Hey guys, Nicki Novak here for Young Hollywood at San Diego Comic Con in the Nickelodeon suite with Chris Parnell.

Young Hollywood

Great to see you.

Chris Parnell

Thanks for coming in.

Young Hollywood

Thanks for having me.

Young Hollywood

So, how many times at Comic Con?

Chris Parnell

This is number six.

Young Hollywood

Number six.

Chris Parnell

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Six times a charm?

Chris Parnell

Every time's a charm, Nikki, every time.

Young Hollywood

Is it?

Chris Parnell

Yeah.

Chris Parnell

Rick and Morty, they've done an interesting thing where they, they really haven't done any callbacks to season one.

Chris Parnell

I think because Dan realized with with community that when they put all these secret things in there that that people were reluctant to start watching at season two because they were missing out on all the references.

Chris Parnell

So, I think he perhaps wisely in fact, you know, you can come into season two very clean without having without knowing season one.

Chris Parnell

But we sort of pick up from where we left off at the end of season one where time got frozen by Rick.

Chris Parnell

Time gets unfrozen, then we see what happens from there.

Young Hollywood

How do you think it's a fresh take on anything that we've seen before, sort of in that genre?

Chris Parnell

Wow, I I mean it's so out there in the sense uh from a scientific sort of point of view that Rick can travel to any dimension, you know, any universe and so the possibilities are completely limitless when you sort of set that up as your as your starting point that he has a gun that will open a portal to another universe.

Chris Parnell

They can really come up with anything and and have it be justified, you know.

Young Hollywood

So when are you going in time if you're going anywhere?

Chris Parnell

Any to any time.

Young Hollywood

Where would I go?

Chris Parnell

Yeah.

Chris Parnell

Wow.

Chris Parnell

I I'd probably go back to, you know, the early eighties or late seventies and try to give myself some advice as a kid.

Young Hollywood

Oh, what advice would you give yourself?

Chris Parnell

Just give myself some advice about girls, you know, just just to be more confident.

Young Hollywood

Do you want to give advice to the Young Hollywood audience that because you have that wisdom now?

Chris Parnell

Well, you got to, you know, it's important to love yourself and to believe in yourself.

Chris Parnell

You got to be bold.

Chris Parnell

You got to, you got to be brave, and you got to be willing to fail.

Young Hollywood

And this is stuff you've never heard before.

Chris Parnell

Never.

Young Hollywood

Nobody's ever said these words.

Young Hollywood

Well, let me ask you then, is it good to put it out there or do you think it's good to keep it, you know, hold it back, keep the mystery, not give them too much, play a little hard to get?

Chris Parnell

Well, you know, you've got to take every situation on a case by case basis.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Young Hollywood

So if you were dealing with me, Right.

Young Hollywood

What are you thinking?

Chris Parnell

Well, I'm not getting a particular vibe from you other than just professional.

Chris Parnell

So, I would just keep it professional.

Young Hollywood

That's a really good answer.

Young Hollywood

I was keeping it in the professional realm.

Chris Parnell

Clearly.

Young Hollywood

No, clearly you were.

Chris Parnell

Yeah.

Chris Parnell

Clearly clearly you were.

Chris Parnell

Wife, who might watch at home.

Young Hollywood

Um, I really wasn't intending it to be that.

Chris Parnell

No, I get people come on to me all the time, Nikki.

Chris Parnell

It's cool.

Chris Parnell

I expect it.

Chris Parnell

I totally expect it.

Chris Parnell

It's hard because as a as sort of a sex star, I mean as a as somebody who's who's one of the competitors for for sexiest man alive and those kind of things.

Chris Parnell

Best looking, all those all those things that I always get, you know, I'm always up there.

Chris Parnell

You just give it to Ryan Gosling for, you know, charity kind of thing.

Chris Parnell

You know, it's it's me and Ryan Gosling and Chris Hemsworth and it's It's nice company to be in.

Young Hollywood

It's tough being a superhero, isn't it?

Chris Parnell

Well, I'm not a superhero, but you know.

