already. We we did some dance numbers in the panda suit.
Here with Andrea Bowen. Hi! You look great every time I see you.
I'm wearing a different dress. That's right. I know. Shlee wears lots of dresses. One of the Shlee.
So tell me about Shlee.
Okay, I play Shlee Osgood. She goes by Shlee, her name is Ashley, but being called Shlee is about the edgiest thing about her. Okay. Um and she she is the Mormon leader of the school.
I am here with Brock Harris. Star of GBF. So tell me a little bit, who are you in this film in this high school?
Yeah, I'm basically your uh your your your classic bully. I play Hamilton and I'm a I'm a homophobic jock.
Here with Molly Tarlov. Talking shopping. First of all, your hair is just fantastic. How does this have to fit with your character? Tell me about your character.
Yes, my character is she's Sophie and she's kind of a voice of reason, true friend of the movie. Um she's pretty anti at this point in her high school life, which some of us may have been in our high school lives.
I am here with Taylor Frey, who just prior to rolling told me what?
We look alike. Yeah, I feel like you could be my sister.
Let's let's mug. Are we siblings that get along?
We're we have a weird relationship. We do.
Okay, describe our relationship. Slightly. What? Taylor's a shy boy, as you can tell. So okay, so tell me a little bit about who you play in GBF.
I play Tofer and he is Shlee's boyfriend. They are, yeah, they're the Mormon couple in the school. They bring wholesomeness and good Christian values and some bigotry.
So what would people like if I went back and I asked everybody from your high school to describe you in high school, what would they say?
I think they'd be like, he was weirdo. Cuz I He was the quiet one that lived next door, never quite said anything and then boom he went crazy.
Well, I followed two older brothers in high school who, you know, played all the sports and were kind of like the dudes that everybody liked. And, you know, I was definitely more into the arts and I kind of did my own thing. Didn't even go to many school dances and stuff. So people would probably call me a loser as well. And who's laughing now in the big Hollywood movie, right?
Well, stay tuned.
I don't know. I was very rebellious. I gotten in lots of trouble.
So when you say rebellious, tell me tell me the most rebellious thing that you did that you can own up to on camera.
Whoa. That's the tricky part. Wow. I can tell you that I rode my motorcycle through the school.
So what's the motorcycle? Okay. I'm okay. I'm not doing it.
It was a mini bike. It was It was a tricycle. Well no, it was a motorcycle but it was a very small motorcycle. I wore I wore my shirt over my head kinda like turban style so nobody would recognize me. I also did it at this an old school that I used to go to cuz I had like already got moved on from that level.
As older. Yeah. How would you describe yourself back in high school? Were you like the class clown?
Well, here's the thing. I was class clown, class president, JV cheerleader, prom king and queen cuz I was the only person in my school cuz I was tutored.
Okay, I was going to say. Is nobody else in your school? I was like, what is happening? Did you kill everybody?
Um yeah, no, I was tutored for for all of my junior high and my high school on Desperate Housewives set.
Yes. So you grew up. You grew up on that show. This is such a different environment. I'm sure.
Yeah, no one I've said I've said this is kind of like college for me because um this is the first time I've done uh anything a project where it's all people my own age. Although, I have a funny story about Terri Hatcher because she had told me when it was time for my prom in my in my real life and I was 17 or 18 and I was like talking about all my friends were going to prom and I was helping them pick out dresses and she was like, are you bummed? And I was like, I mean, it's a tradeoff and I'm really lucky. On Desperate Housewives. And her response was, well, just pretend the Emmys are your prom. She was like, but just better dresses and a lot of famous people. And I was like, all right.
How would people describe you? Class clown, the brains. Um, you know, I I had a bunch of different stuff going on, but I did, you know, I was like wearing kinda Dickies, did have some pink hair sometimes, but I was still keeping it like up-to-date, I guess you would say. But yeah, I did a lot of theater.
So here we are in the makeup and hair department. Everyone's just busy getting glamorized and going from the beasts that we come in as to the gorgeous creatures you now see before you. All right. So I'm here with my co-star Michael J. Willett. Michael, how are you doing?
Doing super well, thank you.
Super well. What has been one of your favorite onset like practical jokes or like a funny goof up or something. Just speaking into my bosom cuz this is a pen and the microphone's really there. Um, how about the underwear thing? We're not going to talk about the underwear thing. There's one day where we spent like the entire day in our in our underwear. We were fine. Like it was everyone else that was kind of like, maybe you should put some clothes on. They're just not a free spirit as we are, apparently.
Definitely not.
Like to introduce you to Socha Maqmore. She is a superstar in the making. Literally. She plays Caprice in the movie. Caprice. Butler. Bold. What was your favorite scene to shoot so far?
My favorite scene to shoot so far was probably at the prom.
This is Jeremy aka Ginger Bear.
Hello, I'm the makeup artist on this shoot.
What has been the um most awkward makeup thing that you've had to do on this film? Have you had to like cover up anyone's like butt hair or like bleach. Like what what's what's the worst thing you've had to do? What is all going on?
Bleach my
Yeah, I feel bad for whoever has that occupation. So was there one memory one sort of thing that you got to live out on set that you never got to do in high school?
Many.
Such as?
Uh a couple I can't really tell you about, but one I'm about to shoot, which is a slow motion walk. I never got to walk down the high school halls in slow motion with music playing and stuff. So.
Do you think that you could outdo your castmates' slow motion walk?
I'm going to have to say absolutely.
