Young Hollywood

Hey guys, Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood at San Diego Comic-Con. Who better to be at Comic-Con with than Rob Lowe? Great to see you.

Rob Lowe

Great to see you.

Young Hollywood

And I am loving the Ghostbusters. And you were just telling me before we started rolling that there was a great photo from you back in the day.

Rob Lowe

Yeah. wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt. I kind of knew that. I'm wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt out on a date cuz that's, you know, what one would wear. Right?

Young Hollywood

Sure. But wait, cuz now it's classic. I, yes. But they're bringing it back. I mean, but was it cool then or was it like what was the intent of it on the day?

Rob Lowe

It's the logo. That look, let's face it. That's one of the great logos is. in in in history and I'm not being deadly serious.

Young Hollywood

Let's talk 80s. Yeah. Because Moonbeam Moonbeam City.

Rob Lowe

Moonbeam City. Always a fire burning. Always a ghetto blaster. Always. My home. Moonbeam City is like, I'd never done a cartoon before, sort of 1980s look at the future. So what we would have thought the future would have been in 1984, it's like pastels and shoulder pads and horrible hairdos.

Young Hollywood

I think the hairdos from the 80s were great. I'm sorry. I'm still kind of sporting an 80s hairdo.

Rob Lowe

They were so great, they would have come back.

Young Hollywood

They're going to come back. I swear they are. I want to see you with a craw. You familiar with a craw?

Rob Lowe

No, what's a craw?

Young Hollywood

The craw is, I think it came originally out of Salt Lake City area of country and it's frosted and then this.

Rob Lowe

Oh yeah. You mean like a vanilla ice situation?

Young Hollywood

It's it's a girl thing.

Rob Lowe

Oh, it's a girl thing. Yes. Oh yeah. With a hairspray thing. Yeah. Yeah. Craw. Yeah, that's unattractive.

Young Hollywood

80s? Yeah. But there's some good like big hair situation happening in the 80s.

Rob Lowe

There is. And we've got all the all the big hair you would want in Moonbeam for sure. So yeah, I'm going to quote Comedy Central. They say it's an absurd take on the gritty sex drenched 1980s crime dramas. How much more of a tease do you need to watch a show than that? It's pretty great. and it's really funny and so wrong. Like you go. So wrong that it's right and so right that it's wrong.

Young Hollywood

Yes, it is. How is this sort of a fresh take on anything we've sort of seen before on TV either either in the crime drama era or in the or in the cartoon?

Rob Lowe

Well, I mean, I think if you imagine Miami Vice as a as a just raunchy, I can't believe they went there. Comedy, that's what you're you're looking at. And we have such great, I have such great cast members. Will Forte. Will Forte, Elizabeth Banks. Kate Mara. Dazzle Novak, Moonbeam City Police. I hope your brain's hungry. It's having bullets for dinner.

Young Hollywood

Excuse me, now can we talk about the fact that my name is Nikki Novak? You have played, this is the second time you've played a Novak. Am I correct?

Rob Lowe

You're right. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Oh, wow. Dazzle Novak. Thank you very much for that. Dazzle Novak. I thought I was Dazzle Novak.

Rob Lowe

You're dazzling. I'm just Dazzle.

Young Hollywood

So can we come up with a great word like a great title for you? What aren't you on a I was thinking like Leadfoot Lowe or like, what would you be if you had sort of an alter ego?

Rob Lowe

Leadfoot Lowe is pretty, Arlo. You know, like like like.

Young Hollywood

You know, like a rapper? You could throw it out of a beat or two?

Rob Lowe

Like, I could throw it out a beat, can't you? I mean, don't you think hip, when you think of me, you think of hip hop, right?

Young Hollywood

I do. For sure.

Rob Lowe

I know I do. Yeah. Can you or no? I bet you can. My kids could. My kid, my my kids could do it. I'm old. Get off my lawn.

Young Hollywood

Well, but what would your name be? What would your alter ego?

Rob Lowe

Hollywood. I love it. Hollywood. We say it like that. Hollywood. Yeah. That's that's lame. That's it's pretty dooshy, I think, a little bit even.

Young Hollywood

You think? But yeah. Hollywood makes it cool. Speaking of the 80s, one thing that was better in the 80s, since the show takes place in the 80s, you just had the 30th anniversary for St. Elmo's Fire. This is all 80s, all 80s theme. So one thing that was better than the 80s than it is now.