Young Hollywood

Which one do you most identify with?

Young Hollywood

Which superhero?

Young Hollywood

You can be the superhero.

Young Hollywood

You are the superhero.

Chris Parnell

This is becoming, yeah.

Young Hollywood

You are the superhero.

Young Hollywood

Life lessons with Chris Parnell, chapter one.

Young Hollywood

Do you have a favorite impression that you've done sort of over the years?

Chris Parnell

I mean, I'm really not a great impressionist.

Chris Parnell

I had to kind of learn to do it when I got on SNL.

Chris Parnell

But the only one that came into the show with was Tom Brokaw.

Young Hollywood

So that was the audition one that you chose?

Chris Parnell

Well, you're supposed to do three like original characters and three impressions.

Chris Parnell

I did four characters and two impressions.

Chris Parnell

Uh the other was the second one.

Chris Parnell

It was a is MTV VJ named Jesse back from the middle nineties or something like eighties.

Young Hollywood

nineties.

Young Hollywood

Get a cheer from the crowd again on that one.

Young Hollywood

You got quite an audience over here.

Young Hollywood

You've got a hecklers.

Chris Parnell

It was.

Chris Parnell

The great thing about the audition was you do it on home base, on the stage there where the host does the monologue.

Chris Parnell

And Lauren and whatever writers and producers were there are seated sort of away in the dark.

Chris Parnell

And then there's just one camera there.

Chris Parnell

So, it felt like just doing your own little one-person show.

Chris Parnell

As opposed to being in a in somebody's office in Burbank, five, you know, three feet away from them.

Young Hollywood

Everybody out there who's ever auditioned knows exactly what you're talking about right now.

Young Hollywood

You know.

Young Hollywood

I want to talk about Archer as well.

Young Hollywood

It has such a huge cult following.

Young Hollywood

People who know it obsess with it.

Young Hollywood

It's like their favorite show.

Young Hollywood

Strangest fan encounter you've had.

Chris Parnell

The last Comic Con, we did a thing, our cast did a thing where we met like some people dressed up as our characters and did like a photo op with them.

Chris Parnell

You know, there's a guy dressed up as Cyril, and and he was there for two years.

Chris Parnell

Very nice guy.

Chris Parnell

He had made a sort of a prop of a swan, a foil swan, which was from one of the episodes.

Chris Parnell

And and gave it to me.

Young Hollywood

And do you have it on your mantel?

Chris Parnell

I don't.

Young Hollywood

Do you treasure it?

Chris Parnell

No.

Chris Parnell

No.

Chris Parnell

I mean, I try not to collect a lot of stuff.

Young Hollywood

A lot of foil?

Chris Parnell

Yeah, you know.

Chris Parnell

And it's better to recycle it anyway.

Chris Parnell

I mean, I appreciated it.

Chris Parnell

I photographed it and I honored it.

Young Hollywood

So, you may have used it, you know, to contain your, you know, leftovers?

Chris Parnell

You don't know where it's been, Nikki.

Chris Parnell

It's cool.

Chris Parnell

I expect it.

Chris Parnell

I totally expect it.

Young Hollywood

Being that you're doing a lot of voicing, a lot of voice acting, any tips?

Chris Parnell

It's hard.

Chris Parnell

It's you got to do a lot of auditions to start booking things.

Chris Parnell

And even then, you know, you might do 200 auditions and then book one thing.

Chris Parnell

I don't know, it helps for me, I find my like my acting background helps that I, you know, I like went to theater school.

Chris Parnell

And somebody's laughing.

Chris Parnell

I know, I shouldn't consider myself as an actor.

Chris Parnell

that.

Young Hollywood

It's fair.

Young Hollywood

It's fair.

Chris Parnell

I'm not.

Chris Parnell

Most people don't think of me as a great actor, but I do consider myself an actor on whatever level.

Chris Parnell

You're you're free to laugh.

Chris Parnell

You're right to laugh.

Chris Parnell

I take no offense at that.

Chris Parnell

Um, actor.
