Hey guys, Niki Novak here for Young Hollywood at San Diego Comic-Con with Scott Aukerman.

Scott Aukerman

Great to see you.

Young Hollywood

Nice to see you again.

Scott Aukerman

This is a bit of a Oh, you almost knocked your hat off.

Young Hollywood

I'm so excited.

Scott Aukerman

A true Ghostbuster wouldn't do that.

Young Hollywood

True. I'd be a little more badass than that. We're kind of color coordinated.

Scott Aukerman

We are sort of. I mean, my pants sort of look as tan as your legs.

Young Hollywood

Wait, do I look tan?

Scott Aukerman

You do look tan.

Young Hollywood

I do. That was the goal.

Scott Aukerman

Okay, congrats. You did it.

Young Hollywood

Congratulations. I thought it was dark enough. I think I'm anorexic. I'm Am I looking like the color of these pillows?

Scott Aukerman

What do you do to get tan?

Young Hollywood

So, here's what you do, Scott. You go into a booth.

Scott Aukerman

No, no thanks.

Young Hollywood

With uh a person

Scott Aukerman

With a person?

Young Hollywood

Of the same sex. Okay. Um they have a host. Oh, almost saw you.

Scott Aukerman

A host?

Young Hollywood

You have a thong and you do all these motions. I mean, you can join in with me if you like.

Scott Aukerman

Okay, yeah, I'd love to.

Young Hollywood

So here's what you do when you get spray tan. First, you start out like this and you put your one leg out which I can't do in these shorts. One leg out so they can spray your inner thigh. Okay, so this one right here. So they spray up and down your inner thigh. Then you turn the other one out. And then they sort of do this. Okay, they do that. Okay, very good. Well, sort of. And then um basically then you go like this and they spray your inner of your arms and you turn around, they do the other thing and you do you kind of end up going like this.

Scott Aukerman

Really?

Young Hollywood

So you're just making a bunch of poses because they're trying to get every crevice. Every crevice. Right. And they do get every crevice.

Scott Aukerman

What what is the mixture that they're spraying on you?

Young Hollywood

I don't know. I'm sure it's some sort of chemical that's worse for you than the sun. Okay, so this is fake. This is In other words, this is There's nothing about me that is real right now. The hair, the lashes, none of it is real.

Scott Aukerman

Okay. What do you look like as a real person, I wonder? I wonder if you'll ever show anyone?

Young Hollywood

No. Okay, yeah. No. Anyway, we're not here to talk about me.

Scott Aukerman

Oh, really? This is like having you on my show. I like it.

Young Hollywood

It kind of is. I wouldn't mind being on your show. Come on. Come on by. But I feel like you've had so many great guests. I mean, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was a great guest. Yeah. How the heck would I ever fit into that equation that you'd be like, whoa. Yeah. We got.

Scott Aukerman

Well, do you do you uh are you just a host or do you act as well?

Young Hollywood

Um I can do whatever you want me to do if it gets me on your show. Okay. Sure, you can be on. Sure I act. Uh I act every day.

Scott Aukerman

Do Oh, this is acting too. Really? All this is fake and your personality. I'm a total nightmare.

Young Hollywood

Who you really actually like? Oh my gosh. So you've got the new seasons coming out.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, new season. Comedy Bang Bang to uh to it's out now tonight. Uh but if you're watching this in the future, it has been on.

Young Hollywood

That's right. It has been on. If you're watching it in the past, it will be on.

Scott Aukerman

Yes. I'm just taking this quiz to see which Friends character I am.

Young Hollywood

Oh, who'd you get? Oh, no. Let me guess. Uh you're a rule-breaker but you get things done. You are fiercely loyal. You're attractive but kind of in a fun way. You're an Albert, right?

Scott Aukerman

Nope, I got Jessica.

Young Hollywood

You can't be Jessica.

Scott Aukerman

I got Jessica. We can both be Jessica.

Young Hollywood

God, you're being such a Marvin right now.

Scott Aukerman

Whoa, that was a real Teresa thing to say.

Young Hollywood

Could you be any more Fred right now?

Scott Aukerman

Oh, hell no. You take that back. You you you Joey.