Rob Lowe

Oh, MTV. Videos. MTV was great in the 80s. Yeah. Unwatchable now.

Young Hollywood

It true.

Rob Lowe

Well, I just, I'm just a truth machine. You don't watch Teen Wolf? You ask me, you're going to you're going to hear it.

Young Hollywood

You are, aren't you? I love that about you. Tell me about you. Your Instagram, I love it.

Rob Lowe

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

One of my favorite accounts to follow.

Rob Lowe

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Because you do throw it back. And you also, you know, you know, you share your life. People get to see sort of a glimpse into

Rob Lowe

I love, I love my Instagram account and and my Twitter account. I thought I would hate them when I started them.

Young Hollywood

I think we all do, right?

Rob Lowe

Yeah, and I thought it was like, I just thought it was like yet another newfangled trendy BS thing. And I've come to love it because in all seriousness, it it it lets me interact with fans who've been with me and a part of my life for over way over 30 years. Yeah. And so we've had a 30-year conversation that now I can really talk to them and share what I'm really interested in without a third parties being involved. And and them with me. I'll get I'll get stuff on Twitter about what they like, what they don't like. And, you know, and I really I take that seriously and I I I love it. It's it's the perfect mix of like legitimately fulfilling for me and also just really fun.

Young Hollywood

Because we are at Comic-Con, I have to ask you what would be your spirit superhero? Like a spirit animal, what would be a superhero? Who do you most identify with?

Rob Lowe

Oh man. Listen, you got to go with Luke Skywalker. Why wouldn't you ever?

Young Hollywood

I mean, you'd be a great Luke Skywalker. Right?

Rob Lowe

I was on the set of Star Wars.

Young Hollywood

You were?

Rob Lowe

I was. I saw them film the Death Star battle.

Young Hollywood

Wait, the new, the new ones. The Star Wars. The one that everybody, well look, everybody's going to the panel. We should just be talking to you to get spoilers. Rob Lowe here to see you.

Rob Lowe

I have, I wrote about it in my my first book and and stories I only tell my friends. I wrote about going and seeing R2D2 and and seeing the Bantha suit and them showing us a rough cut of a sizzle reel where they had the lightsabers but they weren't the glowing part hadn't been put in yet. Un-unreal.

Young Hollywood

Was it? Are you a fan? Are you like, I'm America. I'm a person, I'm living. I'm a person. I'm a Star Wars. This could be like a really random question because you are on Instagram and all and all that stuff. Do you have a favorite emoji?

Rob Lowe

You know what? I had a really great conversation with a guy about the rules, the Roberts Rules of Order of an emoji. And like what you do and what you don't do. And like there's a whole new language. And by the way, I'm obsessed with this now.

Young Hollywood

You are.

Rob Lowe

But now because I realize I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm very emoji phobic.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Um, but is it okay for guys to emoji, do you think?

Rob Lowe

Oh, here's the thing is when here's why emoji, when I want to respond but I don't really want to respond with anything too specific and I want to be done with it. That's when where you emoji.

Young Hollywood

Thank you. I totally can relate to that one. Right. And last but not least, because you are playing an undercover cop in the series. Do you think you're perceptive? Are you a perceptive person? Would you actually make a good detective?

Rob Lowe

I'm perceptive. I think I understand people and I can read a room. I would be a horrible detective because my sense of direction and spatial work is bad. Like I would come into a crime scene and not be able to find my way out. I'm I'm not good with with like I won't be able to find my way out of this room.

Young Hollywood

Okay, look at me. Don't look in that direction. What color is the carpet on the floor?

Rob Lowe

Uh, it's like dark bluish.

Young Hollywood

Orange. Dark blue right here. I was using my peripheral vision. I was cheating. Are my eyelashes real or fake?

Rob Lowe

They're real. You think I'm going to say you have fake eyelashes? I would never. I because I know people, see. I know that the right thing to say for people is

Young Hollywood

What would you emoji back to me if I asked you that question?

Rob Lowe

I would just give you an eyelash back. Or a thumbs up. There you go. Because it'd be like, what does that mean? Yeah. Emojis are when you don't want people to know what you're actually thinking.

Young Hollywood

This is this is your nickname's going to be Keep People Guessing Lowe.

Rob Lowe

Oh, okay. I like it. I love it.

Young Hollywood

Thank you so much for the chat.

Rob Lowe

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Great to see you as always.

Rob Lowe

You too.
