Can we trade outfits? You've said, you've said, yeah, she's like, I know you've said before you have a shopping addiction.
I do. I have a problem.
Is this, did you, me too. What are your places?
No, anything I wear on the carpet is like loaned, you know, I don't buy it. And then this Should I buy this one? This, well, where else could I wear this besides Comic-Con? This is going back to the designer.
So I know you're a huge fan of the franchise before this. How is this sort of knowing what you know about the film? How is it a fresh take on on sort of what we've seen before?
You know, I think something that people are complaining about which I think is going to be one of the strong points of the movie is how different the turtles look. They're not as friendly and cute anymore. Um but it's so much more realistic what we did, what what we did like I had anything to do with it, what ILM has done has created what would realistically be a mutant turtle if they were exposed to some sort of toxic chemical. So they're a little scarier looking, they're a little ugly, um but they're a lot stronger and um the action is believable because of that. You know.
No, no, no. Whoa, whoa, chill. It's just a mask. See? Don't freak out. Right?
Can you a fan of the film or the franchise before? I mean, what made you want to direct this? Cause you've directed a lot in the last couple years.
I was. I was a big fan when I was a kid in South Africa. And I thought again like I saw what Mike had done with Transformers and really admired how he had taken a property that I loved and turned it into sort of a spectacle and I I wanted to do the same with this. I think they're going to enjoy the fact that we have stayed true to who the characters are, who the turtles are. Really, you know, the story is of course about the turtles, about these four brothers. And that's kind of at the heart of it. It's really nice and uh I think that the fans will enjoy the fact that we've really kind of paid a lot of respect to that. We go back to the original origin story and we needed to put together to complete sort of the origin and how they came to be and their first adventure against the Shredder. So that was great that Jonathan brought me in right away and said, look, I want to recapture the moment you guys did in the original comic book. We wanted to tell the best story we can and and still make it fun like we did in the original books and that was a huge compliment. I really enjoyed that.
I know you had a crush on the original one. Would you have a crush on this one if it was a little uglier, a little scarier?
Um, well, you know, I worked with the actors. Um, so I would say on set, I might have been a Raphael fan but definitely in the movie um Mikey steals the show. So.
I know that was your first real crush. Who was your first non-turtle real crush when you were a teen?
I'm you know, I'm going to have to go Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
Classic. You can't you can't mess up with that one.
No, that was that was my jam.
That's a good one. Congrats on the movie.
Thank you so much. Thank you. You are shiny and amazing too.