Young Hollywood

Joey. Is that a character from Friends? I don't know. I've never even seen one episode.

Scott Aukerman

Well, tell you what, you can be Joey then.

Young Hollywood

How you doing? Great guests this year again.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, they're pretty amazing. We have Michael Cera on the first one and uh James Marsden and Brie Larson.

Young Hollywood

Oh, you just had him on Young Hollywood. He's a delight. He's a delightful guy.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, he is, isn't he? He's really he's really talented. He's very funny in the episode. Don't let those good looks fool you. He's a funny.

Young Hollywood

His brother told him he had to do the show.

Scott Aukerman

Oh, really? That was very nice of his brother. So thank you to his brother. Shout out to James Marsden's brother.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. He said, if you ever get invited to do a show called Comedy Bang Bang, you have to do it. Then he got the call. Are you serious? So he didn't put they didn't put the feelers out. Your people.

Scott Aukerman

We put feelers out and he was like, oh, yeah, I want to do this because my brother told me to do it. Right. Um so, I thought it was really genius the way you guys sort of did like your press release because basically every guest that's coming on the show this season which I didn't know llamas I thought all llamas looked the same.

Young Hollywood

No, no, no, Niki. Niki, that is the wisdom of a fool. That's the wisdom of a spray tanner. No, all llamas are are like snowflakes or like uh snowman. They're all different. They're all different. For example, Michael Cera. I don't know if young you can zoom into that.

Scott Aukerman

Mhm.

Young Hollywood

Is actually a quite a great looking llama.

Scott Aukerman

Yes, we we we put every couch guest we we have their llama Doppelgänger here. Yeah. So uh we found llamas that look exactly like them.

Young Hollywood

You really did. Yeah. Um here's James.

Scott Aukerman

There's James. He oh, rough around the edges as a llama. Yeah, he's a little better looking as a human. I would say.

Young Hollywood

He is. He kind of is. Yeah. Oh, no that's my selfie.

Scott Aukerman

That's your selfie. Okay. All right. Um personally, I'm more interested in nose. So

Young Hollywood

Yeah, that's a deep dark hole, you know, you don't want to go down. Have you looked yourself up? I mean, I feel like you'd be fair game to see yourself as a llama.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, you know, I've Googled llama that looks like Scott Aukerman over and over and over and exactly zero images come up.

Young Hollywood

Really?

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, it's one of those rare Google image searches that has zero finds in it.

Young Hollywood

Is it true that uh Paul Reubens was your favorite like it was sort of like the Holy Grail of of guests?

Scott Aukerman

I was trying to get Paul Reubens on the podcast version of Comedy Bang Bang for a long time cuz I I saw Pee-wee's Big Adventure just really changed my life. I love that. I I don't know what you're doing. But uh

Young Hollywood

That was a really I didn't do my vocal warm-up. That is not even close to a Pee-wee Herman.

Scott Aukerman

Well, do it. I I don't do impressions. There is actually a picture of me at 15 years old dressed up like Pee-wee Herman.

Young Hollywood

Are you serious?

Scott Aukerman

On the Internet out there. I did it for a homecoming uh dance. Or not dance, a homecoming game halftime show. So, there's a picture of me with like a giant ear and I'm in the suit and I'm dressed like Pee-wee Herman.

Young Hollywood

That that's a whole stance. You just you just caught an essence of that.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Um and it sounded nothing like what you just did. But yeah, Pee-wee was great. He he did the podcast first and I had a really cool interview with him and then he came on the TV show and did like an awesome episode where he wrote all new Pee-wee bits like the ones he used to do on Letterman and stuff. It was great.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. I'm so excited for the film. Are you going to talk to him? Are you?

Scott Aukerman

No.

Young Hollywood

What film? His new movie? I didn't know.

Scott Aukerman

What are you doing with your life that you don't know about this? Uh yeah, he has a new uh a new movie coming out in March on Netflix.

Young Hollywood

Is it a Pee-wee thing?

Scott Aukerman

Yeah. New Pee-wee movie.

Young Hollywood

Joe how do you say Mangianello?

Scott Aukerman

Mangianello.

