Young Hollywood

Hey guys, Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood at the 15th annual Pump Foundation Gala. It's where athletes from some of your favorite sports come together. Oscar, one of the greatest NBA players of all time. Welcome to the Pump Foundation Gala.

Star Athletes

Well, thank you, it's my pleasure to be here.

Young Hollywood

And you're being honored tonight. As it should be.

Star Athletes

Well, I don't know, a lot of players should be honored, but I'm happy about it.

Young Hollywood

Okay, well, the NBA season is starting up soon. What do you miss most about playing?

Star Athletes

I don't know, you know, it's gonna be an interesting year. A lot of players are moving and changing teams, and so we'll see. I mean, you know, the champions are still the Golden State Warriors. They're the champions until they're beaten.

Young Hollywood

What a welcoming, you have every athlete on the planet here, just to welcome you, and they're all dressed up for the occasion.

Star Athletes

Oh, this is always a great event, man. You come around and be around so many special athletes. Uh, you know, I get star-struck at times, you know, just seeing the great players, the different sports here, and it's always a joy for me to come to this event every year.

Young Hollywood

Well, let's talk about you at Dodger Stadium and your first pitch. My friend, what happened there?

Star Athletes

Well, I was a little nervous. Uh, you know, I think you don't realize how far the mound is from the from the from the home plate, and, you know, my old thing was I didn't wanna overthrow it, so I just wanna make sure I got it there. But if I get the opportunity next time, I guarantee a strike.

Young Hollywood

Okay, so how are you gonna prep for the next time, 'cause they'll give you another one.

Star Athletes

I didn't get any practice throws. That's the one thing, you know, a lot of people get practice runs. I haven't thrown a baseball in years, and they just gave me the ball and said, go up and throw it. So, next time, I'm gonna practice.

Star Athletes

My first time was last year, and I didn't really know what to expect. I know the Pumps are just they're well known. Everyone knows them. Um, and I've gotten to know them over the years, but just to come last year, I was like, I was literally in awe. I was like, how do you get this many people in one room, you know, to to show support for you guys? This is incredible. And then I'm just thinking like, they have such a a huge impact in the sports world, in the community. Um, so, just to be here is just I just love showing the support, you know, I love this event, it's great. Um, I don't get to play golf, uh, in the morning. It's it's hard for me with my son and, uh, but but, uh, I wouldn't have missed this for the world, you know, it's my second time in a row. So, it's just it's great. I mean, it's it's a huge turnout every year, it's really special.

Young Hollywood

Aussie, it's an honor to have you next to me, one of the best shortstops in the business.

Star Athletes

Well, thank you very much. You know, it's always great being able to come and support the Pumps. Uh, when Dana and and and Dave call, we come running. I mean, what a great cause. All of you guys are here. Every athlete is here.

Star Athletes

Yeah, it's, uh, it's one of those things that I think that, you know, anytime you talk about cancer, it is something that has touched each and every one of our lives in some way. And anytime that we can contribute to try and help, um, find a cure for this terrible this terrible disease, then then we do it. I'm a cancer survivor myself, throat cancer. Uh, I met Dana at Pump a few years ago and his brother, and we, um, he told me about this charity and this event, and what they do in the name of, uh, Harold and Carol Pump, their parents. Just a great, great gala fundraiser, as you can see. You know, you have, uh, celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment, and they honor, you know, some of the greatest. We've got, uh, Bo and Derek here tonight, and it's, uh, it's exciting. It's spectacular. And it's a great charity.

Young Hollywood

I'm standing next to an NBA champion. How many times over? I mean, to be in your presence. This is great.

Star Athletes

Thank you, Leslie. It's a great to be in your presence tonight.

Young Hollywood

Well, thank you. There are tons of athletes here. How do you think you'd fare in today's game with the young bucks running around?

Star Athletes

Well, I think there's some great players today, but I think I would do quite well. I'd be fine, yeah. There's a lot more shots taken, a lot more rebounds to be had. It'd be a lot more fun to be playing right now. Well, the game has evolved, and certainly, uh, the most important thing is preparing your body and making certain that mentally and physically you're ready to, uh, ready for the challenge. And, um, I certainly would not observe or see anything that would make, uh, or make a significant difference in the way I would play versus, uh, today versus many years ago.

Young Hollywood

There are tons of stellar athletes hanging out tonight. Who was your idol growing up?

Star Athletes

Uh, my idol growing up, of course, was Michael Jordan, but, uh, you know, I've always been a big Bo Jackson fan. I just got wind that he's here, so I'm very excited to meet Bo Jackson. Probably the number one person that I probably ever wanted to meet, that was Michael Jordan. I met him back in like '90-something, early in my career, and, uh, uh, I was very fortunate to become one of the brand Jordan athletes. So, that was a very special moment. Always loved Michael Jordan. Obviously, he's the obvious one. In football, I was a Steve Young fan, Joe Montana, um, Brett Favre. I just more, I didn't really model my game after him. I just always respected his toughness and his competitive nature.

Star Athletes

Well, Jordan's not here. Uh, you know, Walter Payton is passed, and and, you know, Rest In Peace. So, I know his son very well, Jared. Um, but I mean, there's a lot of quarterbacks that I that I've seen. I mean, I work with Matt Leinart. Uh, so we joke, laugh and joke all the time, but there's a lot of great athletes that I'll get a chance to see as the night goes on.

Young Hollywood

Not only do we have killer athletes here at this event, we have the SCP auction house here. And right now, in front of me, is the 1992 Dallas Cowboy Super Bowl Championship ring. And I have the honor of getting to try it on. And if you're wondering how much this costs, $42,500. Okay, I'll marry you. Tons of athletes are walking by me every second. Is there someone you haven't met yet that you might just stop and say, I'd like to meet you and say hi?

Star Athletes

I've never met Bo Jackson. I I'm looking forward to that. Bo Jackson. There it is.

Young Hollywood

What are you gonna say? What would you do?

Star Athletes

Uh, I'm not really gonna say anything. You know, I just the man the man's great. Uh, you know, first first athlete to really play two sports in baseball and football, and just had a dominant career like he did. So, it's great just to meet another person like that.

Young Hollywood

What do you miss most about playing professionally?

Star Athletes

I miss all the pain.

Young Hollywood

I think you're lying.

Star Athletes

No, it's, uh, I loved the action. It was, uh, it was really exciting. I I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and and the competition.

Star Athletes

Well, I don't know if I miss playing in the game. I miss the camaraderie. You miss the guys, you know, um, there's a competitive void in your life once you walk away from the game. But I think we fill that void by doing, um, other things. One of those things is golf.

Star Athletes

Oh, just the competition. Uh, yeah, and I think that that's what really inspired me and drove me, um, beside my my 3D's that I, you know, I try to speak to kids, um, that really got me to where I was on that football field is that desire, dedication, and discipline. And so, um, that was really what motivated me to go out on that football field once I tapped into, uh, my skill set and and my abilities to see what I what I was able to do.

Young Hollywood

How about, "Let's get ready for Young Hollywood!" That's hot.
