Nicky Novack here for Young Hollywood. We are behind the scenes at The Sing-Off. We're here to chat with the judges and the hosts. I'm here with Jewel, it's great to see you.
Thank you, nice to be here.
Okay, I'm here with Sean Stockman. We're here with Ben Folds, who looks really, really dapper.
Well, thank you.
Here with Nick Lachey. Nick, guess what?
What?
You look frightful all of a sudden. Frightful. Is that a word?
It starts with guess what, I'm a little. I introduced 98 Degrees years ago on a stage in Miami.
Really? For what?
I don't even remember. It was for a radio thing or something like that. Hansen was there, if that tells you. Like I'm I'm completely dating myself.
So we made quite an impact on you. You don't even remember what it was for. Congratulations, Season 4 of the show. For people who don't, because you are the host of the show, for people who don't know or haven't seen previous seasons, just a little gist.
Well, we're the only singing competition on television, which is all A Cappella music, meaning it has no instrumentation at all. Every song you hear, every noise you hear, uh, comes from from the human voice, which is uh, which is a pretty cool thing. And so you're you're seeing some incredibly talented singers and groups uh, up here making ridiculous music with nothing but their voices.
So, wait a second. So you're texting your What are you texting a jeweler? Like what do you say? Like what goes on behind the scenes? I don't have a personal jeweler. I just want to know.
Well, here's the thing. I'm I'm big on watches. I'm I'm a big watch guy. And uh he he kind of helps me curate. I'm I'm yes, I'm going to use that word.
I love that you did that with quotes.
Yeah, yes, yeah, yes. He helps me uh curate my watch collection. And check this out. I do this like once every couple years. It's it's using my jaw as a passive resonator. And and then I'm just making this click here. And then when you put it to your jaw, it amplifies it. That's how the voice works.
I'm I'm almost I think I'm speechless for the first time at Young Hollywood. I think on this show, I think what's nice is the judges are true musicians and really passionate and it just seems like from speaking with all of you there's such a camaraderie amongst there's sort of no divas and even the contestants. There's sort of that not that sort of cutthroat competition that you've seen on maybe other shows.
Yeah, everybody here's because they love music. Um, I don't think Ben, Sean, nor I got into music because we wanted to be famous. We got into it because we really loved it. We had a real passion for it. And we did it famous as a side effect. Um, and so none of us are really divas and we're very passionate about music. And we love teaching people about music and what we know about music. But I think what makes the judging easy is that you're judging or listening to commenting on really beautiful music created just with voices, it's really kind of hard not to be a good judge on this show.
That that's the cool thing about our show. Um, everyone, including the host himself, uh, Nick Lachey, we're all musicians. You don't you won't find in any other show. And um, we we know music. It's been our lives. And just to be in the midst of this is really like kid in the candy store for us.
If you guys were to have, because this is The Sing-Off, if the judges were to have a bling-off, who would win?
Oh, that's probably Sean.
No, but you know what though? Jewel is is she's got a little little bling game going on. Yeah, yeah. She's kind of tight with the bling game. Nobody could nobody could compare.
Well, no. But but
Do you have a Super Bowl ring?
No, she doesn't. But um, but I mean, but you know, she she has some real fly bracelets and rings and stuff. You know, you got to check her out. Check her out on the show. Just people
Her fingers. Her fingers and her wrists.
Sean. Hands down.
He gave you some props in that department. He said you had some nice little nice little trinkets.
We like to share jewelry. Like we like to make sure each other notices what we're doing.
Okay, now who would win in a talk-off? Who talks the most of all of you?
I think Sean does.
Um, Ben. Definitely. Uh, I talk a lot. I mean, it's close. I think, you know, like it's about that far off. But go on, Sean.
And last but not least, in a walk-off, who has the best swagger?
Oh my gosh. Dare I say Sean again? Sean is like taking all the awards.
I'll give that to Nick because, you know, when he comes out when he's introduced, he does this thing with the smile. You know, he has this thing going on. The girls love it, so.
Well, I mean, Jewel can walk in shoes that 'Cause she's a musician. And I don't know if it really if if it's really natural for her to wear all this kind of, you know, high-heeled stuff. I'd have to give her a major cat handicap for that. Like she wins just because she's doing it.
I know on the show in past seasons, I don't know if you're doing it this season, that the groups had what they called a signature song. Do you feel like you have a signature song?
Me, personally, or me with my group?
You you with Boyz II Men.
Um, yeah. I mean, we always talk about it. I mean, if if we did a concert and we didn't sing "End of the Road," it'd probably be a riot. So, yeah, we can't we can't do that. You know, it's great to have songs like a song like "I Do," which uh, you know, a lot of people have used as their wedding song. I mean, there's no bigger honor than you can get as a group than than you know, be a part of someone's life.
Every time I ask a a fan, you know, what they feel like my signature song is, it's different. You know, some people say "Intuition," some people say "You Were Meant for Me." It really changes.
Can you teach me how to do like a sound effect or something A Cappella?
Um, let me see. Um, well, do you have any?
I have zero singing skills.
Okay. So, a woman who has no singing skills wants me to show her how to sing.
Well, you can teach me. I'll do it. I'll do a sound effect.
Oh, you'll do a s- Okay, okay. Just go uh, let me see. Can you do that? That's that's good.
Thank you for chatting with us. This was a real pleasure.
Great to see you again.