Young Hollywood

Joe Mangia, pecs and abs. Mangianello or ello? I don't know that's the other part of it. What's his name? Walk around pronouncing your name constantly so we know how to do it. So we know. You know? So somebody doesn't screw it up at the Emmys or something.

Scott Aukerman

Every every five minutes I say Scott Aukerman so anyone in the vicinity knows exactly how to pronounce my name.

Young Hollywood

And our say Niki Novak.

Scott Aukerman

Mhm. Yeah. So it's just like

Young Hollywood

What is your real name, Niki Novak? Is it really? You're you're like an undercover. You could double as like a detective. What is your real name?

Scott Aukerman

Niki Novak. Is it really?

Young Hollywood

It's actually Niki No Chance.

Scott Aukerman

Novak. No Chance? What is it?

Young Hollywood

That's my name. Do you have a nickname?

Scott Aukerman

I don't have it. Well, uh the Auc was a nickname for a little while. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Ever awkward? Uh am I ever awkward? Or Is that ever your nickname?

Scott Aukerman

So the Auc. The Auc a little while. Yeah. That was my ATM code for a while. No longer.

Young Hollywood

I'm so excited for a second. I was going to like rob you. Hey, Scott. Because um you did the llama look-alike thing, I'm going back. What is your spirit animal?

Scott Aukerman

Uh you know, when I sit and meditate and I imagine my soul coming out of my body and and transmogrifying into animal shape. Um I I think it's the Geico lizard.

Young Hollywood

Do you save people money?

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, all the time. If they don't spend money on my shows and which most don't. So

Young Hollywood

What is your budget on your show for asking?

Scott Aukerman

The budget on the show, it's not very high. I think uh uh you know, I I believe the budget 20 years ago when I was on Mr. Show. Yeah. Was higher for that show than it was for my show now.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Taxidermy is expensive though.

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, it is. And we and we weirdly, we we rent those.

Young Hollywood

Do you really?

Scott Aukerman

Yeah, we rent them and they And they want them back.

Young Hollywood

Who want them back?

Scott Aukerman

They do want them back. That's the thing. They do want them back. So we had to swap some in and out uh every once in a while because the the contract runs out. The other weird part about renting on the set is we rented a couch for the pilot uh the blue couch that we have. We rented it and then we gave it back because we didn't know if the show was going to get made. We gave it back to the storage house and then Mad Men put a five-year contract on it. And so we had to build the couch exactly like the one that we had rented because it had to match the pilot. So we had that couch was specially built.

Young Hollywood

Do you want me to rob Mad Men for you seeing as I rob guests? I mean, I could. They don't need it anymore. The show's over.

Scott Aukerman

That's the thing. Yeah. I mean, now we can. That's We're now we can rent the couch again, I would imagine. Although now because we own this couch, we have all the guests sign the back of the couch. Nothing on the back of this one. You could be the first. You could be the first.

Young Hollywood

Oh, I love that. Um before I let you go, I want to I want to mention because we're at Comic-Con that you are a Marvel writer.

Scott Aukerman

Yes, I wrote a couple of comics recently. So, I wrote a story in Deadpool 250 and uh I wrote a a story that just came out last week uh in Secret Wars Journal number three.

Young Hollywood

Now, which one was Hulk's psychiatrist?

Scott Aukerman

That was Secret Wars Journal. Yeah. So it was uh I don't know if you know anything about comics. Um I mean, you're dressed like a Ghostbuster. So, you seem like a real nerd.

Young Hollywood

I know zero. I know zero.

Scott Aukerman

Um yeah, so it's like a world where everyone is a Hulk instead of just Bruce Banner who is the Hulk uh becoming the Hulk. It's uh the gamma bomb uh exploded above the uh uh uh the entire city and so everyone in the city is a Hulk. And so it's a psychiatrist who is trying to deal with that.

Young Hollywood

Wow, that's deep.

Scott Aukerman

Mhm. Yeah, very deep.

Young Hollywood

Thanks again. Great to see you. Congrats on the new season.

Scott Aukerman

Thanks. Have me on the show, darn it.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, definitely. We'll have you on our show. Yeah, I mean uh what do you want to do on it? That was like a yeah, yeah, yeah. Hit me up.
