with the momentum of your arms, I'm so scared. Sort of pull in and spin.
What's up guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood at Pickwick Ice in Burbank, hanging with the reigning gold medalist ice dancing champion, Meril Davis. Hello. Ready to do a little skating?
Uh, you skate, I watch. Let's go.
You had a little taste of Hollywood being in Dancing with the Stars champion.
I love LA. Every time I come to LA, I feel like it's my second home. I love the vibe here. I love the feeling of creativity you can sort of find everywhere. Everyone's sort of so game to form their own path, which I love about LA.
Got the gold medal. Yeah. You got a silver medal. You got the bronze with the group. That's right. Yeah. Um, two worlds. Two worlds. I think it's six US titles. You got six Grand Prix, five Grand Prix, excuse me. I don't even know. Tell me what you don't have.
Um, a grasp on what I want for the rest of my life. One sort of has this idea that you accomplish your lifelong dream and you accomplish your goals and and that's that's it, right? Like you're just happy for the rest of your life. And I think what's interesting is Charlie and I won the Olympics, which is incredible, but it's interesting to sort of try to figure out what's next after something like that.
Besides ice skating, which is what you do for a living, how do you maintain this perfect physique?
When we were getting ready to compete, a lot of working out, not only skating, but in the gym, three days a week, uh, lots of cardio, weight lifting, abs, things like that. But now, I sort of like a little bit less working out, a little bit less working out, a little bit less working out. So, now it's mainly skating, actually. I do love staying active and I just, I feel like as an athlete, you start to thrive on that feeling of taking care of your your body and and knowing, you know, what you're doing for yourself, and it just makes you feel better.
Do you want to do a little skating? We're going to do a little skating. Okay, how familiar are you with the whole skating thing or how comfortable are you? Watch. She's going backwards. You got it. So, what you want to do is, you want to start with your feet wide, and then with the momentum of your arms,
I'm so scared. Sort of pull in and spin.
Are you okay? Yeah. You okay?
Yeah.
I'm so glad we got the fall on camera. Uh, you know what? It's a rite of passage. I think you did it. We all have to get there at some point. Okay. You want to high kick? That guy's gonna fall. That guy's definitely gonna fall. Do you love being in a nice rink?
I do. It's definitely my comfort zone. I think I feel more comfortable skating than I do walking. You know, when you walk, you have to keep putting in the effort. Whereas when you skate, you can just like sort of glide, which I like.
Why don't you go over this? With one foot, like
Yeah, that's pretty good. It's exactly like that. You just gotta go a tiny bit higher.
Next one. I feel like we're in Rocky and I'm totally Adrian right now. So, ice dancing is one of the four figure skating disciplines. It's a more dramatic, theatrical, sort of emotional, of the four. You own that.
Thank you.
The looks, the drama. But I, I, I love it. I really do. You love to eat, I know that because you can tell again from your body.
Thank you.
And I have to call you out on your Twitter feed. You just posted a picture of this burrito which is the size of my head.
As skaters, we burn so many calories and I don't think I'll always be able to eat the way that I do or as much as I do now, but um, for now, I'm, I'm lucky that I can indulge when I want to.
So, break down your menu cuz I need to know what you eat.
Dessert every night. I'm, I'm a dessert. Every single day. Dessert. I found these like um, chocolate covered honey pieces that are amazing. And a little bit healthier than maybe other options. Breakfast, um, when I'm training, it's usually a couple pieces of like whole grain, nine grain toast with um, almond butter. When I'm in really heavy training, I do green tea instead of coffee just because it sits a little bit better, but I am also chocolate and caffeine addict, so coffee when possible.
Yeah. I agree. If I'm really training hard, I'll do a pretty heavy duty sandwich. I don't want you to get hit there by these skaters going by. I could do that. You probably could do that. That's a triple axle, right? I got that. Exactly. Yeah, no, I'm sure you. You're doing lots of TV now. You got the Colgate series.
That's right. The Colgate skating series. The skating gymnastic show, the Shall We Dance On Ice show, all presented by Colgate. Shall We Dance presented by Paul Mitchell. Yeah, just busy traveling all the time and on the road.
You know what I love about ice skaters, dancers, you get to wear the thick tights that hide things, not that you have anything to hide.
That's so funny that you say that because that was my one thing going into Dancing with the Stars. I just, I didn't, I couldn't wrap my mind around. You're just out there without any coverage. Having an a dress on, having a leotard on and having nothing over your legs, I feel like is it's a little intimidating. Family has been probably one of the most key components to our success. So, Charlie and I were lucky enough to grow up in the Detroit area that is really a figure skating hub. You know, like there's the the world's top coaches in Detroit and so a lot of people have to move across the country or even to a different country to get the coaching that they need. But Charlie and I had it right in our backyards, which is amazing because it meant that we could stay with our families and live with our families and go to high school and do normal things. And luckily enough, our moms traveled with us to every single competition, which is crazy, but they're the best.
I'm not gonna even venture to do what you do. Okay. But give me like a little touch of Merrill Davis. A little touch.
Okay, I'll do a little. I can do that. You can. A couple more lessons and you'll be whipping around this place.
Leave it to the pro. Awesome job. Thank you. You too. Good lesson. He just wiped out. He just, so you're not the only one. Even the best fall down sometimes, right? It's a thing for a reason. And when you fall down, what do you do? You gotta get right back up. Boom.
